George Lucas looked at what R.A. Salvatore had written so far, liked it, and then casually told him to kill Chewie. And in that moment I hated the New Jedi Order.

That's not what happened.

The plan was to kill a main character from the OT. The main candidate was Luke Skywalker. Lucas said **** no, and told them what characters could not be killed. It was decided they'd kill Chewie instead, since he wasn't on the list of characters who could not die.

At least it wasn't as pathetic of a death (well, somewhat) as it could have been. Took a moon falling on him to kill him. Though in the long run was a pointless death.

Sounds baddass.

Because plot armour.

Honestly, the only good thing that came out of the vong stuff was crimson empire (which was part of the lead-in stuff, iirc).

In my opinion the Vong was a total waste of time. It was basically a ''Crap we have run out of ideas'' from the writers I feel. Extra-Galaxtic Invasions are silly, and I think it went against the 'Image' of Star Wars, some crab like race attacking and hating technology, in a Galaxy in which two of the recurring characters are droids.

I am very pleased the Vong are banned from SWRP, and I hope it stays that way.

The Vong series was an unmitigated cluster that introduced a plethora of utterly, mind-numbingly stupid force powers and technologies to the Star Wars universe. It was an utterly ridiculous addition to the EU, and I'm so, so glad it's no longer canon.

The living technology thing? Interesting; not too bad. While at the time I was reading I did like it, the more I think about it the more I realize how the concept comes off as mediocre fan-fiction. Cut off from the Force? Come on, really? Maybe resistant to some Force powers, but even that's pushing it. I'll admit I did think it was kind of neat the Empire and Galactic Republic had to team up at certain points, but overall, it could have been handled much, much better if they didn't want to keep publishing books about fighting the Empire all the time.

Also, a question: am I the only one here who saw all those maps at the start of the NJO books and thought "Why didn't they just make them come from the Unknown Regions?"
