Eriadu City - Eriadu || Zaa Fenn Penthouse

Shere Zaa Fenn made sure to look everyone present in the eyes before he sighed. The last couple of years had been hard on the Zaa Fenn Crime Family, his family. His enforcer, a weequay pirate called Lannoc Zaa Fenn, got himself and his entire crew killed three days ago attempting to hijack a Blackwell freighter on the Hydian Way. They always said that Shere, as a Cathar, had nine lives and in his youth he had bought into it. He escaped the law more times than he could count. SoroSuub transports never saw him coming when he ambushed them on the surface of Sullust. This time, though... him being the fourth boss of the Zaa Fenn in a decade, surrounded by twenty scoundrels barely off their mama's tit. He knew he just had no choice...

"Listen,-" he started in his characteristic hoarse and deep voice, "-I know you are all mourning the loss of our brothers." After all, being part of the Zaa Fenn meant you were family. All of them lost more that just co-workers. They lost brothers. Not everyone understands this distinction and a number of them did betray their families to join another without permission. They were with the Xaa Hafven now, sneaky bastards. But Shere digressed and cast the bitterness from his mind, "I know you have doubts about calling these newcomers family right off the bat." Even worse, but he knew he couldn't say it out loud right now, is that one of these newcomers would immediately assume the mantle of boss. He watched the faces of his brothers and noticed their discontent. None of them know about the offer that they had been made.. the amount of credits that these newcomers put on the table just for membership in a crippled organization. Their combined expertise, reputation and experience eclipsed that of the entire Zaa Fenn and the only reason he could see for them applying for this.. this adoption.. was to get a foot into the Crymorah Syndicate.

One of his scoundrels, the one that had been watching the elevator, suddenly walked into view and nodded in Shere's directions. Right, the aged Cathar rose from his seat, it was time. "You know the names Marissa Hesse and Preef Callo. You know of their reputation and their accomplishments," the murmuring among the scoundrels stopped abruptly. "You can assume the same level of skill from their companions. There's a lot for you all to learn from them." and what of him? What would become of the current boss of the Zaa Fenn? Shere didn't want to think about it.. but he hoped for mercy, at least.

Preef caught himself staring in anticipation at the little elevator light showing its descend. Two weeks ago he had considered retiring, taking up the mantle of Sector Ranger for the Tashtor Sector and living a quiet life on Takodana. Now he was here, on Eriadu, spending a small fortune on nothing else but a membership with a struggling crime family. He liked his chances on being able to blast the entire Zaa Fenn outfit to an untimely demise, but Marissa had explained it well enough. The Crymorah Syndicate was ruled by a commission consisting of the bosses of several crime organizations that all styled themselves as "Crime Families" with strict adoption and inheritance rules.

In terms of 'getting in power' it meant that unlike the Hutt Cartel you didn't have to be a centuries old Hutt. In the Crimson Dawn you needed to be smart, incredibly well-connected in the Core and beat Donatade at her own game. The latter an impossibility on itself. Black Sun required the approval of the Falleen Council and a fierce reputation of being a warlord and the Pyke Syndicate required you to be a Pyke. There weren't many options for a criminal to rise if they weren't some unbeatable prodigy blessed with the Force. To become the crimelord of the Crymorah Syndicate you needed to head the commission of bosses and despite its decade long misfortune, the boss of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family still received invites to commission meetings.

What Preef understood of all of that was that they needed to make Marissa the new boss of the Zaa Fenn and thus a lieutenant of the boss of the Xaa Hafven, who was the boss of bosses. Needless to say, the rodian's right hand rested on his holstered blaster pistol. "So," Preef turned to Marissa, "We just go in and pay them," he shook his head in disbelief. They had worked hard for years to amass their fortune, his retirement fund, and now they were going to give it all to these low-rate scoundrels. "and then you're Marissa Zaa Fenn, boss of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family?" Now he turned away from the elevator to look at the others as if to ask them whether or not they were okay with this.

This thread is where we 'declare' ourselves as being the new Zaa Fenn Crime Family. @Lydeck is present at the other end of the elevator, seeing as he's a Zaa Fenn already.

What have I gotten myself into? The Zaa Fenn crime family wasn't a name Kel was too familiar with. What little he had heard about them indicated that the family was in decline. Can't be worse than my current situation, right? Ever since Kel's own Hutt boss had been blasted to bits during a hostile takeover, the young scoundrel was on his own, and with a ship that needed maintaining. Kel had learned to make do, but not much else. Pretty much like the "family" that he was about to join.

Then why was Kel joining the Zaa Fenn, if it wouldn't make any change? Two reasons: Preef Callo and Marissa Hesse. It was their plan, and the young smuggler was pretty much playing second fiddle. On his own, Kel just tried to survive and rely on random contacts he ran into. Kolran Torgall, his first employer as a freelancer, was preoccupied. When Vako Yizok and Pidge Batana joined Kel aboard the Black Swift, his finances got better, but not by a large margin. Celiana Drayven had seemingly made herself a small fortune and offered generous rewards, but the jobs weren't as frequent. It was no wonder that Kel had been looking for jobs on the side.

Kel met Preef when the Rodian recruited him for a daring mission: a getaway driver for a raid on Sector Ranger Coruscant HQ. Their goal: to liberate another notorious member of the Syndicates, Marissa Hesse. With careful planning and some lucky and unlikely coincidences, the Coruscant job went like clockwork. In addition to Marissa, Peef had also made off with a whole bunch of expensive stuff from the evidence room. Easiest money Kel ever made.

And apparently, Marissa was the brains of the outfit. If Rodian's heist had been so successful, Kel wondered what his human colleague would bring to the table. She brought the whole Zaa Fenn idea. A gamble, sure; but the gambles of those two had paid off in the past. On his own, Kel probably wouldn't have dared to make moves as big as Preef and Marisa. So, he just jumped on the bandwagon in hopes for more easy money.

"Sounds almost too good to be true," the young scoundrel shrugged to Preef's comment. Then again, he didn't know just how much Preef and Marissa had paid to pull that off. Maybe it was the amount of money that made it from "good" to "hey, I'd expect nothing less for that sum". Regardless, Kel brought both his blaster pistols: DL-44 on the hip and the heavy dual-barreled RSKF in a concealed holster under the arm as the ace in the hole. Who knew what the Zaa Fenn would think about the whole deal?

LOCATION: Eriadu, Zaa Fenn Penthouse
STATUS: Attending Meeting

Husk stood amidst a sea of eager youth now slightly outraged by the news addressed by their leader. The mature Bothan served under the Zaa Fenn Family for decades, longer than the majority whom gathered for this meeting. The news wasn't wholly unexpected. The Family had been in slow decline for years now as other, more eager groups climbed the competitive ladder associated with the Five Syndicates and a steady stream of unfortunate events seemingly sealed the Zaa Fenns fate to a backseat of criminal politics. Their decreased popularity had equated to members defecting to rival gangs and the Cathar who currently led the small organization saw potential in the candidates put forth for management. Like most in the Galaxy the concept of change was daunting, but the constant rearrangement of leadership over the last decade had weathered them to such adverse rotation.

While some voiced their concern and protest, the greying Bothan sat at a table enjoying the hot refreshment brewed from fermented beans. This taste was acquired through age and regular visits to various international stalls littering the streets of Eriadu. As the younger members began to overstep their authority Husk placed his weapon, currently configured to the hand blaster setting, on the wooden table top, his deep Bothese language biting through the rising noise "Sida lanul pkoe krif brobder. Barada glecae haagoo". Although he held no high rank within the current Family, he did hold a modicum of respect due to his time served. He slowly stood from his chair, his muscles aching "Bakroe Shere kav wokel hakaycrel hal bernesi den Pan hal boskviv. Ni kav berdi sufik jan sen vali young'uns larnoe nin habard blembrocsin."

His weary gaze scanned those around him and he picked out a few individuals who were unsure of the proposed leadership. Husk himself had full confidence in Sheres decision, and would follow the newly elected head as he had with the previous. Whether she lived longer than her predecessors was to be determined. He met Sheres line of sight, nodding his furry head in affirmation "Si vali ver gredi den ghey wokel nur pkoe den pan hal brosber, Minni vl secvi vae judgement. Den nov gyndus vl kav mae pidleec, ge vali sl." The old Bothan often spoke among his peers and kin in his native Bothese tongue. But when the new arrivals stepped in the door he'd switch to his broken Galactic Basic. Although his dialect was understandable, it was by no means perfect.

I've used the ABBR code on this for my characters dialogue. To see the translation, simply hover above your cursor above the underlined text. This was purely for flavor. If any of your characters understand Bothese then you can respond accordingly or say you understood etc. If this is inconvenient I'll cease to do this.

There was far too much stock in names, so Marissa thought. So much in fact that she could have indeed called up her parents broker and purchased a hefty amount of quite real stocks she could have put away as a perfectly comfortable retirement fund. And yet, she hadn't.

Instead the stock would indeed be just that: a name. Zaa Fenn. A name that had not loomed large in any mind on the galactic stage in a great many years. And yet, it would again.

That was the plan. And there was always a plan. For what they were dropping they could have started an outfit with twice the men and double the firepower, run it on their own name, the 'Hesse Gang' had been thrown around by Preef and she still snorted when she thought of it. The idea of it, it was in honesty a fond memory. But Hesse didn't get you anywhere except the upper circles of Commenor where her parents still played politics. Zaa Fenn, by contrast, was a ticket to a whole other world. And yet, it hadn't capitalised on it.

They were here to do just that,

"It's as simple as that" she smiled replying to Preef, her eyes locked on the flashes of light that rushed past the crack in the elevator doors as it sped down each level. It would be, she was certain. This family had floundered on the edges of the Syndicates so long it could hardly call itself to council. But it was about to receive a sudden injection of credits, and hands and minds to put them to work immediately. Her fingers drummed against the briefcase that she held by her side, and yet,

It was as simple as that.

Gareth leaned against the elevator's walls, arms crossed and listenting to the simple plan, this was a bit different to what he was used to, being once a member of the Black Sun who were all about going in guns blazing and using might and power to subjugate foes. Of course, this was before he met Preef, the ex-Matukai worked alongside the Rodian in an operation that involved taking down a good amount of Mandalorians, by no means a small feat and something that would have been much harder for the skilled force sensitive warrior without his help, even if he wasn't the smarter guy around, Preef was a good shot and warrior, he had his respect and managed to convince him to join the gang, of course, the fact that the leader was not him but Marissa Hesse, an enforcer from the Black Sun that was known for being very cunning, really helped.

"Simple but not necessarily easy, stay alert, things can always go south and I doubt they will all agree to the new changes in their family" Gareth added, he could sense the mixed feelings from the Zaa Fenn not too far ahead "If the plan goes well, fine by me, if the plan goes awfully wrong...Well, I am also fine with it" they could be convinced, sure, but a jackass or two could perhaps need a show of force to get the point across, which Gareth was pretty good at doing, specially wearing his Matukai gloves which allowed him to knock some sense into them if needed or protect the others.
