Shane nodded slwoly at Krysta's performance.

"Expected from a first time with an assault rifle. All you need to work on is your stability and controlling the gun when it fires. Don't let the recoil push you around. Try again, this time try to 'lean' into your shots."

"Lean?" she repeated, slightly confused. However, she didn't want to be a bother, so she didn't mention it again, and focused on what he had told her, once more trying again. Either it didn't make much difference or she wasn't doing it right, but she kept aiming and firing anyway.

"Slightly better, it's a clean kill but you wast a few shots. The only thing you need to work on is the recoil. That will keep your spray of bolts closer together."

Shane took the firearm from her and placed it back in the bin. When he stood back up he had a slightly smaller weapon in his hands.

"Here, a carbine. It will have about the same power as that assault rifle but it lacks in range and some accuarcy. I'm sure you will be able to handle this models lessened kick. Give it a go."

"Yes... I'm pretty sure it would," she agreed slowly, feeling frustrated with herself for not getting it as soon as she aught, especially for her age. With a curt nod of thanks, she took the newer, smaller weapon in her hands. Taking aim, she once more began to shoot, her right arm sore from all of the recoil it had taken throughout the short lesson so far. She obviously wasn't used to this. However, she was determined to go on, and continued, and was intending to go on until she couldn't fire or couldn't bear the pain, and right now it was little more than a painful soreness. Not bad. Her shots were better-ish, noticeably, if you paid attention, but not spectacular. Healthy gun arms help, but oh, well.

"Good. I believe that is enough punishment for today. This time get to your bed on time, Krysta. You did good today. I expect tommorow you will be phenominal."

Shane gave a short departing nod before leaving the grounds where he would look forward to tedious paprer work and training raw recruits with no fighting skills. Atleast Krysta had some melee ability. A General's work was never done.

"Yessir," she responded, surprised at how fast the day had gone. Though she was sure he was exaggerating, Commander Ordo's words were an encouragement. "And thank you," she said quietly, under her breath as she took off her helmet and walked back to the barracks.

The next morning Shane operated as he had before. Except without a snoozing Krysta he was able to fit in his run. The conditions were once again perfect and he had to be thankful for that atleast. Oderyn also had a little spring in his step as he began his jog back to where Krysta and he would start the training. This very well may be her last day of training. The General didn't know how to feel about that.

Krysta had a bit of bounce in her step as she walked back to the field, fully refreshed and looking forward to the day. Though she knew it would probably be more guns, it for some reason still looked brighter on such a nice day. Besides, she liked being around Shane, he was a nice guy, though her senior by...

She sighed. At least she could train with him for however many months were left in her training. That would be nice. After all, she was sure it would take a few more months. She wasn't a model Mando.

As she walked up to the nearby tree, she sat down to wait for him, as she was a bit early. She had gotten up before she needed to and had nothing to do, so she figured she might as well go ahead and come. It wasn't long before she caught sight of the Commander, taking what appeared to be hid daily constitutional. Apparently he ran every morning. That's nice.

She shook her head at the random thought. As he got closer, her gaze drifted to he helmet, which she picked up as the got to her feet. Smiling at him, she gave him a small wave. She wasn't sure if that was breaching protocol or not, but she figured a small one would be okay. Less formal than a salute.

Shane noticed that Krysta had gotten there early. Promptness wasn't always something generally seen with Recruits, but being ahead of schedule? That was certainly surprising. Maybe it was a female thing. When Krysta gave him a wave he returned with a nod and slowed his pace to more of a quick walk. Once in the area he began to put on his armor. Putting on his armor seemed like a lengthy time to not speak and Shane was never oen for silence among comrades.

"So how did you like actually getting a good nights sleep?"

Krysta didn't feel compelled to speak during those few silent moments just after his arrival. Several stupid things like 'How are you?' "Have a good run?' and 'Nice day, isn't it?' passed through her mind, but she dismissed them. All of a sudden, as she awkwardly watched him don his armor. On one hand it was a pity, he wasn't bad looking at all, but then again, he was one of the few that looked good in armor. Ah, whatever, she was seventeen, she could admit it: he was handsome.

The thought shocked her, and she quickly donned her helmet to hid the fiery red blossoming on her cheeks.

"Uh, huh," she replied, partly as if she wasn't all there, and partly as if she were out of breath. She immediately cleared her throat and replied, "Yours?"

"Well, about as good as it can be."

Shane put the last latch onto his armor and made sure everyhting was secure. Leaving hsi helmet and bandolier on stump as he usually did. Looking out to the training grounds where the crate full of rifles was he turned to Krysta.

"So, you gonna once an for all knock this blaster stuff out of the park?"

"That's good," she replied, stupidly, but there was little to do about it now that she had said it. Inwardly, she was glad he didn't don the helmet - he had a nice face. It always helped to see someone's face, faceless masks never quite did it for her. Which reminded her to take off her own, forgetting why she'd put it on in the first place as she jerkily placed it on the stump next to his own.

She gave a sheepish smile at his comment and nodded, "Sure,"

"Well, let's get moving."

Shane set down the small stone path that led to the range. He never quite knew why they had even installed it out here. To Shane just a regular hill was good enough for walking but maybe a few Recruits with porr balance had takena nasty tumble down the hill.

"Yessir," she replied as she took stride behind him. As she walked, thoughts began whirling in her head. She knew that they made no sense, and they confused her, but despite her mind telling her not to, she wanted to find out more about Shane.

11 years... she shook her head, they could at least be friends, maybe. She enjoyed his company.

Now what's a discreet way of finding out if he's married? She realized that the thoughts sounded bad, but she didn't want a Mrs. Oderyn getting angry at Shane for her own... infatuation. Ahem.

"You have any kids?" There, that was good.

Shane had to turn his head so he could see Krysta out of the corner of his eye. That seemed to be a very odd thing to ask. Then again Shane just attributed it to a Recruit's curiosity.

"No, I never really sttled down. Back in my merc days I met a few girls who I thought were marriage material, but they never seemed to work out."

Shane stopped before the crate located at the firing range and retrieved Krysta's carbine. The General grabbed a magazine from the metal rectangle and loaded the weapon, now holding it out for Krysta to take.

Her spirit rose at his response, and though she smiled gently, she was fortunate enough to be behind him so she could not see it.

"Do you think you ever will settle down?" she asked, doing her best to sound only conversationally interested. Once more reaching the designated spot, she took the loaded weapon from Shane and held it in her hands for a minute, shifting her grip as she got a feel for it, after all, it had been about, what? ten hours? eight? since she last held it, she would need to get used to it again.

She took a breath as she brought to mind as much as she could remember of what Shane had told her. Slowly, almost ceremonially, she lifted the weapon and took aim, trying to focus on her grip.

"Most likely. Everyone's gotta do it eventually in their lifetime."

Shane stood a little to Krysta's left and observed the Recruit's performance. She was well on her way to becoming a great medic and soldier, all she needed to do was get her aiming down and she had a long and prosperous career ahead of her.

"Yeah..." she said, unsure of what to say next, so she opted for silence. Finally feeling at ease with her grip, she looked down the scope and began firing once more. At first, her shots were fairly bad, but as she got used to the carbine again, she steadily improved, at first dramatically, then slowly as she focused and tried to ingrain the process in her brain.

"Nice! Keep going at this rate and you'll be a one man army. Excuse me, one 'woman' army."

Shane was indeed impressed with the girls progress. She had developed from someone who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from two feet away, now she was able to shoot like a real soldier. Not exactly the best but she would definately be hitting anything that she was sighting.

"Now you're exaggerating," she said, but she bushed with pride, happy to have been approved by Shane.
