"Good. We've arrived at the area where you will construct your lightsaber."

Chester waved his hand toward a rather spacious chamber, where dozens of lightsaber parts, crystals, and other various objects used during the construction process were stored. There was a single workbench in the center of the room, where Taizen would take his time and build the weapon.

"You'll build your lightsaber inside this room. Use your knowledge and the Force to guide you. It is a process of interaction with and learning from the Force. I will be waiting outside for you to finish your task. Take as long as you need."

Taizen nodded and went to work. He knew that his lightsaber would build itself through the force but only if he allowed it to do so. He had a few ideas of his own though, of course too. An agile, quick and sneaky rapier of a weapon would be good for him to work with long term. It would fit with him well and balance his technique.

So, he made his lightsaber different. It was smaller, (not only the handles but also the each and every individual gripping point was fitted precisely to his hand form. It took a while for him to fix that to perfection.

After finishing the hilt, the handle he only had one last part left to do. He had to choose the color of the blade. He looked around at the plethora of colors before him. Amethyst, burgundy, violet, shamrock, and sky blue were all choices that stood out. But one crystal stood out above all the others to him. It was a bright clear orange, and he knew that the force was telling him to take this. So he took it and installed it.

He tested it by turning it on, and listening to it hum. He swished it around a few times for balance and quickness test. Then, he headed outside to meet his master.

"It is good."

"Excellent." Chester looked around the room they were in; it wasn't too large, but it was spacious enough for a quick lightsaber sparring session. "Tell me, Padawan, what do you know of lightsaber forms? And which one -if you know of them- would you like to learn? We should get that out of the way before any practice duels commence."

"I know that there are around 5.... different types of lightsaber forms, and they vary in style. Some are quick and penetrating, while others use brute force to assail the opponent. I would like to learn a style that is quick and penetrating."

"Perhaps Makashi, the second form, then? It is known for its elegance and grace, but forgoes some degree of power. Djem So, the fifth form, although it may be to dependent on brute force for your tastes - and your lightsaber design. Niman is always an option, as is Shii-Cho, but they are rather balanced and basic, respectively, and they don't excel in any one skill."

"Yes I do like the sound of learning Makashi. It would suit me well. Can we begin?"

"Yes, let us begin immediately. Although there are general rules and guidelines for each lightsaber form, there is no designated openings, counters, and the like that each form must use. Rather, these forms give a degree of freedom while restricting your fighting style so a Jedi doesn't go crazy on the battlefield.

As I explained, Makashi is a graceful form, which excels on lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. In particular, it uses small cuts and swift strikes to damage the opponent's body and eventually disarm or subdue him."

Chester activated his lightsaber, and then performed a standard Makashi salute before dropping into a wide defensive stance. "The Makashi salute is a traditional opening when facing other lightsaber duelists. It is traditional, and it is considered quite respectful. For now, come at me as you will with your lightsaber, keeping in mind what I have said. And do turn the power level down, unless you intend on actually severing one of my arms."

Taizen started off circling his opponent like a tiger. He was sly, and he ducked in and out penetrating his masters personal bubble and yet at the same time, not attacking. He was working with a specific purpose; to set his teacher off guard and then strike quickly enough to take him down, and disarm him.

Finally after circling him for about a minute he noticed what appeared to be a slight discrepancy in his master's defence. He did an aerial flip towards him and aimed at his hip slicing downwards at the same time.

Chester watched his student circle him intently. The Jedi Master, on the other hand, remained still; he watched and waited for Taizen to strike. When his student finally did so, Chester deflected the attack with his own lightsaber, sending his student's blade away from his body.

"Good try. Go again! Don't hesitate and keep moving."

He struck at his student's torso, but he did not actually intend on hitting him. Rather, he just wanted to force him to back away.

Taizen did a quick inside block, and then grabbed his masters arm, attempted to throw it aside and go for a leg sweep.

Chester's arm was grasped by his Padawan. That was a mistake. As Taizen moved his arm to the side, Chester threw his weapon at his Padawan, sending the lightsaber hurling toward his Padawan's head. He performed a backflip to avoid Taizen's follow-up kick, and then he caught his lightsaber as it returned to him from its brief flight. If Taizen had not ducked, it would have cut him as it flew by.

Chester placed his weapon diagonally across his chest, watching his Padawan intently in preparation for his next move.

Taizen didn't wait for his master to attack, he attacked him first. He did an aerial backflip this time and upon landing next to him on the ground lashed out at his hip from his master's blind spot. If he wasn't a good jedi then he wouldn't see the blade coming.

{{I don't see how I backflipped, and then you backflipped next to me, but I'll play along.}}

Chester had seen his Padawan jump and avoid his thrown lightsaber. However, the Jedi Master had recovered his weapon before Taizen managed to attack. He pivoted toward his pupil, lightsaber in hand. The Jedi Master parried the attack at his hip, sending it backward slightly.

Once the attack had been blocked, Chester moved forward, attacking his Padawan with his lightsaber in rapid succession: first, he aimed for his head. Then, he struck at his torso and left arm, and finally he performed a small cut at his upper leg. Once his maneuver had concluded, Chester leapt over his Padawan's head -keeping his weapon ready to block any attack- and tried to slash at his Padawan's upper body before he landed. Upon landing, he shifted his feet so he would spin and face Taizen.

((I tried to make it a little interesting like that. :p I'll edit if you thought it was a little dumb/impractical.))

As his master landed he blocked the blow that was coming towards him. He thought he saw an opening in his masters left hip and jabbed towards it, in a one-two style motion. But he lost his balance and started falling towards the ground. Pretty soon he was flat on his feet.

Once Taizen recovered his footing, Chester deactivated his lightsaber. "Halt. That's good enough, for a first round. Tell me, what did you think while you were fighting? What did you feel? Did you think -aside from your quick fumbling with your feet- that you did anything wrong? What can you improve?"

The Jedi Master was trying to allow the Padawan to think for himself, and to learn from his experience by evaluating his own strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully he would understand and contribute his thoughts.

"I can work on balance. That's a given. I can also work on common sense moves, which I think I didn't utilize as well as I could have during this duel. Perhaps I can work on using force speed more, which I should have done because I'm good at zero-g tumbling and flips and speed, stuff like that yah know?"

"Indeed. I think you may be able to work on each of those skills, in the coming duels. As a hopeful Makashi duelist, I think you should work on trading power for grace, and ferocity for precision. The Makashi duelist's goal is to either disarm the opponent or to tire them out while keeping your own stamina in check. Small cuts and swift strikes are better than wide arcs and powerful swings, in this case. Keep that in mind as well duel again."

Chester activated his lightsaber and backed up, preparing to block his Padawan's first attacks with an Ataru defense.

Using the force Taizen dashed towards his master and did a front handspring towards him. Instead of attacking him he landed behind him. Then he proceeded to ignite his blade quickly and thrust it into his masters turned back.

Chester rolled forward and dodged the attack entirely. He was on the ground for but a few seconds, and it was unlikely his Padawan could have gotten in an additional strike. Once he was back on his feet, Chester approached his Padawan from the side and struck at his abdomen, using both of his hands and all of his might in an attempt to negate any sort of defense Taizen would use.
