It's not weird at all. We announced it was going to happen four days ago and gave frequent reminders in that thread, and even had a site-wide announcement last night. You can read the thread here. You also didn't know about the time skip, so I'd suggest you read the Announcements board.

That's one of the things the FAQ in the thread I linked to answers. It is possible, but by no means guaranteed. Rank advancement is at the discretion of the faction leaders.

Not at all. It'll be around 10 years, and you can decide whether you want to have your characters age (we don't mind if people keep their characters the same age so long as people acknowledge the events of those 10 years). You can read this thread for more info.

To answer your two questions here: 1) the main Jedi locations are Tython, Coruscant, and Empress Teta. Jedi-specific questions can be sent to GABA, the Jedi faction leader, who you can get a speedier answer from. 2) Yes and no. Per our upcoming time skip and our announcement about the pre-determined battles before it, Coruscant will soon be falling to the Sith. The GA government will be collapsing and there won't be a Congress after the time skip, since the GA will have become a collection of rebel groups. Because of that, we don't really have any Congressional plans. You're welcome to make a member of Congress, but you should expect to rely only on your own plots with other people if you do, rather than plots on a Congressional level.
