Whether or not this increases interest in Alliance characters doesn't really matter. If the same level of activity is present so far as Alliance PCs goes, that's fine, because they'll be part of an already big faction. That level of activity just doesn't justify an independent Alliance faction.

As for why the Jedi don't merge into the Alliance, it's what Boli said: the focus is on Jedi vs. Sith, not Alliance vs. Sith, not Jedi vs. Empire, and not Alliance vs. Empire. It's Jedi vs. Sith, so if you put them into the focal roles then that's where the focus is.

Take our word for it, guys. This worked better than an independent Republic/Alliance ever did, and we're confident it will work much better again.

I'm assuming so - most likely there'll be some sort of GA sub-faction. The admins aren't saying that GA-specific characters like troopers can't be played, they're just restructuring the good guy faction's hierarchy and focus.

Per this. There will be an Alliance military sub-board in the NJO board. There will be a GA military roster, a GA military sign up, GA military write ups, etc.

If you have an Alliance character, the ONLY thing that's changing is which faction leadership you're serving under.

I think this is a pretty good move considering the level of activity in the Galactic Alliance currently. I definitely throw down my support.

Why is the Galactic Alliance merging into the Jedi Order instead of the other way around, though? I understand the GA is lacking in leadership OOC, but I was just curious to know the details behind that decision. It would seem more appropriate the other way around, especially considering the Empire is operated in much the same manner.

It's actually not the same manner. The Sith control the Empire, not the other way around. The faction is only called the Empire because the Sith infiltrated it. However, from a leadership standpoint, the Sith control the Empire, just as (OOCly) the Jedi will control the Alliance.

I'm pretty sure the Jedi aren't as evil and murderous as the Catholic Church years ago...hell, I'm not even sure if the SITH are as evil as them.

Also, I'm a fan of the merger idea...not like I have any say in whether it is done or any anyway. But it's a good idea.
