Racism is hate towards someone over something they cannot control, like their skin color.

But disliking homosexuals is the equivalent of disliking goths, emos, gypsies, and republicans. - Its an ideal, and a life style, it is no where near racism.

No, it's not a choice, it's not a fashion statement. I'm not getting into that debate, but homophobia on the basis that the bible says it's wrong is stupid. By all means hate gay people, but do it because you think that it's wrong, not because the bible does.

Anyhow, it does matter. This girl believes that Hitler could have gotten into heaven. She believes that believing in god totally redeems you, and a lack of faith means it's a one way ticket to hell. Hating gays would only be icing, but it's still topping off a very big cake...

No, it's not a choice, it's not a fashion statement.

I also said it is a life style, and so were the other things I mentioned. Disliking people because of their life style is perfectly acceptable, after all its no different then disliking a terrorist, or a priest, or a pimp.

So I see nothing wrong with homophobia. I don't support it, but it irritates me when people treat it like its racism. Some people need a reality check.

As Kupo said, it's not an ideal or a lifestyle. I'm not getting into the debate, but trust me there is no choice when it comes to whether you prefer men or women, you either go for one, the other or both (or are in denial) and that is that as much as you are white or black, or as much as you go for blondes or brunettes or as much as you prefer the colour red or blue. It's part of what makes you, and hating someone for that reason is stupid, bigoted and, quite frankly, sickening.

Although I think hating somebody because they're a goth or emo is pretty bad to, I mean it's deciding to hate somebody because of the way they choose to dress. They can dress how they want as much as you can, so why does someone have the right to frown on them for it.

Oh and gypsies, whilst not being a race as such, are communities. You don't wake up one morning and decide to be a gypsie, you either are born into a gypsie family or aren't.

But let's not get into a debate over this, and get back to the age old, and quite frankly pointless creationist debate.

So you've met her?
I would assume so, he and Drun are good friends.

No, it's totally different. For one a terrorist chooses to be a terrorist. And secondly a terrorist chooses to terrorise people and not have sex with another consenting adult who may be of the same sex.
So I see nothing wrong with homophobia. I don't support it, but it irritates me when people treat it like its racism. Some people need a reality check.
The way you're talking I think you need a reality check. But please, let's not get into this.

Drun is my best friend; I've known him for years and have been at school with him since forever. Of course I bloody met her...

So now being gay is the same as being a terrorist? I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

I don't think anyone woke up one day, and decided to be gay (at least, no one who was actually gay, and not just seeking attention). Whereas I think choosing to die for your religion against a perceived evil is just that; a choice.

And it is like racism. Admittedly, it's not on the same level, because gay people never really faced the same kind of massive discrimination that black people did. They may have been looked down upon, but I don't think (in the modern day) that there was ever state sponsored homophobia (at least in the developed world).

It's true racism is a bigger problem, but that doesn't mean that homophobia isn't one, because it's not as bad. I'm sure a gay person would be willing to admit that the blacks may well have it worse, but I'd bet you anything that they'd magic away homophobia before they did racism.

Just out of general interest, if you're a creationist why are you posting something that rips the shit out of creationists?

Because I don't need a thread on a star wars forum to reinforce my beliefs. Not to mention, I never said I was a Christian.

Even if you agreed with him you said the words "I am a creationist", a creationist is a type of Christian, so you did admit you were one.

And to be fair, I suppose you could take lolcat as a serious argument, I mean it is just as feesible as Genesis...

No, when I say creationist, I mean I believe that there was a creator, a supreme engineer who created all things.

And, lol harsh.

Ah, that's totally different from actual creationism.

And no, it's true. There's as much proof for lolcat as there is for Genesis. I'll get shouted at for saying this by the site's evangelicals. They shouted at me when I pointed out there was as much proof as God's existence as me being the messiah and they called me a jackarse for that, yet the fact remains it's true; there is no proof.

Aye, I didn't know that - I thought it just meant you believed in a creator. My bad.

No, a creationist is somebody who believes in creationism, which is the belief that Genesis is word for word, literal truth.

I believe that the universe is random, yet ordered in the sense of, while things appear random, there is actually a much larger force that acts on them and causes them to naturally seek an ordered set of laws and movements, hence science tends to work. I simply think that the universe had no actual beginning and that it is forever in all time directions. I know that will bring up the how do we see this light from beginning of universe type thing, but I think that the universe resets itself every however so long it pleases. It's not beyond my comprehension that a higher dimensional being may have created it, considering how many people see spirits and such that live on a higher plane and can alter things to an extent, it's not too far fetched to say there is an even higher plane-liver that created and assigned laws to everything....

But that's just me. I could be completely wrong.

Geez, this thread wasn't supposed to be a heated religious frag-fest (that's what it looks like so far).

Genesis has a lot more proof than lolcats. Snakes crawl on their bellies. We have evidence of the Flood. I don't care what people say, all the things that are explained by the flood have crappy explanations otherwise. I'm pretty sure there's evidence that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, and all these years later we manage to imitate it with the Atom Bomb. :CStern:

The very beginning has no proof from anyone ever at all. It's all faith. Oh, and please I don't want people to start dissing faith... that seems to happen alot. The Bible has some pretty hard facts around some of it, and predictions work wonders. But seriously... find one ounce of proof in favour of a theory in how the world was created, and I'll change my name to Bubba Barney Bum. You're not gonna find it. :CHappy:

It's fun to speculate though.

1. No it doesn't.
2. That's not proof for Genesis. If anything it's proof for evolution.

And anyway, by your logic, I could turn around and say "Snakes can't talk, so therefore Genesis must be false."

We have evidence of the Flood. I don't care what people say, all the things that are explained by the flood have crappy explanations otherwise.
It is specualted a flood may have occurred around that time. But I would say that "scientific geography" is a pretty good explaination compared to "a magic man in the sky did it".

I mean there's evidence Jesus existed, it doesn't prove he's the son of God.

Name one. Name one fact that proves anything the bible says about God, or Jesus or any other character within it.

God cursed snakes. I know it's got no real proof, but still. I think it could've been a dragon before it was cursed, and Satan never talked through the snake after it was cursed, and therefore that's where the dragon mythology came from.

And what are you calling "Scientific Geography"? There is no scientific way to explain a sudden flooding of the whole earth, while there is geographical evidence.

I wonder how the Jews crossed the Red Sea safely and yet the Egyptions have been recently found lying on its floor... hmmm...
