The hike was proving to be a great form of meditation for Maru as he crunched along behind their guides one step following another as the wink whipped around them throwing his hair up and around and the focus of his meditation was “Why did I agree to this?”
The mission had sounded simple enough, walk with some native guides across steep terrain as they neared the first of the generators they would have to get to repair. While this didnt sound like such a task when it was offered to Maru he hadnt realized that this would be done on a planet thats weather patterns were as fluctuating and temperamental as Bantha with a clamp on its tail. Twice now they had to dip down to cover to avoid some of the most intensive windstorms he had felt in his life and the guides joked that they had been mild!
One hand reached up planning to scratch his cheek before it knocked against plastic for probably the thousandth time, he had to hand it to the makers of the breathing masks they fit well enough that after a time you forgot you were wearing them, but without them he’d only last awhile on the surface of this planet. He resisted the urge to heave a sigh, after all he didnt want to tempt fate and risk damage to his mask so instead he stomped along.
It didnt help that by suggesting he had a strong back and wanting to be helpful that he was carrying a ton of gear in various bags and containers all hooked up to harnesses on his back and hips. Not only were there tools and spare parts but also supplies should they need to camp on this journey though due to the importance of the repairs the less time this took the better off everyone would be.
As the group cleared the trail he had to pause as he got a truly amazing view of the horizon, even able to see one of the cities that this mission would be helping out in the distance a speck of color on an otherwise deceptively barren view. Judging it was hard thanks to the dust played havoc with the lighting of the world, he had no sense of time on this planet anymore. “Well…..the view makes the trip a bit better” h e said aloud catching his breath and rolling his shoulders some or as best he could. “How you holding up?” he asked his fellow knight, turning to smile though the expression was lost under his mask.
