it's not really foreign, but I'm dating a Canadian girl right now. It's interesting to see how our interactions are different as opposed to when I was with other girls, now that there is a border and several hours between us. Harder in some ways, and yet it is easier in another. Hard to be so far and not be able to spend time together in person as often, but good in that it requires a much stronger relationship if you would even hope to continue it, in my opinion. The gal I'm dating also happens to be my best friend, as well, which certainly helps my personal case.

Common trope in American television/film is American male youths, when confronted about their 'manliness', will create a story about a girlfriend who lives up in Canada which is why none of his friends have met her.

EDIT: Also, if your GF is from Southern Ontario (which is overwhelmingly likely to be the case) then there REALLY isn't much of a cultural difference between a Southern Ontarian and a New Yorker.

To find some truly different Canadians you need to visit Quebec, the East, or the North.
