Khaluq had chosen rocks to begin with, knowing if he focused too hard on the rock and with the Force, the pressure would have been enough to injure or kill a living thing.

"Relax," she urged, "and don't force it to you. Fill your mind with peace and your objective. It will come easier in time."

OOC: describe how you're moving the stone, please. I need you to give me more feedback to go on. The intensity of your training will increase and grow more graphic as you give me more. It's hard go gauge progress on little, dear.

Dilios tried again. This time, he pictured the stone sliding across the floor towards where he was sitting. He could feel the smoothness of the stone and the cold floor that it rested on.

As the stone stopped before him, a word entered his mind, obviously encouraged by Khaluq, meditation.

"Each day you should meditate and reveal the mistakes you've against the will of the Force so you may have time to make amends. Through meditation, you'll find the truth behind your actions: was it my own will or was it truly done because of the urging felt by the Force," she told him.

Turning her head to another stone, a little further away than the first, she pointed to it. "Now try to draw the other stone near to you."

Dilios closed his eyes again, and repeated what he did the last time. The cold smooth stone moving across the cold floor of the room. He pictured it moving to him from it's original location. The sound of the friction between the stone and floor.

As he drew the other stone closer to him, a little more difficult than the first, another word entered his mind, training.

"There is always more to learn of and from the Force. If you seek it, it shall reveal itself to you, yet you must desire to learn more about the Force and know how to see it. Heeding the will of the Force is not enough. You cannot look upon an animal and understand what it is. You must study the animal, find its habits, its nature, and so forth. So too is the Force. Study it and you will be amazed by what it can show you," she encouraged him, watching his face carefully as she spoke.

Letting her words sink in for a moment and allowing him a moment to rest, she reached forward, picking up the two stones and placed them into her lap. Once she was finished, she pointed to another rock, sitting behind her a few meters. In order to move the rock toward him, he would have to alter its course part of the way to bypass his master, or risk smacking it into her rear, not a pleasant concept he would dare consider (lol...he better not at least).

"Study the Force around the next stone and work with its flow, not against it in drawing it near to you," she told him, not moving from her current position.

Dilios nodded and closed his eyes. He felt the cold floor. He felt rubbing against the floor and approaching an individual. He felt veering out of the way of the individual and then returning to the original course.

OOC: Sorry, dear. I didn't know you had replied.

As the third stone made it's way toward Dilios, Khaluq's eyes had closed as she connected with his mind, sending him one word, integrity.

"Jedi are looked highly upon by all within the galaxy. Your robes, your behavior...all that is external will be judged by those who see you. Yet, just because you are a Jedi does not mean that you always must be honest when dealing with others. Sometimes it is best to let them continue thinking and believing what they already believe. By doing so, you are not being dishonest. There may be a time when to do the will of the Force you must rely upon deception, misdirection, avoidance or even fraud. However, to follow these things to serve your own will is crossing the line, allowing the darkness to take a little more hold in you. Still, your actions will never be above the law. For every choice you make, there will be consequences. By making choices in line with the will of the Force, the consequences will be worth it. Just as the stone's path is not always straight, your path and investigations may lead you down further paths. Yet, the journey and information uncovered during that time will be worthwhile. Remember these words," she told him.

"Focus now your attention on the stone before you, study the flow of the Force around it. When you have the current of the Force in your mind, will the Force to slip underneath the stone instead of around it, lifting it from the ground."

Dilios nodded and closed his eyes. He felt the cold air in the room he was in, and the cold smooth surface of the stone. He felt the bottom of the stone, and felt the stone moving upwards.

"Good," she told him, feeling his control over the stone, wavering though it may be at times. "Now concentrate on the Force flowing around the stone, underneath it and feel the pull of gravity working against you, attempting to pull the stone back to the ground. Resist it and focus completely on the Force. Allow yourself to fall deeper into it's flow. Let go of your surroundings and feel only the Force and the stone."

Waiting to let the strain of holding onto the stone to begin to reach him, she began to draw his attention to her words through the Force this time.

:Morality. Being a Jedi does not mean you can do no wrong. Remember it is through meditation that you can discover the reasoning behind your actions and seek a way to correct your mistakes. Yet you cannot enforce your beliefs on another. It is not your place to become an enforcer of morals. It is true that you can restore order or seek justice, but you cannot sit in judgement of another. It is not possible to understand all of the cultures that surround us, nor is it right to force these other cultures to follow our own morals.

There is a story, passed down through the ages. A Jedi once learned her companion had been devoured by the carnivorous race. When asked upon returning why the Jedi later bargained with the very same beings for starship components, she responded: 'Because eating the flesh of sentient beings is nor forbidden by the Jedi Code; but to the Colicoids, not eating the flesh of sentient beings is considered a sign of insanity.'
This young Jedi realized that punishing the race for following their nature would be acting out of emotion and ignorance. Similarly, not proceeding to procure a badly needed engine part would have been punishing herself out of guilt.:

Khaluq waited for her words to sink in before continuing on, noting the perspiration coming upon her padawan's brow.

:Yet, to sit in judgement of others leads to vengeance, and vengeance leads to the dark side. This may be easy to understand, but not so easy to practice. "Should a known murderer be allowed to go free? Should a man intent on murder be killed? To answer either question, a Jedi must first know the will of the Force. Neither decision can be made hastily, except when lives are threatened by inaction." Your place is not as a judge, but as a mediator, one who makes sure all sides are heard, one who seeks balance.:

Dilios could feel nothing but the smoothness of the stone, and the gravity attempting to pull it back down. At the same time, his master's words sunk into his head.

"Keep the stone in place and pull the far to your left toward you. Concentrate and do not lose your focus. You must equally wish the one to stay in the air and the other to come to you," she told him.

Waiting for him to reach further into the Force before continuing, she went on with the lesson.

:Discretion. You must always remember that you are not an enforcer of the laws. A Jedi is one who must ensure justice is preserved, but we are not law enforcement. Many believe we are willing to overlook a small crime in order to catch a larger criminal. Such is not always the case. Remember that we act according to the will of the Force. Some lessons are lessons that are hard to swallow. For us to step in when faced with any hardship for another, we weaken that person, preventing their own personal growth from the pain of the circumstance.:

She regarded his progress, seeing it was taking him a little bit longer and the strain was wearing upon him. She waited until he lost his focus and the rock before him fell to the ground seeing his response to the failure, sensing it was coming.

Dilios put a frown on his face. "How did that happen? I was concentrating!" He scratched his head and moped. "Was it difficult for you, when you were training master?"

Khaluq couldn't stop the laugh that bellowed out at the question. "Yes, Dilios, it was very hard at first. Yet, it becomes easier in time," she finally answered when her laughter had died down.

"My Master was....unique to say the least," she began to tell him, seeing those days in her mind as clearly as if they were happening again. "On the first day of training, when I arrived to the room, I found him meditating, barefooted. It was odd to see anyone running around without shoes at the former Station..." she chuckled at her words again and then sighed. "It was so cold there you felt like you were constantly going to freeze when the outer doors were opened and patrols returned. Still, he hated wearing shoes, still does probably."

"I'll never forget my first day of training, though," she began looking off to the distance and then turning her gaze back to Dilos. "Be glad I am did not start your training as he did mine. I recall him turning out the lights and jumping around the room in the dark, telling me to hit him. You see, he wanted me to find where he was through the Force and not rely upon my own senses, for your senses can be misleading."

Dilios grinned at his master's story. It truly was amusing and he was happy he did not go through that. "So Jedi do not use sight or hearing?" Dilios was trying to understand more. "Jedi don't use the senses they are born with?"

Khaluq's smile deepened at his question, knowing it was a valid one. "Jedi need to use all of their senses," she explained to him. "However, there are tricks that can be played upon the mind through the Force. If someone's will is weakened, their minds can be fooled into thinking they saw or didn't see, heard or didn't hear something. Such techniques can be helpful when trying to avoid a fight, yet messing with the mind of another can be dangerous and addictive. When you impose your own will upon an innocent person, you are robbing them of their natural right to think and choose for themselves. Yet, there can come a time and a place where such a distraction can mean life or death."

Dilios listened to his master's words and nodded. He was finally understanding. "Can I try the rock again?"

Khaluq noted his eagerness to continue with his training, yet knew the strain that had been put upon his body thus far.

"I understand your want for perfection, yet it is never the case. You will grow stronger in time. Students do not pass the first test in their first week. I pressed you to see your limits so I may know how far to push you in the future. To push yourself past exhaustion and clear thinking will only make your attempts to use the Force more unfocused and unruly. You must always be in control, be focused when delving into the Force. No, we shall move on to another portion of your training."

Rising up again, a bit more slowly than the past two times, she ushered him over to the computer console. Touching her fingertips on the panel, she opened up data on the lightsaber and stepped out of the way.

Components

A lightsaber is in many ways simpler than other weapons such as blasters, given its lack of mechanical parts. However, its dependence on arc wave energy mechanics requires that it be carefully integrated together and finely tuned. A carelessly constructed lightsaber can have catastrophic effects for the wielder. They have been known to detonate upon activation, resulting in the maiming or death of the wielder. Power Assembly

The principles behind the power source of a lightsaber are similar to those behind other hand-held weapons such as blasters. But more attention is paid to aligning the energy along the axis of the lightsaber.
  • Diatium power cell - highly compact energy source; must provide very stable energy over a very long period. Such power cells are also used to power small blasters.
  • Power field conductor - surrounds the power cell; causes the generated energy to be translated laterally parallel to the the axis of the lightsaber.
  • Power vortex ring - surrounds to power field conductor; contains the generated energy so that virtually all of it can be used the crystal energy chamber, and ultimately, result in a more powerful blade.
  • Inert power insulator - surrounds the power vortex ring. Provides very high resistance against energy conductance to any potential external energy carriers. It thereby works with the power vortex ring to maximize available energy.
  • Energy gate - emitter to crystal energy chamber; sits directly in the path of the primary crystal.
Crystal Energy Chamber

The energy from the power assembly is directed through the energy gate and into the crystals of the crystal energy chamber. The highly chaotic wide-spectrum energy which enters the chamber is transformed into narrow-spectrum energy, giving the lightsaber blade its distinct color and power/energy characteristics.
Virtually any naturally occurring crystals may be used. But the resonance and spectrum narrowing characteristics vary with the material properties of the crystal. Kaiburr crystals are preferred, but are extremely rare.
  • Primary crystal - provides the primary frequency of the energy beam which is fed to blade generation.
  • Focusing crystals - additional crystals to direct the energy beam toward blade generation. These often provide secondary frequencies, resulting in changes in color of the blade.
  • Focusing crystal activator - engages focusing crystals. Individual focusing crystals may have individual activators.
Blade Generation

Energy from the crystal energy change is converted into arc wave energy, which is visible as the blade of the lightsaber.
The power and length of the blade may be adjusted to fit the specific circumstances, depending on the energy output of the material that the blade will encounter. Most common materials are relatively low energy compared to a lightsaber blade. Other the other hand, encounter with another lightsaber blade calls for higher energy, and therefore higher power output, characteristics.
  • Blade energy channel - a long, hollow chamber where arc wave generation takes place.
  • Cycling field energizers - energizers which are external and parallel to the blade energy chamber. Modulation of these results in the crystal energy chamber output being converted into arc wave energy.
  • Energy modulation circuits - provides feedback to drive the cycling field energizers.
  • Blade arc tip - tip of blade energy chamber. From this point, the arc wave energy becomes a visible blade.

Dilios nodded and read the information on lightsabers parts. "So I will be building a lightsaber soon?"

"You will be given a training lightsaber with which to train. One of your last tasks will be to construct one. Yet, you must study this information and understand it. Building your own lightsaber is no easy task. Placing the components incorrectly could result in losing a hand, arm or worse. Your training will be complete when you can build one of your own," she advised him, pulling a lightsaber out from within her robes and handing it to him.
