I don't know how to approach making a profile for the new timeline. Let's say that I have the various pictures I will use, and a general basis for the profile.

Base for the character:

Viking warrior (turned into either a Mandalorian or honourable "Bounty Hunter")

A guy who uses his sense of humour during moments deemed more serious than other (ex. Calm down little brother, no need to kill just him. There's enough for everyone :CHappy )

But the main reason he uses that humour is because he doesn't want to think of the things he's had to do and things he's done.

Unfortunately I just can't think :CCry2

I feel horrible. Thoughts, suggestions?

what exactly do you want help with? I mean if you want to make him like that you can there is nothing or no-one stopping you. But do you have problems developing his personality or his history?

It's a little of both. Mainly because I always feel like making a EPIC character, but I know in reality that it's unlikely that any of my characters will really make a difference, large or small. So instead of that, I want to twist my focus into making it a deep, deep piece.

It'll also help my short stories.

But it's that I'm not sure what constitutes a proper, small-scale character without trying to make him epic. Every character I've written was always meant for great things, but the plans never came to fruition because my own failings as a writer.

So, an example would be nice, or advice on making a low-key, but still equally interesting fellow who could quite possibly make some kind of waves in the RP.

I honestly can't think what to tell you; there's no easy fix to that situation. If it were me, I'd first off figure out what kind of person I want him to be and then decide how that personality would drive him into whatever career/position he currently has. It seems like you've already done that, though...hmm....

Eh, I wouldn't worry how big of a part your character will play in the great scheme of things. The very fact that he's there is meaningful in its own way so long as you make him as well as you can. I like to think of rping as writing a novella; very few good novellas are about spectacular events or grand battles, but rather simple, meaningful discussions and relationships that blossom into something beautiful.

So I'd probably recommend someone heartfelt for you. Maybe a character who has suffered a severe tragedy in his life (death of a close family member or friend due to disease or something cruelly drawn out and upsetting) and tries to put a bright face on things, but doesn't quite manage to pull it off. You could also to build a relationship with another low-key, tormented character and try to get back on your feet together. And who knows? If your character is a bounty hunter or a smuggler of some sort then he could actually play a pretty major part in the plot later on, should that tickle your fancy.

Sorry I couldn't be of more use. I hope this helps.

There seems to be this mindset circulating (which I myself had about a year ago) that characters can't make any impact on the RP. I don't know what your "failings as a writer" were, but in the end if you want to make your character important, you can.

If you want, you can send me a PM or add me on MSN/AIM and I'll help you brainstorm a little. I like the basic concept you have of a gritty warrior with a humorous side to bely some kind of trauma or insecurity, it just needs to be fleshed out a little.

I have a character like that. Seems uncapable of taking anything too seriously, OOCly she is hilarious to other players, but ICly some people detest her lack of decorum. An obsession-driven goal, very unlikely to be fulfilled, summed up with fears and responsabilities make her one of my favourite characters to roleplay as.

What i've learned is that you can make a difference/something epic, BUT you have to be in one of the main factions or it has to be into whats already setted on the main factions, because the real deal is among them.

If you need someone to roleplay in the new timeline for a bounty-huntery/piratey character I could give you a hook (insert ironic wink here) tu-rum psshh.

If you go into making a character thinking he can't make a difference whether big or small, then he wont. That's my 2 cents there.

If you make a bounty hunter then by all means use him as one. Hunt Jedi or Sith, hunt the Republic Officers, hunt the "bad guys" for the republic. And by that I mean look for player characters. You can set up your own threads to put your character near an open thread that one of these faction members may post and by all means can attempt to kill a Player Controlled character. I anticipate doing it with the character I have in mind, however he's going to be more of a Smuggler and less of a bounty hunter.

If you need any help shoot me a PM or add me on MSN (if you have it) I'll be on all night (till 10 eastern time) and more than happy to help.

This discussion over everything has helped. Alot.

So I'm happy to say I am 2 and 1/2 pages into this character's history.

When I'm done I am expecting around 13 pages total, if I don't rush it.

Lol, how do you go from not knowing what you want to anticipating 13 pages of history?

It could just be a story.

Start to end without any actual rp'ing.

Would be a first.

Rosh Greydawn's bio part of his profile only has 3 paragraphs. :(

Quality, not quantity.

Not that the guy is typing 13 pages of shit, i'm sure it's good stuff.

If i clicked a profile and it was 13 pages long, it would be a tl;dr instant reaction. Unless i know the player/has been asked to give feedback

I really don't know if starting a character off with 13 pages of history is a good thing, no matter how great of a read it could be.

Just my honest opinion.

May I suggest you polish your writing skills by actually posting in the Role Play instead of just writing a very long history?
