Hey everyone, so Saint had a really awesome idea for an Indie Faction back before the timeline commenced, he ran the idea by me and I loved it. He has since unfortunately been unable to go through with it because he's a little busy but I humbly agreed to take over its conceptualisation and would love to run with it! Basically the faction is the 'Black Bha'lir' who are a canon guild of smugglers based on Socorro. Here is a Wookieepedia article concerning them: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Bha'lir

While they are a little similar to the Mekatua [sp?] faction that is already running, I think their ethical code makes them particularly unique - aaaand they have a contentious canon history with the Hutts, which will surely make for some compelling rp! Of course I'll add to and write up a decent amount more concerning them (and create a much better looking logo than the one they currently have!) once I know it has the potential to go ahead. I will also definitely make sure that we have really compelling and interesting and juicy stories to rp!! So...I'd love to know if anyone would be interested in helping me put this faction together, if we have enough people that are willing and interested then it can go ahead. Let me know! PM me or reply here if you think it sounds like something up your alley :) Thanks everyone! xoxoxo

PS. I have created a little advertisement/recruitment video to give you guys the vibe and presence I have in mind for this faction! Hope you like ;)

I dont believe we are allowed to use canon factions like that. In any case the faction would have to start off where the other few smuggling groups started off at.

I also think their code about not profiting of weakness makes it insanely hard to make profit or expand. It also makes it hard to do anything lawless in general (or so I imagine anyway)

Pretty sure someone used the Black Sun previously, as well as another cannon assassins group at some point. Neither did very well over all, but yeah...

The code about not profiting off weakness means they attack strong things, like say a strong corperation. It makes it hard, yes, but think robin hood robin from the sheriff of nottingham. Neutral good, or Chaotic Neutral.

- I dont particularly remember. I guess our faction admin can give more info about that (that said it would be easy to make a carbon copy under a different / similar faction name)

- I might be thinking it too carefully and technically but wouldnt exploiting the weakness of a ship of someone be breaking that rule? I dunno

Other then that the faction seems fine.

Why aren't we allowed to use canon factions? And like what exactly? I also said that I would add things to their bio and history - which is to make it fit to the rule of Indie faction creation, of course they'd start off the same as the other factions...

You're such an accountant, who cares if the code makes them 'insanely difficult to make profit or expand', they're different from other smuggling and criminal factions because they do things in a really unique way. It doesn't mean that they won't make for good and decent writing and rps. Like Sheo said, they would be smuggling and preying on those stronger than them, not weaker. And I'm pretty sure the Hutts are a prime example of this. They're still going to be able to be legitimately criminal and underworldy, just in a completely new and different way. So nerrrrr Mr. Negative pants.

Well we arent allowed to use canon names for our characters so I thought the same applied to factions aswell.

Its just a personal opinion of myself not so much criticism.
Its based on the same principal that Communism wont work unless we take out the human factor of greed and power grabbing

Oh for sure I love their unique way of operating. I was merely stating my own opinion on the faction rules :P (in regards to myself)

Eh, the Merkatua have a very deep hatred of the Hutts, who happen to be their main business opponents.

:CStern

Wanna roll with us instead?

From the quick review of the link I'd have to say yes.

Never profit from the weakness of others. A difficult principle to reconcile with a life of crime, members of the Black Bha'lir were expected to "play fair". To take advantage of the weakness of another being was considered cowardly and evil.

Definitely a robin hood esque faction. Rather than making a carbon copy, you should create your own version. Rather than starting out having a grudge against the Hutts see if you can RP out one with another faction. I remember someone saying they intended to create a Hutt indy faction.
