We could take back our good from those nasty pirates. Set up trade deals with high ranking senators and the like. Protect our convoys from pirates. Explore the galaxy for new and strange trade goods. Attack pirate bases. Smuggle, if times get tight, or if the money is right. We could be respectable haulers. Whadya say?

Trader's Guild
Description:
The trader’s guild is a loose association of haulers, explorers, and envoys who secure trade goods and see that they are delivered in a timely fashion and for a good price. Why buy into this group when you could go at it alone? For the resources my friend. We have the contacts, we have the goods, and we have the ships. What are you going to do when that one trade contract you have dries up? What are you going to do when the price of goods rises above what you can meet? What are you going to do when pirates take your livelihood? You’ll turn to the guild is what you’ll do. For a small yearly fee we’ll make sure you always have a route to run, a ship to fly, and no fear in the sky. We aren’t just about transporting goods either. We have cartographers mapping out some of the strangest parts of the galaxy. Explorer’s and entrepreneurs looking for new tech, new minerals, and new goods to sell. We’ve got envoys and dignitaries securing trade deals. And we’ve got muscle to make sure the pirates stay off our hyper lanes.

Goal: To become the one stop shop in shipping. A Republic contract this close to the brink of war would be a gold mine. While they’re trying to supply weapons to the front lines we’ll be lining our pockets with their cash. We also have a niche in exploration and mining. If we can find the holy grail by going through a black hole, then there’s only one thing to do.

Rules: Pay your dues on time, don’t compete with fellow traders, and if you’re going to smuggle, don’t get caught.

Structure/Rank: There’s no real chain of command. If you’re flying with an escort do what they say. If you’re securing a contract, the client is king. If you’re exploring the galaxy, don’t come back empty handed. At the head of the trader’s guild is a single man who decides what’s best for the guild and who takes what jobs. If you’ve got a better plan or idea, let him hear it, his word isn’t law.
Roster:
Intent: To provide a place for greenies to grow their brand, smugglers to regain their honor, criminals to get a fresh start, envoys and dignitaries to help their home worlds, explorer’s the backing they need to go places they couldn’t on their own, cartographers to draw the galaxy and give that information to those best suited to use it, miners to reach the stars and drill through them. In short, to give all the little guys a step up and the help they need to make this galaxy a better place.

Assets:
Base of Operations: Felucia, Coordinates R-6 near the city Kway Teow. The current head quarters acts as hub for collecting and processing the raw resources found on Felucia, as well as a distribution hub for those goods. There are also a few offices and a barracks for the members of the guild who are traveling through the system or are waiting for their next assignment.

Mining Outpost: Despayre, Coordinates L-5 a small mining outpost that drills and refines Quadanium Steel.

Fleet: 5 Gunships, 15 Starfighters, 5 Interceptors, 5 Cargo Vessels, 5 Freighters

Military: 100 pilots and crew members. 25 Security personnel.

Workers: 50 Miners, 50 scientists, 50 laborers

Divisions:
Resource Collection: The members of this division specialize in finding and collecting valuable resources to be traded. Whether it be minerals, botanicals, slaves, maps, or information about the galaxy at large. Many times these members will also take part in the Allocation (finding buyers) and Distribution (shipping the goods) phases of trading.

Resource Distribution: These are the pilots, and the forces that protect those pilots, who move the goods from one place to another. Many times they will need to try new routes and explore regions of the galaxy they've never been to before in order to meet the needs of the client. You don't have to be the best pilot or the smartest navigator. Interactions with the client and keeping them happy is more important than getting there first.

Resource Allocation: These are the members who go out and find buyers for our goods. They'll visit senates, huts, Hutts, and Siniteens. They'll travel to warring factions and distant moons, all in search of the next great deal. Economists searching the galaxy for high demand and low supply, these are the members who really make the Trader's Guild their money.
Mission Examples:
Collection:
An abandoned mine on planet X is said to still contain plenty of ore. Find out why the locals stopped mining there and do what you can to secure the resources.
The Loyalists of planet X would like a detailed map of Beggar's Canyon. Map out the canyon and deliver the datadrive. If possible, figure out why they need the information.
We've got a collector looking for something new and exciting. He'll pay big. Go out there and find something exciting that'll loosen his grip on those creds.

Distribution:
A local merchant traveling between cities. He requested protection from the ackalays. Travel with him and keep the cargo safe.
Pirate along X hyperlane have stollen two shipments this month. Put them out of commission and recover our goods.
We've got a long flight from Duunir to Coruscant coming up. Deliver the goods and watch out for pirates and anything else that may be lurking out in wild space.

Allocation:
We've got a large company looking to utilize our vessels and pilots. Seal the deal.
We're sitting on a pile of Quadanium; find someone willing to pay hand over fist for it. It'd be a good idea if you took some of the goods with you; just make sure no one takes the goods from the cargo bay.
The Republic Senate will be in session this week. Meet with a senator and try to get a trade deal with their planet.

This actually does sound pretty good, creates a lot of potential RPs too.

Hm...a procurement arm would allow for direct trading which is quite profitable. It wouldn't be solely miners as we'll need to procure other goods as well; but we could certainly have a procurement division that includes miners!

This is a neat idea, respectable haulers would be neat. You could even set up a courier branch too.

Though all of my characters are currently invested in other factions, PriceCorp would definitely be an interested party. Perhaps they could set up a trade deal.

Wat.

The czerka page says contractors aren't on the books.

EDIT: Whatever the case may be, I'm still interested.

I'm thinking a procurement division (miners, explorers, cartographers, ect) a hauling division (pilots as well as ground transportation) and a relations division (getting contracts and exploring new trade possibilities). With lots of overlap in the division's due to the small nature of the guild.

Shalken, if I get more interest and this thing gets off the ground I'll look up PriceCorp.

Pernicious, sweet! If we can get 7-8 people total interested (and willing to make characters) I'll make a write up. I know the minimum is five but I'd rather not have to worry about someone leaving and getting archived after only a week or two. :P

For the record, my PC Davian Price is the founder and CEO of PriceCorp, although it is currently a Czerka subsidiary.

Despite this, I'm quite interested in the idea. Although his company wouldn't necessarily be part of the "traders guild" or whatever you choose to call it, Davian would be most interested in contracts and whatnot :p

Bare bones write-up to give people a better idea of what I'm thinking.

Yes, I was thinking it would be a good first major contract if this all works out.

I am interested, but I have a full roster. Give me some time to mull this over and I'll get back to you.
