thats your opinion dear, but many dont share it, most people in the world do want- even need to feel like they belong someplace in time, to have a family, a legacy.

being born where we were we have it, and we can ignore it, not care, take it for granted.. but in all seriousness- when it's missing? you can tell

but then again your not renown for being too empathic :P

Because empathy has nothing to do with it.

The fact that your grandad ****ed a French girl, only matters in terms of genetics. It shouldn't matter at all, if I were to trace my roots to some backwater town in Missouri would it change anything about me? No. So why waste the time?

I've made my point better earlier in the thread regardless. Discussing it further is pointless.

You're not American.

I know that sounds weird to say, but it's entirely a cultural thing. America, FAAAAR more than European countries (particularly western Europe), is a nation of immigrants. Almost everyone in this country has ancestors that immigrated from another country, many as recently as a century or two ago. So there's a certain fascination and wonder that comes with that to know where we came from, and to traces our origins back.

It's not something I would expect someone from Ireland to understand. That doesn't make it irrational, though.

Being American has nothing to do with it. Youve missed my prior points in the thread. I have no problem with people finding our their great great grand parents did the nasty with some foreigners, but I have a problem with people thinking it actually means anything.

What I find idiotic, as I mentioned previously that Shiuzu is the only one who understood this, is people who actually believe they are FROM those places as a result.

American tourists telling me their Irish because two hundred years ago their grandmothers ****ed some sheep for example.

You need to realise that distinction that I've made, otherwise I'm arguing a point that I don't actually agree with.

It's Kaeb

First of all, I think you're a ****ing idiot. You neve contribute anything to any thread on the forum and you don't seem capable of having a discussion let alone forming a coherent thought. I want your idiotic opinion of me, I'll ask for it.

Not necessary. And I am in the idiot? I am not the one who can only get kicks from attempting to put people down or using curse words to attempt to enhance what I say. You have a reputation for being a cynical person, and even even seem to pride yourself on that, so when someone calls you out on it, they are an idiot. Okay.

Quebec is a nation of immigrants too and we're not ****ing pussies about it. We're ****ing quebecers and that's that. ****

I don't attempt to use curse words to enhance a sentence, that's their EXACT purpose.

Please, give me some examples of how I pride myself on putting others down, because you couldn't be further from the truth.

You're an idiot because you're incapable of conducting a discussion yourself, you have to let others do it for you, stop making jumps in logic that don't make any sense. You weren't calling me out on being clinical, you were attempting to make a jibe at me by quoting another persons post, something you do frequently. All it accomplishes is making you look like an ignorant tool who can't speak for himself.

If anything, Im almost proud you responded to my last message in the first place. You usually run away and pretend like you weren't involved in a discussion in the first place.

He knew what he would start if he made another jibe at me. I'm responding in kind. If you don't like it, don't read it.

You seem to be doing it right now. Now kindly either stop going after Wing or, if you absolutely feel you have to continue this pointless list of insulting, take it to the PMs. I don't want the admins to have to waste their time coming in and locking this thread because someone started an argument.

Meh. This does apply to you as well. If you don't like something Wing said, don't read it.

You're wrong.

He tried to insult me, I provided my opinion of him in reply. He made a comment that doesn't make any sense, I clarified my point. How is that putting someone down for kicks?

Without sounding like a play school child, he started it. Like everything he starts, he wasn't prepared to finish it....or even continue it.

My points been made regardless.

I know this is locked, but I feel there's an important point to be made.

You need to realise that distinction that I've made, otherwise I'm arguing a point that I don't actually agree with.

You are correct in saying that it doesn't mean they're from there. There's a difference between "I'm Irish" and "I'm of Irish descent." You're the former, I'm the latter. I understand that distinction.

What you have to understand, though, is while the latter may be meaningless to you, it's not to other people, such as Americans. It's important for us, as a nation almost entirely made up of immigrants, to know where we came from. While we in America place a big emphasis on being American, we've also learned from the time we were in grammar school that we're a nation of immigrants. Every American knows the term "melting pot," so we know that the American culture was created as a result of lots of other cultures coming together. Because of that, we want to know where we came from within that culture.

It doesn't have to make sense to you. It doesn't have to mean anything to you. In an American context, however, it makes sense to us and it does mean something to us. You're welcome to think it's stupid. That doesn't mean it is.
