So, does anyone here play TCGs/CCGs? If so, has anyone here tried Legend of the Five Rings?

I've taken a look at it recently and discovered that the survey wanted me to be crane clan. I like them. They look cool.

Anyone tried the game though? I really want to, but I'm looking for feedback about it.

I've never played the game, but I've read all of the books and I think they're great. A little disjointed from one book the next, but overall the entire universe is awesome. The mixture of fantasy with Far East mythology and military is a perfect mix IMO.

I always liked the Scorpion clan, personally, because they seemed like their equivalent of the CIA and I am a CIA/Tom Clancy geek.

Don't bother with the cards, just stick to the PNP RPGs, they're the only decent thing about LotFR.

LotFR is originally a pen and paper RPG like Dungeons and Dragons. The CCG came after and is absolutely dull. There is nothing noteworthy about it. If you want a CCG get in to Magic or the WoW CCG.

The PNP, however, is very good if you play with people who really like to Roleplay and craft an interesting character. It'll be shite if you play with power gamers and that is definitely not the goal for LotFR.

I was under the impression that that card game came first. Hmm... ok. I also want to try the RPG.... so... I'll see what I can discover. I already play magic, and find it somewhat simple, and a little too luck based when high lvl players compete...

All card games are based on luck, but if you think Magic is too luck-based with high level players you aren't playing with high level players. Luck is only a big factor with less experienced players.

I'm aware that skill plays a part, but when a perfectly skilled player can get mana or color screwed with a perfectly fine decklist, that's really frustrating. It's why I've backed away from competitive magic into competitive starcraft. In starcraft I can only blame myself, not my luck.

My decks were good, and they lists followed conventions plenty close enough, just when it mattered, I would have really bad draws. Like... unplayable draws, mulligan after mulligan.
