So I'm considering making a character who uses a saber staff and I'm not sure what lightsaber style compliments a double bladed lightsaber. Really quick and easy question to answer I know but thanks a million for your responses.

Ataru is a well used one, but I'm unsure if it would be the best.

Niman is the jack-of-all-trades, and can be used with basically anything.

Juyo was used by Darth Maul, and he killed a Jedi Master.

Jedi- juyo, Niman

Sith-Juyo, Niman, Jar'Kai

That's what I figure (from reading what maul knew)

I would advise going to Cass to be sure.

Djem So can work oddly well, but only when using a single blade. That long hilt can generate a fair amount of leverage, but you'd have to pair it with another form for using both blades.

Soresu might be good, in my opinion. The two blades allow for more coverage, and spinning techniques are sort of a given with a saberstaff.

I just did some research and I know Juyo would work well because that's what maul used. I'm want to make a former Jedi temple guard that fought at the sith invasion of coruscant pre time skip. My only concern is Juyo seems a bit aggressive for a Jedi, but I know there are Jedi who use it.

Mace Windu invented his own version of juyo though, vaapad. Don't know if that is something people would know how to use in rp.

Sora Bulq was a jedi who used juyo, though he did eventually turn to the dark side out of desperation.

Lightsaber forms these days aren't really connected to any particular type of the core three combat styles of single, dual and staff (except jar'kai, obviously), so rather then consider what form would suit the weapon, ask yourself what form would suit the character instead.

Actually, fundamental movements from most Forms won't work with a Saberstaff, and Form Seven is the only one that leave a full repertoire of movements. Ataru comes pretty close, but hey, you can do just about anything with that Form due to its flexibility. So I'd stick with Juyo (more practical than Ataru).

You may feel that Form Seven is passionate, but thats part of the deal. It traditionally is not taught to very many Jedi, as they will typically shy away from passion as a potential route to the darkside. All of these things can also be said of the Sabrestaff, supporting the pretty widely-spread conclusion that the Sabrestaff is reserved for Juyo practitioners. :)

Edit: I do not believe that Jar'Kai has anything to do with the use of the double-blade lightsaber, and refers solely to the use of two separate weapons. Do note, however, that many Sabrestaffs are actually connected lightsabers, and there would likely be a plethora of techniques based on connecting and disconnecting the weapons.

We have all been blessed with her presence. We must follow her laws.

Edit:

While Juyo is a good choice, Vaapad is also quite feasible, as is Niman. It all comes down to how you want to fight.

Rapid movement, twirling, and vicious attacks: Juyo

An wall of lightsaber energy: Vaapad

A calm, but creative style using a lot of Force powers: Niman.

That said, you can kinda interchange them all.

Cassanova would tell you to pick Niman while studying Vaapad, Juyo, and Jar'kai to blend them all together.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Ps, don't use saberstaff in rp unless you try out the motions IRL. In a duel, it's a nightmare if you're not over the top specific with how you write. You have to take into account one end's range of motion while counterbalancing the other. Unless you're a pro at rp dueling with them or you don't ever plan to get into an rp duel with one, save someone the headache and just use two sabers.

Or just use it in conjunction with trakata; one saber at a time and the extended hilt for leverage.

Believe it or not most people write out Form V: Djem So/Shien more then they do actual forms, especially the Fluid Riposte bits followed by Power attacks. If you want to make a logical choice that is what I would roll with, but other then stuff on paper lightsaber forms REALLY don't matter when in combat it typically is operating within your character's limits and just min maxing everything as much as possible.

I did that with Thaed for a bit as I started him off with a saberstaff, and I personally found it tedious. Comes down to patience I guess. :P
