Mia Lightstone
As a child I often thought about how my life would be in a few years and this was not it. Nowhere close to it. Not just me, even my father used to have the same vision of the future for me. Growing up and following in his path, maybe someday replacing him. But visions can be funnily deceptive things, especially when you are a Jedi. Yup, Dad was a Jedi, Jedi Knight Arkon Lightstone. He wasn't the strongest Jedi, a lesser son of greater fathers he used to call himself, but he had a special talent, a very rare talent. He could see shatterpoints, kind of fault lines in our bodies and fates. He could see and influence them and that made him pretty unique.
Come to think of it you could say that even I was a Jedi for a while. At least as long as my father was alive. He raised me and trained me from childhood to be a Jedi. Said he had seen an vision of my future, my future as a great Jedi. He believed in that future, with all his heart and soul, was even willing to bet his life on it. Look how well that turned out. You see, apparently he perceived that I was a shatterpoint that could somehow greatly alter the fate of the galaxy. But he just didn't realize that I was the shatterpoint capable of getting him killed as well. But you can't really overlook things like that forever. When my training was nearing completion, he took me to a lightsaber crystal cave on a god-forsaken backwater planet. There I was to build my lightsaber. After some searching I found myself a beautiful little crystal and began constructing my lightsaber. It was then that things began to go wrong and my life began to unravel.
You see despite having been trained as a jedi I had terrible luck. Something or the other always went wrong. Most times it was something small and insignificant but sometimes things went terribly wrong. And this was one of those times. Having completed my lightsaber I made to leave the cave when it started to cave in. Why that happened still puzzles me. Believe me I spent a long time trying to figure out a logical reason to explain why that happened, not that it mattered. The ceiling began to crumble all around me and despite my best efforts I could not get out. In my fear of death and desperation I started to loose my cool, went bonkers; I was a kid, cut me some slack. Igniting my newly constructed lightsaber I began wildly slashing at the wall and then a number of things happened that are a little hazy to me. A wall suddenly shattered, my father was there in front of me, my hands were swinging around, yes the same hands which held the lightsaber, and the next thing I knew my dad had carried me out of the cave.
We were safe I thought, everything would be all right. Oh I was so wrong. You see my swinging blade had made contact with more than air and rock. It had slashed through my dad as well. I made contact with Coruscant but without treatment, he died in a few hours. In my arms. The Jedi ultimately got there, a little too late. I was taken back to the academy and my dad was given a Jedi funeral. A thorough investigation was carried out into the incident and ultimately my name was cleared. They even came up for a reason for why the cave collapsed. The crystal I had pulled out was kind of like a keystone holding a part of the cave ceiling up. I just happened to pull out the wrong crystal. Bad luck? Didn't Jedi not believe in luck of any sort? I think they just made that up to give me some valid reason. If you ask me it was nothing but my crazy connection with the Force acting up. I mean wasn't the Force guiding my hand when I picked that particular crytal? I know they all knew about my weird connection with the Force, how it often screwed things up for me instead of helping and guiding me. I suppose they thought it was all part of a bigger plan the Force had for me. But I think they probably also knew about my father seeing me as a shatterpoint for a vital event in the future. I guess that and my father had been the only things keeping them from throwing me out of the order. I was too much of a loose cannon as a Jedi. But I had had enough.
I knew my connection to the Force was what was causing all this. The Force somehow had it out for me. My mother died in child-birth, my father died by my own hands trying to save my life, everything in my life somehow ended up getting screwed over by the Force. I made up my mind then, no more listening to the Force, no more Jedi. So I left the order and began making a living for myself, living the life I choose, using the Force as I chose. I no longer took guidance from the Force. It became but a tool for me to use, something I began enforcing my will on. As a result I finally started to get lucky, began making my own luck to be more precise. I traveled to many worlds, making a living as a gambler. Not many people can beat a force-sensitive at pazaak. But they would ultimately realize that I was somehow cheating and I would have to move on. I became a nomad of sorts, always on the move. Finally I had saved up enough to buy my own ship. After that I started to cross lines I never knew I had set for myself and started playing the role of a freighter pilot, a smuggler, a pirate, bodyguard and even assassin. Anything that got me credits and put food on the table. And thats how its been for me till now. I lead a good life, despite its stark contrast to the life I thought I would be leading at this time I am happy. But still, sometimes I can't help but wonder, Would Dad really be proud of the life I was leading? Somehow I don't think he would approve, but its my life to live, is it not? Whatever it may be, this is the life I choose.
INFORMATION
GEAR
Shockstaff, Lightsaber, Blaster Pistol, Verpine Shattergun, Comlink, Datapad.
MELEE COMBAT
A highly skilled melee combatant, Mia's weapon of choice is a collapsible Shockstaff, a weapon made of phrik alloy that makes use of electricity instead of sharp or blunt edges. As such it if perfectly suited for situations when she needs to bring her query in without killing him or her. The weapon's length can be varied from its full staff length to a forearm length stick. It is normally carried around in this form, strapped to Mia's back.
As a former Jedi, she also has in her possession a double-bladed lightsaber which she rarely makes use of. She is trained in the fourth form of lightsaber combat, which makes extensive use of Force assisted acrobatic maneuvers; spinning, jumping and weaving her way through her opponent's defenses. By focusing on the Force and letting it flow deeply throughout her entire physicality, Mia can overcome the physical limitations of her body, her amazing reflexes and agility making her a formidable combatant. Though not a master of the form, she fights with grace and almost eye-blurring speed, using Force-assisted acrobatics and maneuvers to attack her opponents with powerful swings and offensive flourishes, never staying in one place long enough for her opponent to mount a proper counterattack. But she does have weaknesses, though her style of combat is highly effective against single enemies it leaves her open to attacks from multiple opponents. As a result she is vulnerable in open warfare. Also as she never mastered the form she is is not comfortable enough with the from to sustain it for extended periods of time, the fact only being compounded by her skills having become rusty over the years.
SKILLS & STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Besides being an accomplished duelist and hand-to-hand combatant, she is also a skilled slicer and can break into secure systems with relative ease. She also has some experience in using disguises and has a wide range of disguises and aliases that she can call upon. But she is also not without weaknesses. One of the greatest weaknesses of Ataru is that it is highly taxing and is difficult to use for extended periods of time. Also the size and nature of her double-bladed lightsaber and her shockstaff (in its fully extended form) place limitations on the number of usable techniques as many positions and movements are impossible to execute, or require her to twist herself awkwardly around the weapons to do so. She also stubbornly refuses to take any guidance from the Force, seeing it as just a tool and thus often getting into situations that she could have avoided by letting the Force guide her. She can also be impulsive and a little hot-headed at times, letting her emotions get the better of her.
SHIP:
Crimson Princess: An Orion class light Freighter, was bought by Mia years ago and has been heavily modified from its original configuration. Not a particularly large ship, it possesses very good speed and decent shields. Initially requiring a three man crew, it now can be flown by just one pilot. Has a cargo capacity of around 100 metric tons and can hold consumables for around 4 months.
