Would like there to be weekly update or Dev Diary on new features of the NTL. As it is, we haven't had an update on the progress since Jan 21, which was 17 days ago. A quip on faction ranks, faction tech (like Republic capital ships and fighters, and their Jedi and Sith counterparts), details about the Independent Faction Guidelines or progress thereto, ideas nearly set in stone about expanding into new grid squares and the mechanics of faction warfare, any ideas no matter how theoretical about the economic system, etc. etc. all of those would be nice even to sustain the hype. As it is, the lack of updates on this leaves the community wondering about the progress, and bleeding our excitement.
Everything is still being finalized, but they're just about done.

I got a question about saber styles, and I don,t know if it's an "old" question in these 41 pages:
Are the old rules still "true"? If I build a sith he will use the shii cho? A jedi knight will use still one form?

Good! And there will be limits in these forms learning?

It's all just sprinkles and food-coloring. You could know all seven forms and invent a few more, and it still would have no real impact in a fight. Now, this is not to say everyone's justified in making themselves mini Jedi Battlemasters, but forms are just flavor; for some, they even tailor their methods of RP fighting to reflect it, but it doesn't carry any practical weight in a battle.

yeah, probably you're right, but I think knowing what fight style a pc uses, can help to understand how that pc usually moves in battle.

It can, but that only works if the RPer actually fights in the manner their style entails. For example, Form V: Shien/Djem So is very grounded and sturdy, but you could have an RPer make their Jedi fight like they use the extremely acrobatic Ataru form. Or you could have someone with the dueling-specific Makashi (a lot of technique in this form) fighting with about as much finesse as a guy fighting with a baseball bat.

It's fun when people RP their dueling style, but it'd probably be more effective to judge their style while fighting them, or observing them fighting, both from an IC and an OOC perspective.

In fact, look at Darth Vader. He actually took elements from all seven forms, combining them to make a style all his own. In a sense, like Kendo is the base ingredient for the Lightsaber forms, The lightsaber forms are the base ingredients to combine into a style that is all their own. In fact it is actually interesting and shows elements of a character when you notice that their fighting style is a combination of the seven forms. For example: in one of my characters cases his lightsaber combat style has Form V as the base with elements of Ataru (acrobatics), Shii-Cho (Dealing with various opponents), Soresu (defensive combat), and Makashi (blade control and enhanced dueling) incorporated into it. The idea is the forms should be, imo, the base ingredient with the character/player creating a style tailored to their preferences...it adds character :D

Lightsaber Forms is one of the silliest and most pointless things Star Wars has ever invented, in my humble and personal opinion. And as has been stated before, they're completely useless and have no bearing on a fight on SWRP. Here, it's all about writing skills. Sure, you can mention it as fluff, but as said, it has no practical application. You're just as well off just ignoring them completely.

Granted, but it does, again add depth to a character imo.

If you treat them for what they are - extraneous fluff to add another facet to your character - then yeah, I agree with you. Of course if that's your intention then I'd strongly suggest just picking one form that suits your character best. Like...next timeline we won't really have much to say on lightsaber forms from an admin perspective because it's pointless and we don't really care if you list 84 different forms as mastered, but it does make you look silly to use even more than one IMHO.

Realistically, knowing a whole bunch of lightsaber forms shouldn't matter. In real world martial arts the skill of a fighter has less to do with how much he knows but rather how well he knows what he does know. In the famous words of Bruce Lee: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times." A master of a single form can improve their skills in that form to get rid of any weaknesses the said form may have and use it to the ability of a man that has learned 7 or 20 or 100 forms. That's why I plan on having my character begin to go about the route of trying to learn all seven forms before retreating back into focusing on form II when he realizes how needless it is to learn so many fighting styles. A single style honed to perfection is better than several that are pretty good, and realistically if one is able to hone all seven forms to perfection then they either have to much time on their hands or really don't need the forms in the first place.

I'm creating a whole new form for my Jedi Knight to have. While I want to add character depth for the fluff side, it's mostly because I was bored and did it for fun.

My Jedi will be using Spanish Tercio Sword and Buckler style fighting techniques.. Without the buckler. I will avoid mentioning forms as I have only ever seen them as "defensive stance, blaster defense stance, aggressive, and dueling" any more detail than that and you get killed trying to play to forms that have no real fighting merit. Adopt a real fighting style like German longsword, i33 sword and buckler, etc. Plenty out there. @Topher Ridge had a Sith that used some African martial art as his inspiration and it was cool. Made it a Nautolan Martial Arts if I remember right.

Yo figured I'd chime in. It was actually capoeira which originated in Brazil.

I'd agree with @Bauren about watching what style you use, as trying to use form IV in actual pvp proved difficult as alot of the moves leave you wide open if your opponent actually knows anything about actual swordplay or martial arts.

A thought just popped into my head...how BIG is the change on the 21st going to be? is it like the whole format of the site going to change or is it just basically going to be the same just the title and alot of stuff removed and so forth?
