Really looking forward to regressing 25 years on abortion, civil rights, LBGT rights, etc.

God this is depressing.

not to mention Citizens United will never be overturned

if the LGBT decision is somehow reversed (prolly won't be, ik, but just in case), I'm literally going to Washington to continuously pimpslap Trump for a living

I'm not sure it'll be that bad. Sure, Trump and most Republicans are solidly against these social issues, I doubt their constituents feel the same way, and that politicians are willing to risk losing voters by overturning civil rights decisions.

Ya I'm Pro-Life.

Really I just want the Justices to be Pro-Life and protect my second amendment.

Great. Be pro-life. But lemme know when you're forced to have an abortion, then we'll talk.

I'm confused. Pro-Life means no abortion, so in a perfect world no one would be forced to have an abortion nor would want an abortion.

Our military will be expanded and grown.

It's gonna be great.

So we can spend another trillion and a half developing another plane that doesn't work while there are hundreds of acres of land devoted to keeping vast fleets of mothballed planes because we have no use for them? I mean, I'm all for a strong military, but the way we go about it is asinine.

Except we don't live in a perfect world. We live in an imperfect world full of imperfect people living imperfect lives. And, unfortunately, that means people will sometimes need abortions.

Yes let's just kill babies because it's an inconvenience to you.

If anything, increasing access and resources towards abortion and its related fields will decrease it. And by that, I mean, providing contraceptives and education towards women concerning fertility and unprotected intimacy, the issues concerning it (aka Planned Parenthood, the organization doing its damndest to actually stop abortions from ever being needed), etc etc, while still maintaining the right for people who feel they have no other choice. Making abortion illegal would just create dark ages style abortion clinics that do it behind the scenes, and cause further unrest and danger to women.

There are women who will be raped who won't have the ability to choose what happens to their own body afterwards should roe v wade be overturned. 9 months of pregnancy isn't a walk in the park.

Edit, just one more thing, a paraphrase of something George Carlin once said during an act. Conservatives seem to care all about you while you're still a fetus, but the moment you pop out of the womb you're on your own lol.

Well, this has certainly been an interesting year to turn 18 in. All I will say is that Trump, dependent on Congress and the rest of his administration, has just as much a chance of doing some good as he does being ineffectual or worse yet, screw us even worse than we already are.

As for if any rights policy decisions will be overridden, that remains to be seen. But I wouldn't be surprised if Trump ended up with riots and protests on his hands if that happened.

I find it absolutely terrifying that a man whose campaign relied on exploiting the fear and hatred of his (mostly white) audience has successfully wormed his way into office. Regardless of what his presidency is like, speaking from my position as someone who has lived outside the US for nearly ten years now, the people here at least are horrified but not at all surprised at the choice of the American people. I think it is indicative of so many deep-rooted problems in American society - not the least of which is the terrible system that the Founding Fathers came up with to choose the head of the nation. This is the second time this century that the popular vote has lost.

I've never voted over here in the UK (too young for a start), but hearing "trump is president" this morning was the same kind of shock as brexit was for me. Whilst I haven't particularly agreed with either of those results, I hope y'all in America don't have too rough of a time in the next 4 years.

I like how people are painting this in the way of only whites are welcome in America now. Saying things like females, blacks, Hispanics, Muslims and Gays are all swept under the rug. I find it a very dull outlook. As if only white males where responsible for Trumps election. It completely disregards all of his minorities and women who did vote for Trump.

It's rather sad and kinda pathetic that many people are saying Trump was elected because of racist white men who only care for their "old" America.

Well, the way I see it there are three possibilities.

  1. Either Donald Trump simmers the hell down or Anti-Trump Republicans team up with Democrats in Congress to slow down Trump, bringing his reign of crazy down to 0 years
  2. The Democrats win the next Congressional Election in 2018, and use their majority to stall the government, bringing it to two years of unrestrained Trump.
  3. Or, the Republicans maintain their advantage and we get four glorious years of utter uncertainty.
