Deliberately killing an endangered species isn't the worst of crimes. Giving someone as long as 12 years for it puts said endangered species (dependent on the case) on par with some humans, and above others. That's crazy.

I have no experience in how the courts/jury/whatever came up with that figure. The point is, the guy spent 12 years in prison for a crime, regardless of what other people think of the sentence.

There are two things you cannot do in the United States, or you will be punished WAY beyond the norm for other countries. Steal money (even from people who don't give a **** because they're rich as ****), and killing eagles. It's their symbol, man! The eagle!

It may be "Just a bird" to you, but it means alot more to us then you prolly think. I think murdering an animal is just as bad a murdering a human being. The poacher got what he deserved, IMO.

I don't remember the guy's name, but he got like 40 years or something for stealing a couple grand from a few people he did odd construction jobs for, and they never noticed, nor cared. He harmed no one, but was sentenced to prison for an objectionable amount of years.

I'd consider fiscal evasion a form of theft, and every rich person does it.

Meh, I dont think that he should have gotten any jail time at all for that. A fine for doing it sure, even if he did it on purpose, I still wouldnt support jail time for something so rediculous as this. Its a bird, national symbol or not, its a bloody bird.
