They're an endangered species.
I understand that completely; but I think with those endangered species laws they have to put in two seperate cases "Acciedental" and "Malicious Intent." The guy wasn't planning on killing them and i'm sure he didn't enjoy it, five to six years would have been fine in his case. Has anyone found what how much more time he had if he hadn't been pardoned?

I wasn't referring to whether or not this cause was accidental or not. I'm just saying that that's why there is a high sentence.

Oh okay, my bad.

But even so I think what I posted above should be put into law.

If anyone here thinks 12+ years is ridiculous for something like this, someone probably tried appealing for a less severe sentence and did not get a satisfactory result.

Honestly, I feel the punishment is fine if you kill a country's symbol animal.

On purpose yes, I said 5-6 years for him because he used illegal pesticides, if it is completely accidental with no foul play then no.

well if you accidently killed a man, your still charged with man slaughter, right? The fact that it's accidental really shouldn't tip the scale at all, since because he used illigal pesticides.

That doesn't sound like I wanted it to, but do you get what I am saying?

Manslaughter is less sever than Murder though, so your point is invalid.

He didn't kill a man though, he killed a bird and being in jail for 12 year for killing a bird is outrageous.

Unless I missed something, isn't manslaughter the same thing as murder?

I know he killed a bird, and not a man. It wasn't just any bird though, its kinda the symbol of America. One of them anyway. It could easily be seen as defacing America and killing a figure head (kinda) to the country. Never mind the fact it's a bird. Besides, aren't they endangered, at that?

Manslaughter is considered less sever. It's the heat of the moment killing. Whilst murder requires intention before hand. Then there's accidental manslaughter, where the intention to kill wasn't there, but an intentional disregard for life was.

You rarely get 12 years for manslaughter of a man, why is a bird more important?

I understand purposely hunting them, as they're endangered and the national symbol. But for an accident? That's just ridiculous.

Read the post above yours. For the second time, I wasn't referring to the specifics of this case.

Looked it up the actual charge name is Involuntary Manslaughter. So yeah Nexus FTW.

And I am not defending this man entirely. Yeah he used illegal pesticide which he has been punished for; but he did not intend to kill a the eagles, I think he has served enough time to atone for his crime.

the bird is a symbol of America, never mind the fact of it being endangered. Man kind is neither endangered (some would even argue there is too much of us), but it all depends on WHO you killed. Some random asshole probably won't get you 12 years, but try someone with political importance. You'd probably get life, if not a death sentence.

I don't see why I should read up the whole story before making wild accusations.
