I would be remiss if I didn't also mention...

- Federal ENDA protections are still needed
- Housing discrimination is still legal in many states
- Adoptions are not legal everywhere
- Gay conversation therapy is still legal in many states
- Giving blood still has restrictions because of AIDS fears
- Transgender issues, discrimination, etc are still rampant

Marriage equality is hugely important, and it's been the most public LGBT issue, but there's still a lot more fights to be had in the push for equality. This doesn't end today. It just takes shape in a different way.

These would be some of those things I mentioned left to combat

Well... cool. Now that the US has caught up, we can move on to some other issues. Also, its legal. Thats not going to stop the beatings and discrimination.

Some governors and stuff and claiming that its an attack on freedom of religion, which is silly. all your doing is saying that people can now legally be married. you dont have to go to the ceremony or anything. seriously.

Convenient that those dissenters forget about the 14th Amendment: "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Fantastic decision by the Supreme Court.

Yea, this made me smile like a goat on LSD this morning when I saw the news.
I wish to know what this is like. I have goats, but I don't know if they run long, slow distance.

One step at a time. Now that marriage is out of the way, we can focus on the other fronts.

I have not done any research about this next particular statement, but it is something I heard and was curious if there was any truth to it. So, the reason I heard that a lot of religious groups are unhappy about this is because Christian colleges (such as Notre Dame) are now forced to have special housing and accommodations for gay students. Like I said, I am not sure but this is what I heard.

If, by special housing and accommodations, you mean letting married gay couples live in married housing units and, y'know, be gay on campus, I guess they might.

But it took 16 years to get from Loving to Bob Jones, so it's not like today's decision forces this on them right away. Especially not when there will be tons of handwringing about forcing churches to marry teh gays. I dunno if anyone was freaking out about forcing churches to marry interracial individuals in 1983.

MY family would be at the 50th celebration for the gay pride group since it was started, though we didn't realize it was happening we are going to be there to see people going crazy, I was really glad to hear about it, even my girlfriend was super happy when she hear it. Though America has had many problems this was a good step forward and cant wait to see what happens next.

Now the next big thing, how many more republicans are going to try to run for office? The last I counted it was like 4 or more right?

It's about time that gay marriage is made legal, I've been pushing for this for a while as I feel that it's something that's been needed in the country. Many Conservatives fear that with gay marriage may arise a future problem of gays requesting that they be married within religious institutions--though I feel this will likely not happen.

While we can agree that most people are excited with the news of this groundbreaking rule, I don't want to see this turn into an attack of stripping religious establishment's rights to restrict marriages in their churches or religious establishments, just my thoughts.

(Which like I said I don't think will happen, but if it does we should still respect their rights.)

Honestly i wouldn't mind if all marriages ceased along with the benefits to such a decision. In my opinion you shouldn't need to have a piece of paper to define your love. But, I see the one true reasoning of having yourself bound legally to a person--to help keep things civil and for the sake of the court through divorce rulings, because let's face it, money is involved.

Yet, we could get into a whole sociological discussion on dyads and the social implementations that help keep these fragile groups in place.
