"Perhaps nothing that I worked on was more disdained by the Empress than the abomination program."

Formerly-human abominations instilled fear in the ranks of humanoid armies.
Sith abominations, also known as Sithspawn, Sithbominations, ghouls, and boogeymen (in some parts of the Outer Rim) were a type of creature created through use of the dark side of the Force. The process through which abominations were created was initially pioneered by the Sith Exiles, warlords who had deserted from the Jedi Order and were the first dark siders to organize into a faction in the Outer Rim, but the practice was all but lost as the warlords all perished at the hands of Sith of the burgeoning Empire. Darth Kravos, along with Andraste, discovered the ritual and Kravos, alongside Darth Evandrus, created the first Sith abominations since the days of the warlords. The practice faded away with his death, and the only known artifact in the Galaxy containing its knowledge is Darth Kravos' holocron, currently in the possession of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Raze.

Abominations are created through the remolding of a lifeform's biological makeup and can be performed on any manner of creature so long as it has a brain, though to varying success. Some species are more well-suited for the process--generally those that possess great amounts of raw strength or power within the Force, which ensures their survival through the ritual--and others can be a complete waste--such as fish. A fish abomination can hardly intimidate let alone kill someone.

Creating abominations was a delicate and intensive craft that required a powerful connection with the dark side.
The Pureblood Sith from Korriban were among the first beings to be turned into abominations, with the Exiles using them as soldiers to support their massive conquest efforts. The Tuk'ata were the first non-sentient species to be used as test subjects, and the Exiles found rather quickly that any species with an innate tendency toward brutality make the best abominations.

Some are intelligent, possessing sentience akin to that of a civilized creature. Others are driven by primal instinct and thirst for blood and cannot understand any method of communication besides their creator's telepathy. Despite some of the abomination's apparent sentience, they are all tied to their creator through a bond that is broken only by the Sith's death, which results in the abominations being emancipated.

"The larger the beast, the more power required, but even the most simple of them are difficult to create and maintain. Twisting it into a monster that can kill is easier than making something you can control. You have to imprint on their mind, like a mother animal. They'll follow an Alpha, the strongest among them, but if you lose control, they'll be as dangerous to you as your enemy."
--Darth Kravos' holocron.

The process is quite simple if one possesses the power needed, and the ritual can make even the strongest of Sith Lords fail without a proper understanding. Sorcerers are favored when it comes to creating abominations, as their abilities are more well-suited and their knowledge of the dark arts make them perfect candidates for the taxing endeavor. However, it is possible for a powerful Sith to attempt and perhaps succeed, so long as they are indeed immensely powerful.

Here is an orc turned into an abomination. To be noted are the tusks, which it retained. This is an example of the selective creation of Sithspawn.
It's relatively straight forward; the practitioner must gather the Force to themselves and clear their mind, amassing as much energy as they can. Then, they point their palms at the intended victim and begin to shape and mold their bodies, restructuring bones and organs, melting and drying flesh, and imbuing the dark side within the creature. Resulting is a Sith abomination, and they vary just as much as different species do--some possess a savagery that is enhanced by the Force, turning them into unyielding beasts that will fight to the death, while others are fast and slick, with the ability to slink among the shadows and strike when their opponents least expect it. The possible variety--aside from the body horror--is one of the most fearsome aspects of the abominations, as they could quite literally end up in any way possible. The ritual can be made easier with the use of a Sith mutagenic formula or artifact.

The practice is known mostly in legends, though it has had some representation in pop culture through holonet films and the phrase "Sithspawn" is used as a curse on Corellia. Additionally, due to the heavy influence that the Exile conquest had over many worlds in the Outer Rim, legends of abomination-like creatures have sprouted up, becoming engrained deeply within their culture in fairy tales and superstitions.

Limitations

Rogue abominations were not unheard of, and prowled the Galaxy millennia ago, where they may still be laying dormant.
Creating abominations is a task that requires power within the Force, a deep connection with the dark side, and also a deep understanding of the dark side and the ways that it can be used. Once one knows the process, they can attempt to create abominations, but the first few are always failures, as it takes time to get used to molding the body and dulling or enhancing their mind. The abominations then treat their creator as an alpha, but if their willpower falters, the Sith can find themselves overcome by their creatures and killed.

Intent

To provide Sith sorcerers & others with a new and unique ritual and to flesh out the details of a practice that has been on the site since the days of Andraste. This also opens the door to a whole bunch of new RP opportunities, from exploring ancient dungeons crawling with abominations (Skyrim-style) or having more cultural details to mention when dealing with Outer Rim worlds. Credits to @Phoenix for Darth Kravos' holocron.
