"Perhaps nothing that I worked on was more disdained by the Empress than the abomination program."
--Darth Kravos, in a recording stored within his holocron.
Description
Formerly-human abominations instilled fear in the ranks of humanoid armies.
Abominations are created through the remolding of a lifeform's biological makeup and can be performed on any manner of creature so long as it has a brain, though to varying success. Some species are more well-suited for the process--generally those that possess great amounts of raw strength or power within the Force, which ensures their survival through the ritual--and others can be a complete waste--such as fish. A fish abomination can hardly intimidate let alone kill someone.
Creating abominations was a delicate and intensive craft that required a powerful connection with the dark side.
Some are intelligent, possessing sentience akin to that of a civilized creature. Others are driven by primal instinct and thirst for blood and cannot understand any method of communication besides their creator's telepathy. Despite some of the abomination's apparent sentience, they are all tied to their creator through a bond that is broken only by the Sith's death, which results in the abominations being emancipated.
"The larger the beast, the more power required, but even the most simple of them are difficult to create and maintain. Twisting it into a monster that can kill is easier than making something you can control. You have to imprint on their mind, like a mother animal. They'll follow an Alpha, the strongest among them, but if you lose control, they'll be as dangerous to you as your enemy."

The process is quite simple if one possesses the power needed, and the ritual can make even the strongest of Sith Lords fail without a proper understanding. Sorcerers are favored when it comes to creating abominations, as their abilities are more well-suited and their knowledge of the dark arts make them perfect candidates for the taxing endeavor. However, it is possible for a powerful Sith to attempt and perhaps succeed, so long as they are indeed immensely powerful.
Here is an orc turned into an abomination. To be noted are the tusks, which it retained. This is an example of the selective creation of Sithspawn.
The practice is known mostly in legends, though it has had some representation in pop culture through holonet films and the phrase "Sithspawn" is used as a curse on Corellia. Additionally, due to the heavy influence that the Exile conquest had over many worlds in the Outer Rim, legends of abomination-like creatures have sprouted up, becoming engrained deeply within their culture in fairy tales and superstitions.
Limitations
Rogue abominations were not unheard of, and prowled the Galaxy millennia ago, where they may still be laying dormant.
Intent
To provide Sith sorcerers & others with a new and unique ritual and to flesh out the details of a practice that has been on the site since the days of Andraste. This also opens the door to a whole bunch of new RP opportunities, from exploring ancient dungeons crawling with abominations (Skyrim-style) or having more cultural details to mention when dealing with Outer Rim worlds. Credits to @Phoenix for Darth Kravos' holocron.
