Reviews are starting to come in for Star Wars Rebels (I'll have mine up today or tomorrow). I wanted to share one in particular:

Especially read the last two paragraphs. Legitimately epic.

I felt that it stayed very true to the original spirit of the first three movies, but the dialogue was somewhat... disappointing. It was good, could have been better, but it made me excited to see more which hasn't happened with anything Star Wars in a good long while.

So... so far so good. We'll see where they go from here, but I remain optimistic.

The dialogue in the first half could've been much better. I commented on that in my review:

The first half of the forty-minute premiere was probably the weakest point. It's unfortunately filled with more exposition than was probably needed. Simon Kinberg, the writer of the premiere and one of the show's executive producers, recently said that writing for a television series, with a condensed amount of time, was a new experience for him. On that front, the inexperience shows. I thought he could have done a more effective job setting things up than having the characters talk with what was often clunky dialogue, but Kinberg hit his groove in the far-superior second half. Once the crew embarks on their mission, the premiere shines.

I also saw another episode, "Rise of the Old Masters," and the dialogue was much better there too.

Fully agree. I felt that perhaps they should have stuck with a "less is more" approach in the first half because it worked for them in the second half.

I'm glad to hear that the other episode was much better in the way of the dialogue.

Was it the second episode or one further down the road?

It was the fourth episode. After Spark of Rebellion (the premiere), there's Droids in Distress and then Fighter Flight. After that is Rise of the Old Masters. It started to deal with the fact that Kanan is scarred as a survivor of Order 66.

Good as far as first episodes go. Couple headscratching moments for me that I hope get ironed out or won't crop up too often in the show's future.

I'm on the East Coast, and I fairly enjoyed the premier. I did note some strong points and some weak points, but overall I liked the show.

I turned it off 15 minutes in out of disgust.

Buuuut, I've heard that it gets better like halfway in, so I'll find some illegal means to watch it again.

... unless there's a legal means to watch it online.

WatchDisneyXD, if you live in the States and have an appropriate cable provider

Just finished watching this out of boredom (working midnights with a rare night off does that to you). Surprisingly good. The first twenty minutes or so was pretty bad, filled with cliches and really awful action. That comment about there not actually being any peril is dead on, everything just seemed... easy. But it steadily got better, and by the end I decided that I want to watch more. It's good to see Disney shaking things up a bit, and although there are problems most of them are to do with it being a kids' show, so you can't really fault them for the silly jokes and dumb-looking characters.

EDIT: Just read Bac's review. What the heck, dude? "Mild spoilers", huh?

"I won't give much more away, but I will say that even if you are skeptical, you should watch this show."

Besides actually reciting the plot verbatim, you pretty much already spoiled all of the surprises.

One of my main contentions with this series and the franchise for awhile now, has been it's mishandling of original trilogy characters, a holdover from both the EU and decisions made by Lucas in the "main canon" of the films. The reasons for this should be obvious, but an additional reason for my desire to see them stop doing this, is because I want them to just move the **** on and stop relying on fan service to accomplish their goals. It lessens the credibility of the writing and it lessens my interest in their creative decision making.

Including Darth Vader in this series is a problem for me, unless it's in an extremely limited capacity.

That being said, I still haven't brought myself to catching an episode of the series yet, hopefully I will soon and then eventually I'll get around to voicing my thoughts/criticisms or whatever.

Darth Vader will make sense eventually. We know by Episode IV that he's obsessed with finding the rebels, and has been searching for them. It makes sense that he'd have some sort of presence the closer we get to Episode IV.

I have no idea what this would be, though. Perhaps it's giving the Inquisitor orders or something. I also wonder if that reporter is misinterpreting this information, and Vader's appearance is actually in a future episode that will air on ABC.

A Darth Vader cameo would be perfect at the end, when they're all at the tower where Ezra lives. He feebly knocks on the door and asks if anyone knows the way to "Lando's Space Disco" because he doesn't want to miss Captain EO's performance. Captain EO is the lead singer of an underground band called "The Ragtags" and they travel the galaxy playing local bohemian venues. Darth Vader doesn't care much for EO's musical style but he does see promise in one of the band members, Max Rebo, who he thinks would have a great solo career.
