Essentially, I'm just choosing to parry your jab instead of your block, which are both on the same side. The blades locking would literally happen for a minuscule amount of time, so it's not like we're engaging in a battle of wits and strength. My saber is parrying your blows in one fluid motion, and I'm using my free hand to do something that's muscle memory for any trained soldier.

But you can't do that if I've made contact with the blade of your weapon. You don't have the luxury of choosing which blade comes in contact with your weapon, when I'm the one who made contact first.

And as far as your shooting goes, yes, it's muscle memory for a trained soldier, but we're Sith, locked in melee, and you're wide open on one side with another blade inches from your gut, you're not gonna get that gun out of it's holster in time to make it count.

@christhebarker

There are several issues with your defense.

1. You cannot simply call upon some hidden powers to give you strength in a moment of need. Unfortunately, this is not a cinematic PvP thread, there are no external sources available at your aid. Your limitations to mount a defense are based on your character's current condition and the situation in play.

2. While force barrier is a viable defense, your barrier is not strong enough to ward off against Arianna's force fire considering she is a level stronger as well as Zarya is debilitated and in pain. The attack was timed to completion of Zarya's slash on Harren, so frankly, there is not enough time for her to prepare a force defense unless she utilizes a reflective power in which case that would be even more taxing.

3. You're not taking any damage and your warding off an attack with an ability that would likely cause force exhaustion; afterwards, you are merely grabbing a second saber and preparing as if nothing happened.

Unfortunately, this defense is not acceptable for the aforementioned reasons. I think Zarya should be susceptible to moderate burn damage as well as be in a severely debilitated/force exhaustion stage after using force barrier and telekinesis to divert the flames.

@vamp @Gian Greydragon @Denzein

okay I'm willing to take damage but I don't agree that it would be medium, also what is the size of the jet of flames and where is it aimed to know what areas might be affected.

I appreciate your offer to compromise but you have to be realistic in this. You are underplaying Zarya's limitations in this scenario. She is already debilitated and in pain; the ability to put up a force barrier wont be instantaneous and she has to take some damage from the flames.

Additionally, as the force barrier wanes there has to be a component of force exhaustion associated with it as I cannot see that Zarya would simply be able to defend against Force Fire and then still be able to be prepared for combat.

Good afternoon Chris,

I really appreciate you being considerate and making edits; while they do address some of my issues, there are some things which remain including whether a character can channel rage/pain to augment their powers in a PvP defense. Also, given the amount of injuries that Zarya would sustain and the taxing nature of Force barrier, I believe her fatigue level should be higher than just being tired.

In either case, we'll keep this pleasant however I have requested an official ruling on this defense so that we can get some answers for our concerns.

Sorry for the delay!

So, Loco had ruled previously Zarya had received a debilitating injury which will impact her ability to continue fighting, this is also going to impact defences, nevertheless, it is not impossible but there will be consequences to this outcome. In addition, Marris' attack was above her level, given as per the write-up:

More powerful Force users can generate jets of flames from their fingertips.

A useful technique, it is not without its drawbacks. While fairly easy to use in its lesser applications, the stronger variants of Force fire require a large reserve of Force energy. Twisting the Force to create flames from nothing is an exhausting process which can only be achieved in bursts (much like Force lightning), rather than long, continuous streams.

Marris, in order to conjure a flame that powerful is going to have some serious drawbacks, given this power starts at level 2, I would expect it to be less exhausting with levels 3s and 4s.

Ruling: Zarya @christhebarker is successful in generating her Force Barrier, but it isn't strong enough to protect her entirely from the flames and receives extensive burns on her arms, face and torso. The extent of this additional injury in addition to her previous injury from this fight, and utilizing a barrier has exhausted Zarya to the point of being knocked out (KO'd). As for Marris @Faded Truth, given this is an exhausting power to perform and at the extent at which she has performed it will also exhaust Marris to the point of being unconscious. Thus, Zarya and Marris are knocked out and no longer in the fight.

As always, this ruling is final.

@vamp @Gian Greydragon don't let your characters trip over their bodies!

"as his opponent pivoted to his left"

As in, Wes pivoted to his own left, not Niishi's left. Also, I doubt Niishi would be able to lift his foot and step forward and pivot to sweep his tail. He could maybe shake his hips to sweep his tail, but stepping forward while Wes is almost done pivoting is pretty difficult, since he'd have to do it extremely fast and I don't think a 400 lbs Barabel can move that fast.

You're the first to say anything about his agility. I'll make some edits .

Now that I look at his height, I just realized he's practically tall enough for Wes to duck under his tail tbh LOL

My post where Wes tried to cut him from the lower chest to the upper back would be more around the upper thigh probably. It's okay though, you can just parry or something and we'll go from there. (Do remove the tail sweep though)

The tail is describe to be slung across the floor. Nevertheless, I've edited to account for the appropriate directions, and gave further clarification on justifying the tail sweep.

I mean, I'm not completely opposed to the tail sweep—you can definitely do it, but you'd be vulnerable to the slash. Basically, think of it this way:

Wes using the pivot to avoid the jab.
Niishi is rotating his body to his 10 o'clock to cause his tail to swing from 6 to 3 o'clock (or so)
Then, in the blink of an eye, he's rotating his body so that his front rotates from 10 o'clock to 3 o'clock for the jab

He'd be able to swing his tail in time, but that would lead to him getting cut, whether it's happening as Wes falls or before. Best case scenario, his legs would get cut on Wes' way down

Oh also,

Agreement between both parties have been made stating that the downed combatants will be allowed to survive. This was discussed and agreed via Discord, but am making it official here.

Are tails autonomous appendages or do they need to be moved by the torso?

For lizards, they usually need to be moved by the torso.
That's what he's doing. And I think you're down playing the movement a good bit. You're already so close to his tail moving past Niish, it's a short movement as is.

Maybe he moves fast, but it's impossible for him to be moving fast enough. He'd have to rotate his whole body around to avoid a flick of the wrist
