BREAKING NEWS!
Disturbing images from Mon Cala have begun to surface today, following the planet's largest terroristic attack in known history. It began as an assault led by Gareth Gin, one of the known vigilante killers of Durr the Hutt. Gareth led a force of marauders on a killing spree throughout Day City's spaceport during the Mon Cala Harvest Festival, one of the busiest travel days of the year. Dozens of civilians were killed in the crossfire.
As police rushed to this horrific scene, violence escalated. An unknown assassin shot and killed Admiral Treon Munty, a veteran of the Mon Cala Civil War and the unofficial leader of Mon Cala since the King entered into a coma. Along with Admiral Munty, several other officers of Mon Cala's High Command were killed in the crossfire, effectively decimating the civilian and military leadership of the watery world.
Following this attack, further assailants dumped nearly one million gallons of 3-dioxyl-methylmercury 2-polychlorilbipropylene, an industrial solvent used in a variety of manufacturing applications into Mon Cala's oceans. The solvent is incredibly toxic to marine life; the initial poisoning destroyed the organic architecture of several deep-sea cities of Mon Cala. As authorities have not been able to excavate much of the damage, the death toll is still unknown. However, it is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands - perhaps even the millions.
What was the cause for this violence? Mon Cala authorities say the Syndicates were provoked to attack by an anti-Syndicate legislation penned by Commander Jal Widase, a strategist for Mon Cala's Navy. Caught between a war with the Sith and a growing organized crime presence, however, police were short-staffed and the military was criticized for its sluggish response. Widase, now, has been demoted to Lieutenant - he declined to comment to the Taanab Chronicle. Without firm leadership on Mon Cala, any hope the legislation had in making it to the Galactic Senate has now died.
Mon Cala has been silent in the aftermath of this attack. Their borders have been closed and media presence has been disallowed. That was until today, when Dac City hosted its first press conference since the violent attack. Interim leader of Mon Cala's Planetary Defense, Colonel Brefhep Jaggus, spoke to a crowd of press beneath the shattered remains of the High Council. In his speech, he lamented the terrorist attack on the planet, and called into question the weak leadership of the Free Worlds Alliance. Watch this excerpt below!
"For too long, the proud people of Mon Cala have been subject to the barely functioning government of the Free Worlds and the Galactic Senate. What should be a forum for productive trade and cooperation has been hijacked by war hawks and extremists, eager to push their illicit war against the Sith Empire. This position left us vulnerable - we were caught between the war with the Sith, and the violence of those despicable criminals of the Syndicates. That changes today. No more lives will be lost for a foreign war, and we will return to a peaceable, prosperous nation."
"Today, Mon Cala announces its exit from the Free Worlds Alliance and the Galactic Senate. We will no longer be party to this war with the Sith, and we will seek amnesty with the Sith Empire and the Jedi Order to remain a neutral party in their conflict. Empress Andruil, we have no quarrel with your Empire. Grandmaster Voran, we want no war with your Jedi. We, the people of Mon Cala, seek peace and prosperity. Nothing more."
With Mon Cala out of the Free Worlds Alliance, what happens next? Will the world join the Sith Empire? Have they abandoned their neighbors and allies, Lothal and New Alderaan?
