Well, here's an idea. If thou were to play a god, what kind of god would you be? What kind of minions would you create? Let's put the kick into kickstart for the Diverse board, and try this out. Here's the concept:
'In the beginning, there was nothing. For there can be nothing before the beginning. But then, Father Time came to exist, and the flow of time began. For many eons, Father Time roamed the empty void, contemplating the universe. And as these thoughts came to his mind, and he understood them, they came to be. And so, with Father Time's passing, the universe was made, piece by piece, like a jigsaw puzzle.'
'And so it came to pass that eventually Father Time's thoughts bred an idea of other like him, children of his own, and they came to be. And Father Time was overjoyed, and created a seperate realm wherein they could be safe and loved, and he placed his children in this Dreamscape, and there he stayed to raise his children.
'After many years, the Dreamscape was now no longer safe for Father Time and his children, for it had been only a temporary solution. And Father Time deemed that it was time that his children go forth and have their own children and make their own worlds. And so he gave thought to a perfect place, a blank canvas for which his children could grow and live together. And so he called his children together, and showed them this Earth, and he spoke to them:
'My dearest children, you have come of age wonderfully, and now I give to you a gift: Earth. You will go down to this Earth and there you will parent your own creations, like I have done to you, and you will know the true joy I know. However, before you go, you must speak to me of what you will do with this gift, and then and only then may you go to Earth. When you are ready, return to me, and speak to me of what it is you will do.'
Forgive the poor quality of the writing, it's fairly rushed. Basically, the idea is that the world is a blank canvas for these gods. They decide what it is they will contribute to the world, and that becomes their 'main' domain. They can still effect other areas, just not to the same extent as if it was their main domain. Species the gods create are seperate to this, and don't necessarily have to reflect the God's own domain, but it should reflect their personality. And it still needs to abide by the laws of nature, for a pinch of realism. Also, I don't see why magic shouldn't be a part of this world either.
Humans will already exist, albeit in primitive tribal states, as a gift from Father Time. They can become devoted to your god, and will also mimic your created race in minor ways, but they still need the the basics, like wood for housing, open ground for crops etc. so there may be some tension there. Also keep such needs in mind when you are creating your own created races.
Gods have a number of rules in which they must abide by, or cease to exist.
-Firstly, they cannot command another god to cease existing. By doing so, their own existance is instead made void, and they are destroyed.
-Secondly, a god may not directly effect the death of any creator races, save by actively destroying them with a sword or other weapon, as creator races are a reflection of a god's own spirit, and therefore cannot be commanded to die or killed by powers of the Divine.
-Gods CAN die
-Gods can self-heal only to the same extent as a human ie limbs cannot regenerate.
-If a God is of a chosen domain, they CAN god-mode to override another God's power if they use that domain. ie a God sends a pestilence by blowing a wind towards a village, the God of Wind (if they know about it, of course) can override that power and kill the wind or send it in another direction.
-The above rule means that gods are therefore not necessarily limited to their chosen domain.
-Major changes to the world, such as raising mountains, islands etc, or flooding continents etc. need to be okayed by me, because i'm basically running this whole show. PM me if you plan to do something like this, once I okay it, it can occur. Try to keep it to a minimum, though, as I have to update the map every time.
