Emily looked up in pure shock as he mentioned merely throwing Bastillian in a cardboard box. She was about to say 'You can't be serious!' when she saw him grinning and trying to hide his laughter. She gave him a glare and went to smack him just as he expected. Her tiny hand did little to his shoulder where she smacked him. He might have thought it even adorable she tried. August would then get serious and offer to grab something from the shop. She was glad that in that talk he hadn't asked how she'd gotten him here the first place. She didn't need him to know she regretfully had thrown him into a pillowcase...

"Oh yeah, sorry!" she apologized. "Tokyo please. I'll have to call Grandma Aeryun to let her know I'm coming into town."

And there it was. Aeryun. There was almost no way it could be a coincidence. Aeryun Huene. Mother of Evelyn Tenebris. The same exotic blood that ran through their whole family. The very same Aeryun who'd tried to kill him time and time again as a demon, lost her powers, and then...well that awful time with Evelyn he likely tried to forget. Things had not gone at all like they'd hoped when Evelyn was first face to face with her biological mother.

August tapped on Angelo's number but froze up when Emily said her grandmother's name. His eyes went wide as he stiffened up. It hit him all at once like a tidal wave. Jerusalem, Sanctuary, even Emily's appearance. It all fell together and hit him at once. He had played with the idea but never gotten around to getting the names of her mother and grandmother. And now here she was, the daughter of Evelyn and Eden...the love of his life is the granddaughter of one of his oldest surviving enemies.

"Did you say...Aeryun?" he muttered softly as a hand found its way onto his forehead. He closed his eyes as he took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. He stood up from his chair. "I'll make myself scarce...it'll probably be better if you leave my name out of that call." he said nervously and disappeared into his bedroom to allow Emily to talk to her grandmother peacefully.

In his bedroom he sat down on his bed for a few minutes as he tried to process everything. How did he not piece it all together sooner? He took another deep breath before dialling Angelo and getting everything ready. After about 10 minutes everything was set. His house in Tokyo was prepped and the snake tank was rigged up and ready for their arrival. The private jet was ready and awaiting their arrival, probably the first time in 2 centuries he asked the angel for a favour. At least he obliged and Emily was granted safe passage onto the Vatican's jet. Hopefully Michael won't be there to see them off. That will be a meeting he was hoping wouldn't happen.

He emerged carefully from the bedroom, making sure that Emily was no longer on the phone before stepping out. "Okay, everything's booked. We can pack our bags and head off to the airport any time today that we want." he spoke cheerfully, although it was a little forced.

Emily didn't know why that name seemed to trigger him so much. It wasn't like there were that many 'Aeryuns' running around. "Yesss....? Grandma Aeryun. Why. Is she a friend of yours or....?" She'd forgotten then about their first conversation as how he might have met one of her old family members in his past, and that she'd been an enemy to him. That felt like so long ago they'd talked about it.

He would then sigh and stand up, saying cryptically that it would be better if she didn't mention his name to her grandmother. He then walked off to his bedroom as she called after him with concerned confusion. Calling his name twice she finally pouted and gave up, returning to her meal. She didn't mean to call her right now but she supposed he thought she did. And she hadn't planned on telling her anyway. Her parents would flip shit if they found out she was sleeping with a vampire. Grandma Aeryun especially.

After two more bites she didn't have the stomach to finish her food so she scraped it away into the trash and deposited the plate into the sink. Should she wash it...or did he have a dishwasher...? She'd leave it for later. Maybe he had a maid. She wished she had one. Emily would move to Bastillian's cage and take a peak. The little ball of scales had coiled up in the corner and she felt bad she hadn't gotten him a rock to hide under. She thought about finding him one now but it wouldn't matter for in a few hours they'd be leaving this place behind and the cage would likely go back to Austin's care downstairs.

Emily then left Bastillian's cage and plopped herself down on the couch. She wished she had her phone...With a sigh she leaned her head back over the arm rest and just stared out the window of the apartment. August would appear a few minutes later and inform her that everything was booked. They just needed to pack. Without saying anything she picked herself up and would go to the bedroom to start gathering her things. She wasn't mad at him, per se, but she was kinda lost as to what she should say to him after that freak out of his.

As Emily walked past he placed his hand on her back and followed close behind. He pulled a few travel bags from his closet and placed it on the floor, folding clothes and dropping them into the bags along with other essential items. After all his essentials were in he stared back at the two swords hanging above his bed, both still sheathed but still as deadly as the day they were forged. He looked over his shoulder to Emily who was busy packing what little she had as well before letting out a sigh and looking back at the swords. She was confused and it was probably only fair to let her in on a part of his past.

"I first met Aeryun Huene in a time that I try to forget that still somehow always comes back to haunt me. I was rock bottom in my life during that time and had only just started using my abilities to do good. But even with the good deeds I did in that short time, my sins caught up with me." he spoke slowly as his back was still facing Emily. His eyes were locked onto the swords in front of him. "It was so long ago, I can't remember why she came after me. All I remember is fighting her on the walls of Jerusalem while thousands of Christian and Muslim soldiers clashed all around us. It was a tough, bloody, vicious fight and I walked away with my fair share of scars after those three days, but I won. I drove my sword through her gut and she disappeared into a cloud of smoke." he finally turned to face Emily as he spoke further.

"The second time I met her was along with your mother. That's a whole other mess in and of itself but I can promise you it didn't go down that much differently from the first encounter. The reason I don't want her to learn of my presence or more importantly our relationship, is because chances are that, just like me, she wouldn't let a seven-hundred, eight-hundred year old grudge go that easily." August finally finished with a heavy sigh. His right hand started shivering slightly as he recalled the memories. There were few battles that bothered him these days, but what few there were had formed a black spot in his mind that he just wanted to forget about.

But it seemed his sins had a tendency to keep catching up with him no matter where he found himself.

When August sighed behind her she would turn her head to look at him. He'd then start explaining himself so she'd stand and move to sit on the edge of the bed as he regaled her the story of her grandmother. It was nice to hear things about her for she knew very little about her families actual ancestry...but in this circumstance it wasn't for the best. She knew grandma Aeryun wasn't the friendliest of people, but she loved Emily for who she was regardless.

August brought up the story of them in Jerusalem during some war she should have known more about (History was not her best subject). He claimed he won the battle, having Aeryun vanish in a cloud of smoke. She had bad news for him on that subject, but she wouldn't ruin his victory with the technicalities. The second time he'd met her grandmother was with her mother and that was a strange thought for her. Being immortal was not something she could wrap her own head around. She had literally no idea how old her grandmother was but she speculated her mother was over five hundred years old. Emily herself hadn't even gone through a normal span of an adult's life. She couldn't imagine thinking what she'd end up doing one hundreds years in the future. How do you plan for something like that?

"I'm...really sorry, August. I had no idea she'd been that influential in your life. To me, she's just a relative. I've maybe seen her half a dozen times in my life. And I remember less than half of those. I won't call her. She doesn't need to know I'm hanging around her home town. Though I'm sure she'll run into us eventually. She likes to keep a close watch on downworlders who come and go there."

Standing up she'd make her way to him with a soft and caring smile on her face before she wrapped her arms around him like she had started getting accustomed to doing. She nuzzled her head against him, trying her best to ease her head so she wouldn't catch him with her horns. Those sure were getting annoying when trying to hug someone.

"Don't worry about my family. They don't need to know about you."

What neither of them knew though, was they already did....

It was astonishing how little she knew about her own family history compared to him. One thing that remained quite amusing to him, was the fact that he always ended wound up with a Huene every few centuries no matter where he fled to. It appeared that their destinies were tied together, whether they liked it or not. Even if he still survives the next couple of centuries without Emily, he'd wager that he would be stuck with another one in the far, not-so-distant future.

She stood up and once again wrapped her arms around him. Without a second thought he pulled her into a tight embrace and rested his head on top of hers. His right hand stopped shaking and he relaxed significantly as he just enjoyed feeling her against him. Oh how he hated being undead, not being able to actually register the heat coming off her body, the cool air blowing through the apartment. No, he had forfeited his chance at humanity or salvation long ago.

"Oh well, if she finds us, I can only imagine that to you she'll just be a stereotypical grandma that can't stop cooking food for you." he said softly with a smirk as he held her close. Her grandmother would most probably not be the only one keeping an eye on them. Angelo had received reports of Hunter activity spiking dramatically on that side of the world, at least Iscariot and the SH are relatively neutral so theoretically they shouldn't have any trouble from them.

He released her a little and looked her in the eyes. "Well, we're all set. Let's just finish packing, take Austin's tank back to him, get a cage for Bassy and then we'll be on our way to Japan."

Every time he held she melted. A soft hum rumbled through her as she surrendered to his grip and she pushed her body into his as best as she could. August would rest his head on top of hers and held her tightly to him without giving her any discomfort. She imagined if he felt, he could squeeze her so hard she'd explode like a daisy or some other frilly flower. Just like their speed, vampires had dangerous strength too.

Emily would then laugh as she thought about Grandma Aeryun cooking a bunch of food for her like some elderly woman. The fact in and of itself that Aeryun was anything older than she was (by looks) was another strange thing. Boy was he in for a surprise when and if he'd ever meet her mother...

She'd respond with a chuckle not really giving him much explanation as to why, "Right. Sure."

After letting her go he'd look down into her eyes and she would look back up into his with a smile on her face. She was glad she could cheer him up so easily. It felt so amazing to be wanted and useful. He'd then suggest they finish packing and she'd nod to him and let him go herself. She was mostly done anyway, but she decided to take a peak in his closet and what she found made her blush. Instead she turned back to her bag and would walk out of the room to go 'check on' Bastillian.

He released her and went back to packing. With what little dealings he had with Aeryun, he knew she was most likely not that kind of person by a long shot. He just hoped that he didn't have to meet her in person. The last thing he wanted to do was get into a fight with Emily's grandmother. He noticed her snooping around by his closet, then start blushing and making some half hearted excuse of needing to check up on Bastillian. He leaned over to see what she was looking at, then had to stifle a laugh. Probably not a good idea to have that in such a visible position. After he made sure everything was in (and his dirty little secret was hidden in one of the bags as well) he then closed the closet.

His eyes lingered on the swords, but he decided to leave them. No one even knew anymore what they are or how important they are. To anyone else the merely seemed like ornaments or decorations, so odds of someone getting past the patrons, breaking in, stealing them and getting out again was slim to none.

He emerged from his room, dressed in a casual outfit and ready to go. His pistol was, as always, holstered under his right arm under all his layers of clothing. Not that he needed it that much, but it was one of the best ways to put down annoying demon boys that think they can mess around with people he cares about and get away with it.

He led the way down to the parking lot, dropping off Austin's tank along the way, and loaded their bags in the back of his Charger. When they were seated in the car he started the monstrous engine up and slowly drove out of the parking lot and into the street. "Alright so we just need to get a cage for him then we're good to go." August spoke to himself, eyeing the pitch black snake that was rolled up in Emily's lap.

He drove to a nearby pet shop that specialized in reptiles and shut the car off outside of the store. He got out, locked the car and followed Emily into the store for a cage that would fit the massive snake.

Emily herself had dressed in a new change of clothes, tossing the old ones into her bag to be sorted out and washed at a later date. This new outfit was a short white sweater dress that had a thin brown belt designed to be worn around the waist. The top of the sweater hung from the bottoms of her shoulders and covered down to a frilly skirt just past her butt. Her wings had already been worked around in the fabric so she had no issue pulling it on and keeping it on.

With her bags by the door along with his own, she would undo the magical lock from Bastillian's cage and whisper quietly in Druidic. The snake which was already coiled up, became slack like string as she reached in and picked it up. Normally a snake would stay limp slightly as it wormed its way around the hold onto things; its neck craning in whatever direction it wanted to go. But now Bastillian looked dead. Had they had eyelids he would have just looked asleep. But she'd completely paralyzed him it seemed for he wasn't even flicking at the air with his tongue.

Emily would gently lie him down on a black hoodie sweater she'd left out by the table before returning to the cage and helping pack it all back up. The reptile didn't move an inch. Had she actually killed it...?

Once everything was squared away the demon would perform her perfect illusion which formed her necklace around her neck and her wings, horns, and eyes vanished. This time, she didn't change her appearance. She even kept her long black hair instead of turning it into the short purple cut she often hid behind. She gave August a smile and then grabbed as many of the bags as she could (that he'd left for her to carry), and then head to Bassy and ball the snake up in the hoodie. She carried him in the bundle whilst she followed August to the lower floors. The tank was then returned and then a few minutes later they were in the car and putting their seat belts on. This time Emily actually remember to do that.

"Yep!" she'd reply to his statement about getting a cage. She figured a simple plastic one would suffice. Something that would normally house a turtle or something. She didn't need it very long. She just didn't want to bundle him in her hoodie forever. Just to check on him, she'd unravel the fabric some and make sure he was still breathing. It was nearly impossible to tell unless you knew what you were looking for. Which she did.

He eyed Emily as he walked next to her into the shop. With that outfit she was looking cuter than ever and it worked so perfectly with her natural black hair. Seeing her without her horns, wings or even her eyes was definitely extremely strange after growing so used to it...although it did allow for him to get a better look at her...

He shook his head slightly, getting his mind out of the gutter. He had to focus. There were demons most probably hunting her and he had to be ready the day they decide to show up. They picked out a cage for the snake and dumped him into it. The snake looked kind of...dead, if he had to be honest. Just testing his theory, he bought a few rats and dropped them into the cage as well. If what Emily said is anything to go by, he must be hungry.

They loaded the cage into the backseat and they were on the road again. After a few minutes' drive they drove around the airport, parking by a hangar with a small private jet for them. By the stairway that led into the plane, a man in a suit was waiting for them with a smile that was clearly fake. When August saw the man, he threw his head back into his seat and let out a heavy sigh. "I was hoping that we wouldn't need to deal with him. Oh well, no choice now, let's go." he spoke as he looked at Emily out of the corner of his eye.

He took the snake's cage and a bunch of other luggage and walked up to the private jet and the man waiting for them. "August. How nice of you to show up." he spoke cheerfully and his forced smile was bigger than ever. "Is my car and everything ready that side?" August spoke flatly and to the point, clearly not in the mood for the man. "Yeah, yeah everything's in order. The car, the house...the sanctuary pass." his eyes moved from August to Emily, giving her a cold glare as his eyes turned a soft gold colour as well. Although the colour was pretty much the same as Emily's the rest of his eyes remained white and the gold itself almost seemed more...holy.

August moved and stood right in the man's face, slightly having to look up at him. "Back. Off. Michael." August said as his eyes flashed a quick red. The man, now known as Michael, stared down at August with his golden eyes before they turned blue once again. He stepped aside and allowed them to board without hinderance. "Try not to turn in public again, little demon." Michael's voice called out as the ramp lifted and closed up.

They were finally on the way...

The pet shop took no time at all. The most she spent were in finding the right isle and then finding someone to get them the mice. She awkwardly asked him if he was ok with buying the temporary carrying case; she admitted she didn't have her wallet anymore thanks to the demons. Of course he'd offer to pay as if it was the easiest thing. Having someone buy things for her was a new welcome surprise to her normal life. Her parents didn't count for obvious reasons.

Upon returning to the car Emily would gently drop Bastillian into the cage and then speak Druidic again. The reptile would start flicking his tongue and righting himself in the cage. After a moment he yawned, opening his jaw wide (his fangs not there for they came out only when striking). It was...rather adorable considering he was a predatory animal. He was then extremely excited to go after the rats, but Emily warned August to only do one at a time because the cage was only really big enough for him.

August would offer to set the cage in the back and she thought long and hard about it. Finally she accepted to set the reptile aside and would cover the tank with a blanket, her hoodie, then one of the bags. If he tried to escape they'd hear the bag slide off the seat.

Once situated back in the car Emily would get comfy and kick her feet onto the dashboard. Her boots she'd left down under the seat so her toes were free and shining in the light from her sparkly purple nail polish. They hadn't been there the night before, and he definitely didn't see her do it at the place. The answer was she'd done it via her spell. A very handy magic perk all things considered. Also, she had to admit, sitting this way was much nicer than being stuck holding the plastic container.

Emily felt like she'd somehow walked into a fairy tale. She'd found herself a man who not only cared for her but was apparently rich. How rich remained to be seen but he had homes all over the globe. That was worthy of being classified as rich in her opinion. Even more so that they got to drive to a special road to the airport that took them to a private hangar specifically away from the normal crowd. If that didn't make her feel special nothing could.

After pulling in August's mood would change significantly. Whomever was waiting for them was not someone her new partner wanted to deal with. Emily gave him a worried smile. If August didn't want to see him, Emily probably would feel the same. But even still they got out of the car. Against her judgement he took Bastillian for some reason with the other luggage. With a hesitant whimper she followed after once she'd snagged the rest of the bags.

Silently she stayed in the shadow of August as the two men had some macho showdown between them. Boys always liked fighting over their sticks. Or so she saw on the movies. But then the mystery man turned his eyes on Emily and she noticed the magical way they glowed. Fear crept up and she knew instantly why. She could almost feel her wings shivering on her back even though they were currently in another dimension or something. She in all honesty didn't know how the spell worked, only that it did.

Emily quietly whined being in the presence of this angel. He could smite her with a single touch. She had no idea if that would be the thing that finally killed her. But that's what angels were supposed to do wasn't it? But the man known as Michael moved aside and Emily made quick work to move past August into the plane. She was absolutely terrified of being there. Inside she set the bags down, found a seat, then sat on her knees to peer out the window at her winged mortal enemy.

As the ramp closed their enemy taunted August about not changing in public. She wondered what the story was behind that remark but knew better than to pry. But as August set everything down she'd give him a sad look. When was more worried about him right now than herself. Was that love...?

"Are you ok...?"

August fell into one of the comfy leather seats and stared out of the window next to him with a frown. Michael got into his car and drove off quite neatly. It was part of the deal, whoever saw them off would take his car back to the church for safekeeping. At least Michael was quite the law abiding driver. He turned to look back at Emily who was sitting across from him in another cosy leather chair as she asked him if he's okay. His gaze softened and he flashed her a small smile. "I'm fine...I think." he said softly.

He pointed out of the window towards where Michael drove off to. "That guy right there is one of if not the most dangerous being in the world right now. In the bible you would know of him as an Archangel. God's lieutenants and the front line fighters of heaven's forces. In Iscariot, the organisation that I work for, he's the only person to have a better success rate in missions than me. He has it out for me because not only am I the only downworlder in the organisation and his literal job from the man upstairs is to protect the world from our kind, but was originally supposed to kill me. He has it out for you because not only are you a demon, but you were supposed to be executed after that time you changed form in broad daylight. At least I convinced the church to call the target off and scale it down to a warning. That's what that last remark of his was about." he explained to her. Probably one massive bombshell to drop on her but rather get the truth out now than later.

He looked down for a second then looked her in the eyes once again. He was nervous of what her reaction would be but better he told her now than if she found out on her own. "Our organisation's job is to preserve the fragile peace between the supernatural and humanity. There are other organisations like us but we're by far the biggest. We make sure that downworlders don't abuse their powers or expose themselves to humans. The sentence depends on the severity of what happened but usually we send the perpetrators off to a facility on some island to live in peace there, or we rehabilitate them and help them to better understand and control their powers...or in more severe cases when a person's too far gone we 'terminate' them. Sadly most people naturally use their powers to hurt others so that's usually the sentence that gets handed out. Your case was so severe because of what you are but I fought with both Michael and the Pope himself to scale down your sentence because you were acting in self defence." He finally finished.

He stared at her with worried, desperate eyes as he awaited a reaction with a heavy heart. This much information would probably not bode well for their relationship. Hell he won't be surprised if she just phased through the plane and left him right here and now. "All you have to know, Emily, is that as long as I stand up for you, you will be safe from whatever sentence they come up with...and by order from my handler I am now responsible with making sure an 'incident' doesn't happen again." he dropped his head, no longer able to look her in the eye. "I'm sorry for dropping all of this on you. If you want to get off and leave I won't hold it against you. Just know that I love you and I fought for your safety against that monster out there. I won't let them or anyone else lay a finger on you as long as I walk this earth." he spoke gently.

The engines whined as the jet slowly rolled forward, taxiing along toward the runway. "Will you stay with me and give me a chance to make this up to you?" he looked at her with pleading eyes as he held a hand out for her to take.

Hearing him so sad made her upset even more by default. She wasn't an empath or anything, but the feeling was sort of the same because she cared about him. He'd then point out the window and explain the question on her mind: Michael's identity. An Archangel. Emily had no idea such a thing really existed. I mean it stood to reason if there were demons there were angels, but that made some many more questions and things about the world than answer. Predominantly, was there then a god too? And how could He wasn't doing anything to stop all the bad things happening on the earth? Lots of big big questions.

August then continued by explaining how he knew the Angelic warrior as he played it off as nothing more than their place of work. Iscariot he'd called it. Emily would have a hard time remembering that later. He went on to explain the general mission of the group which was supposed to protect people. God's orders apparently. There erked more questions she wanted to ask about the big man in charge. But then everything was suddenly turn on her all of a sudden. The random twist threw her completely off guard as August noted why Michael had his eyes on her. Then he drove the nail home even further by pushing the word 'execution' right before her ears.

Wait wait wait wait wait. What had he just said? She was to be executed?! Was that like...a common thing!? Emily was stunned she just stared right at August. He claimed he talked the church down from such an order, giving her a warning like it was a parking ticket. How did something so drastic like that be commonplace. She'd changed in public by complete accident! Because her life was in danger! And they were just going to kill her off because of it? And August worked for these people?!

His explanation continued since she couldn't find any words to reply. Maybe he thought making things more clear would make her...not so p*ssed off? Clearly he didn't know her because right now she wasn't angry, she was just confused. Ok, maybe a little angry. OK! Maybe she was furious. But also confused. She couldn't focus on anything he was saying right now because of it. Her mind was still completely rattled by the thought she could have been killed already. But that thought splintered to other ones which brought up the question, if she couldn't die...what would this church do with her? Lock her up for the rest of her life? Keep trying ways to kill her until one worked? That scared her more than anything.

August could likely see the worry and fear mulling around in her head. He kept talking, but she wasn't hearing him. Not until he finally said her name. She blinked a few times and looked back to him as he said something about keeping her safe. And he was responsible for her. Wait? Did the church think she was some sort of enemy. Just because she was born a demon? That was....so racist! She wasn't the bad guy here! She'd merely defended herself. Self defense! Couldn't she have like a lawyer or something?

She supposed that's what August was for. Emily watched his head lower and another bout of sadness wash over him. He was then talking about her leaving him. But he did defend what he'd done by saying he'd fought for her. He fought an argument that should never have even been a thing. But then he said something that again made her just fall even more for him. He loved her, and no matter what, he wouldn't let anyone lay a hand on her. He could have said he'd die for her and she'd get the same reaction.

A gasp and then silence. She was speechless. Well technically she hadn't said anything up until now so she was even more speechless. He'd admitted he loved her. And while he did the same thing the night before, her dreamy state wasn't sure if it had actually happened or she'd imagined it. They'd barely known each other at all and now he'd said it twice. To her knowledge at least. Things were fuzzy around him.

The plane started to roll forward and August asked her if she was going to stay. Honestly it was too late now lest she leave everything behind with him. She very well could -if she wanted to- phase out the back and fly off to go hide from yet another enemy she didn't know she had. But instead, she found herself getting up from her spit and coming to stand by him. She reached out and gently guided his head into her stomach just below her chest.

"August...you've given up so much just to be with me. How could I ever be mad at you."

With all he'd brought up that was the thing she said to him. Nothing else mattered right then. He loved her, he protected her, he fought for her. What more could she ask. If the church was going to come after he, August was promising he'd be there to stop them every step of the way. And Emily would do the same if push came to shove. She was so grateful for him. So she held him there giving him somewhere to rest his head and ease his worries. Her hand would start rubbing the back of his head, occasionally scratching the back of his hairline. In the back of her mind she wanted to tell him that she loved him too, but she wasn't at that stage to say it out loud yet.

August's hand lowered as she stood up and stood right in front of him. He wasn't sure what she was going to do, going to say. With everything he told her she could either hate him right now or still somehow care for him. When she took his head and placed it against her stomach, he closed his eyes and released a heavy sigh.

And then she spoke.

He could think of quite a few ways how she could still be angry at him...but she wasn't. And except for the mess with the church the other things he did for her seemed rather mundane as if it wasn't a big deal or enough, but clearly she didn't see it like that. He wrapped his arms around her as he enjoyed her running her fingers through his hair. He was relieved. She had given him something he had missed for centuries and despite how he wronged her, she would still stay with him. She was truly special indeed.

After a few minutes of just resting his head against her he slowly rose from his seat and pulled her into a hug. He pressed her head against his chest as he held her close, enjoying her heartbeat against him, the curious but wonderful scent of shampoo, sulphur and her sweet blood all mixed together to produce a very unique smell. The longer he held her the more relieved he felt and the bigger the smile on his face grew. He pulled back and leaned in to give her a kiss on the lips before sitting down again, pulling her along and seating her in his lap as his arms were around her to hold her close. "I know for a fact that this means I'm not entirely off the hook, so I'll tell you what: Any questions you have I'll answer to the best of my abilities. I know you have questions and I think it's only fair if I answer them for you." he spoke as he looked up at her. What the hell did he do to deserve her?

It was heart warming that August sighed against her. She felt his anxiety, stress, and worry all leave him at the same time. A smile came to her face once again she the feeling of being helpful and useful blossomed in her. But mostly in the fact that she was being wanted. He cared for her, and he was so worried what he'd done had upset her he'd believed she would just run off and leave him. What kind of person would do such a thing? Not her, that was for sure.

"I've got you," she'd say gently as she played with his hair.

The plane would start to curve and move to the full landing strip when their captain informed them they needed to sit down. Emily smiled and moved closer to him while he pulled her into the seat next to him. Emily leaned into his chest and sighed for a minute. It felt so nice to being held by him. But as the plane took off she would squirm out of his grip to watch out the window as they began to lift off. Emily had no issue being on planes, she could fly for crying out loud. But due to her abilities she couldn't freely go soaring out in the skies. Not like this. Not at this height.

Looking down at the world disappearing so quickly was incredible. In no time at all everything was just plots of land that made her think she was looking at some model home where those train sets ran around miniature towns. Her eyes were filled with delight and when she turned back to him she'd give him another embracing hug (this time squeezing him to show her affection). He had no idea how happy she was right now; though he could probably guess. After a moment he lifted her head up to kiss her and she happily met him half way.

After a kiss that solidified their feelings for one another he'd offer her a deal. He felt he was still guilty of something so he offered to answer any question she had. Emily just kind of shrugged her shoulders. "I uh...don't really have any." It was the truth. She didn't need to worry about this church. She wanted to, but what good would that do. August told her she was off the hook so that was all she needed to worry about. "Besides, you said you looked up for me. I could never blame you for that. If anything I'm grateful."

And to make sure he knew it she'd lean back into him and plant a small kiss on his lips.

When the plane started taking off she started to squirm in his arms. He released her and watched as she was glued to the window, staring down to the shrinking world below. With wings like hers he was slightly taken back that she had never flown so high before. Granted, oxygen can be an issue the higher one went but that had never been an issue for him. But she was still susceptible to suffocation. Maybe one night he would take her out for a flight over Tokyo if the opportunity arose. Something told him that seeing the bright lights of the city at midnight a couple thousand feet up in the air would be quite a sight for her, still at a breathable height for her but also high enough to impress her.

She fell into the seat next to him and pulled him into a tight embrace. Someone was happy. That happiness just carried over to him as she met his kiss. Though he was quite taken back that she didn't have any questions. He was sure that she would be compiling an entire list by now but it seemed that this wasn't the case. She was simply grateful that he was looking out for her. He simply pushed his confusion aside as she leaned in and kissed him again. He met her halfway as their lips touched. That feeling will never get old.

"Of course I'd look out for you. Not only was their ruling a little over the top, but they need to be reminded every decade or two that demons are people too. But you have nothing to worry about. As long as we don't do anything to give ourselves away we're untouchable." he spoke happily and casually. All manner of worry washed away thanks to her.

The flight would take a couple hours to reach there, but once they reached Tokyo's airport, a sleek gunmetal grey muscle car was standing by the plane's hangar, ready for them to just hop in and drive off. August stood in the plane's doorway with a sly grin. "It's been a while since I've driven you." he spoke to himself as he looked at the car.

Emily was glad to hear it. She had someone protecting her and caring for her and in the end...wasn't that what every girl wanted. Maybe it was a little sexist or anti-feminist of herself to think that way, but it felt natural to her so she didn't ever complain. Emily had no issue being the little spoon of the relationship and letting the big man here be the bread winner. Not that she was expecting him to dote on her for however long they were together -her heart prayed for forever. She was no gold digger though. August could have just as well been as poor as her or worse off. She would have found a way to make it work. Though the thought of this devil being a part timer was a hilarious aspect to her.

As excited as Emily was to be on the plane, once they reached a certain altitude where she couldn't see anything anymore, she lost her excitement. She checked on Bastillian to make sure he was ok -he was not. The poor thing was moving around his cage desperately trying to get out. He'd keep stretching his nose up to the lid and trying to push it off. She reinforced the plastic with a locking spell and apologized to the creature. She didn't want to put him back to sleep but she would. It wasn't his fault, she figured the high pressure was bothering his state of being.

After a boring journey of making small talk and other such trivial things they would touch down in Tokyo. She at least was thankful she got to lie with him in one form or another during the trip. And that they weren't stuck on coach where there was no legroom at all and always a crying baby. She was thankful her baby didn't make noise (she had put him to sleep after he still didn't calm down when she checked on him twenty minutes later). Leaving the plane she noticed his gray car waiting for them and she wondered who'd brought it for them. Another angel? She hoped not.

August seemed excited to ride in his car again which made Emily roll her eyes. Boys and their cars. Though, like his other car that got wrecked, she knew her mother would love to drive one of these babies around too. So maybe it was just her. She'd pack everything in and settle Bastillian's cage into the backseat again before climbing into the passenger seat and crossing her ankles down by the floorboards. She'd behave this time and not kick her feet up. It wasn't for his sake, she knew she'd want to see as much of the view as she could out all the windows.

At least the flight wasn't all that dreadful. Flights like that could always easily fall into an awkward silence and, as fun as it is, making out or other 'activities' couldn't always be the solution. What kind of person would he be if that were the case? If there was one thing he hated it was awkward silence and in times like that he took full advantage of learning about people. He not only gave a bit more insight into his life (of course leaving out the parts that would border on questionable behaviour) and also learned a lot more about Emily and her strange family, well the parts he didn't know already. The more Emily talked the more he smiled. It was as if she was made for him. He could only hope that this relationship wouldn't just go up in flames but he was planning to make the most of it, no matter how long it lasted.

When they reached the car he opened the trunk...with the car keys. It's been a while since he drove a car that didn't have all its controls on a remote. He dropped most of the luggage into the massive trunk and helped Emily to place Bassy neatly on the backseat. Maybe the snake wasn't all that bad...maybe.

August slid in behind the wheel and took a few moments to get reacquainted with his old car. The interior, as stylish as it was, was clearly a bit dated. Hell the radio still had a CD slot and the Bluetooth still read 'state of the art'. "Yeah it's been a while since I drove this car." he muttered to himself with raised eyebrows. As his hands glided over the dashboard he quickly started to remember all the car's quirks and features. He stepped on the clutch, turned the key and, after playing with the throttle a bit, the massive straight-piped V8 roared to life. With a childish smile he threw it into gear and drove off into the city.

It was just about sundown and the lights of the city were shining brightly as the sun started disappearing. How the Japanese could combine modern technology and their ancient traditions still surprised him. The road took them through the bustling, stunning street of Shibuya square. August rested his arm on the door's open window frame as he carefully wove the massive car through the crowd of people. "Okay, so we can stop here for a bite to eat for you if you want, otherwise we can settle in first then look for a more supernatural spot that caters to both our diets." August spoke as his eyes were glued on the road. He passed a group of teenagers who were staring wide eyed at the strange American car. Of course Emily might not be the biggest fan of this attention...or his love for big, obnoxious cars in general. They might have to talk that over sometime...

Emily would ask him a couple questions about his life: how did he make his money? What's his house look like that they were going to? What's his favorite place to visit? What's his favorite food? That would got a long giggle fit from her as she realized what she was asking. Blood obviously. But then she'd ask when he was alive. And then, after a long pause, she took a breath and asked the question that was probably inappropriate to ask but she wanted to know. How long has he been alive and when did he die?

Things she shared with him were mostly the same. She'd only ever lived in New York. She's always wanted to go to Japan hence this trip. She'd been on vacation to Ireland a few times. While also visiting the Sanctuary where grandma Rose lived. She loves Mexican food and could eat it every day. And as excited as she was to go to Japan she is actually super super picky about sushi. So...she wasn't looking forward to that part.

Emily would also share her hobbies which included reading mostly and she'd explain all her favorite authors and novels. She'd talk about a few tv shows she enjoyed but hated sitting in front of the television. She'd also never had a boyfriend and she blushed horribly when she admitted he was her first kiss. After that she groaned because she was getting hungry and went into a rant about how she was dying to try Japanese chocolate. She loved chocolate.

His guest was oblivious to the missing features on the car. It was just a vehicle. And although her father taught her how to drive, she never had any reason to. She lived in New York for crying out loud. Emily was even more oblivious to everything as her eyes peered out the window to take in the sights. She was so overjoyed to be there he had no idea what it meant to her. Her smile was as large as ever; her eyes shined from the lights reflecting in her purple hues. August might have worried she didn't like the attention the car brought but right now she was totally engrossed in the view.

After nearing the famous square August would ask her if she wanted to get food or settle in first. She'd shake her head while replying, "No. We need to get Bassy back into his proper climate. Then we can go wherever. Just find me somewhere where I can get some dumplings"

Emily asked one question that he hated answering. When he died. He answered all her other questions. He loved visiting Italy, his favourite blood was O-negative and his favourite food used to be boar on a spit...but that last question he kept quiet about. It was a sensitive topic, not because of how long he had been alive or anything, but the way he was bitten...and his first victim that solidified his transformation.

He mulled over the question as they drove. She probably deserved to know, but he would explain that when the time was right. He decided that he would explain it over dinner when they would go out for a bite to eat and drink.

He grinned as Emily stared at the buildings and bright lights. She was living the dream and he was much happy to make it come true for her. She asked for some dumplings and he started reading the billboards and signs for a restaurant. Thank goodness he was fluent in the language. Pretty soon he found a drive-through that sold the stuff so she could eat as they drove. He stopped by the window, ordered half a dozen dumplings in perfect Japanese and soon he handed Emily a box full of dumplings and a cup of soy sauce to enjoy on the way to his house. To just put the cherry on top he stopped by a gas station, ran in and bought a small slab of chocolate for her as well for pudding.

His house was located towards a more quiet, calm suburb bordering on the outskirts of the city. The house itself was just like the rest of Tokyo, ancient style and tradition meeting modern technology. The rooms were still separated with the paper and bamboo walls but everything else was pretty up to date.

He pulled into the garage, the car just fitting past the garage door. He grabbed their bags and led the way into the house, leaving Emily to carry Bassy's cage. His new tank was located in the living room while he took the rest of their belongings to the bedroom. After settling in and packing their things away in the closet, he moved to the living room where Emily was busy with Bassy. He stood in the doorway, watching her, when something caught his eye. An old instrument was standing upright in the corner of the room.

He picked it up and set it up on the floor next to the couch and cracked his fingers. "I'm a little rusty but bear with me..." he said with a chuckle. He plucked at the strings a bit, getting a feel for the instrument, then he started playing...
