Darkness. The sun gave light, the sun was hot, so light was warm. Darkness, though, darkness was the absent of light, the empty space between the stars, cold and cruel. It’s…too dark…I…can’t see…
The metal was cold, so cold even through her clothing. Behind and beneath her hummed the plant’s generator, thrumming around it were the bolts of blasters, but all Leh’Min heard was the static of a lifeless vent, the silence of a dead cave.
Then came the voice of Lin Queonkri.
Lemon. Get out of here, Lemon…
She heard him so close, so far away, an echo in her head that reminded her of someone else, someone older.
I can’t, Lin…I…can’t move…I'm sorry...
“Sorry, Master…I can’t…get up…”
Why should she? She had already gotten out, already abandoned her fellow Padawan and partner, and why? Not to save a life. No...to take it...just as you were made to.
Despite her best efforts, what few there were, Lem had failed Lin, failed everyone. She felt his capture, feared the worst, and resigned to lie in an empty vent with her face to the dust.
In those senseless particles, she could see her master, see her father, her mother, Nan, Lin, and all of them were in the darkness right with her, silent and lifeless.
“I can’t leave the cave yet, m-master…pl-please don’t make me leave!” She fought against it, gave her best, but in the end the tears that filled Leh'Min'Ayd's eyes suddenly spilled, warm rivulets running down cheeks to soak the cold dust. “P-Papa!”
