DESCRIPTION​

The TIE/LS starfighter, better known as the "Super TIE" or the "Supe", is an upgrade package for the TIE/LN starfighter, a century-old light starfighter design which dates all the way back to the last days of the Republic, but which continues to see widespread use in the present day. Using the TIE/LN as a basis, the TIE/LS mostly replaces obsolete components of the TIE/LN with modernized, high-efficiency replacements, and even takes advantage of modern miniaturization techniques to incorporate a few new features which greatly improve the versatility and durability of the type. The resulting Super TIE is considered a highly competitive design, equal to most modern opponents it may face.

The Super TIE came about as a result of a schism within the starfighter division of Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems, current manufacturers of the TIE line. During the design processes of the next-generation TIE/ST starfighter, two camps emerged, one insisting that the new starfighter be an entirely from-scratch design, and another that thought the TIE/ST should be an upgrade package for existing TIE/LN space-frames, which existed in staggering quantities across the Galaxy. The proposal for a fresh design eventually won out, but not without bitter arguments; in the end, a sizeable contingent of Sienar-Jaemus engineers in the upgrade camp walked out, led by one Archibald Santhe, a member of the company's leading Santhe family. This group went on to form Santhe & Co, a rival company, which continued to develop the upgrade concept on their own.

The TIE/LS is externally identical to the original TIE/LN upon which it is based, with all modifications being internal in nature. The Super TIE retains the twin chin-mounted medium laser cannons of the original, but augments them with a 2-shot concussion missile launcher, improving the craft's strike capability. The Super TIE is also equipped with a light shield projector, improving durability in combat, and unlike its predecessor it is equipped with a class 4 hyperdrive, freeing it from its dependence on carrier vessels and local bases. A life support system is also added, allowing pilots to wear standard flight suits rather than sealed environmental suits, although only 2 days worth of consumables are provided. Due to the weight and space requirements of this extra equipment, cargo capacity has been reduced from 110 kilograms to only 100.

Notably, the Super TIE has seen its performance increased significantly, from 100 MGLT to 115. This is a result of improved tuning and other modifications to the original TIE engine, and gives it a speed advantage over much of its competition.

The TIE/LS Super TIE upgrade package effectively turns the old TIE/LN into a modern starfighter, with capabilities and features competitive with almost anything flying today. Though quite expensive for an upgrade, the Super TIE is still significantly cheaper than buying a whole new starfighter, and is primarily aimed at system defense forces and other organizations which already have stocks of TIE/LNs lying around. Of note, the Super TIE package is not recommended for installation by non-professionals; Santhe & Co. will typically send technicians along with any order of Super TIEs in order to oversee their proper installation and calibration.

Notably, Santhe & Co. is in direct competition with Sienar-Jaemus' TIE/ST with the Super TIE, and faces almost constant legal harassment by the larger company. Nevertheless, they continue to manufacture TIE/LS upgrade kits, with extremely good sales so far.

Restricted. Super TIEs are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

RESTRICTIONS​

Due to the heavily modified nature of TIE fighters fitted with this upgrade, Super TIEs are not compatible with any other starship upgrades.
