I just read that this timeline is ending this year. Do timelines end every year? Any word on what the next one will be?

Generally the admins don't like talking about the new timeline since they like people to experience the awesome plot that we are having at the moment. The timeline is ending in this year and the next timeline will begin at early next year. Timelines don't end every year although there are usually timeskips that occur in order to help with the plot.

It's ending with the relish of Star Wars 7 Think of this as a time to hone your skills as a RPer.

I'm rather concerned regarding this as well. As you must realize, I don't wanna start a char that will immediately be a waste of writing.

I'd assume there's nothing that says you can reboot it (I mean, this is gonna be a full reboot; this is the end of the Legacies storyline). But it could kind of dilute the characters (for me at least).

Wait so when we say reboot what do we mean? Do they keep the same timeline but essentially start over? Or do they pick a new time frame and run with that?

If I recall correctly, the current timeline will end completely, we'll reboot everything and start up another story in a completely different time. It's a complete reboot. That doesn't mean you can't rehash characters you enjoyed or didn't feel you got enough time to play, of course.

Oh well. Fingers crossed for classic Galactic Civil War or roughly in the same time frame as KOTOR/KOTOR II. Post-Endor would be acceptable leading up to Legacy. Please don't do TOR or The Prequels.

Yes, the timeline will end in December/January, and a new one will take it's place shortly afterwards. No, you can't keep your same characters, as there'll likely be a gap of time spanning several thousand years, and this time it's not just a new era in SWRP's own unique history, that has spanned thousands of years IC, and ten years IRL, but a complete and utter reboot.

Now, nobody knows what time period the admins will have us do, yet. It might be a few hundred years prior to the Prequels, could be Rise of the Empire era, or it could be in the era that was called Dawn of the Jedi (in the now non-canon comic line). We don't know yet.

I don't see why we can't slide our characters over. I mean, like, you take the character over in spirit, like, revert back to square one with it. Same name and looks, just back to the point where you started with them, from the leader of a mercenary gang back to that farmboy who set out with a hand-me-down blaster and a mismatched set of armor that was a size too big. Like, my character is still basically on square one. Maybe square two. Transferring her won't be hard, plus, basically everything about her fits in with the new cannon, since most of it are things that come from the films. Besides Tython.

And I think even if you want to keep your character where they are, I'm sure with a little work and creativity you can rewrite your character's history to fit better with the new timeline. Or maybe a lot of work a creativity, depending on how involved your characters got with galactic politics.

It's kind of a given when transferring a character from one setting/story to another that some tweaking and reverting to an earlier stage is required, and I'm positive that unless strictly forbidden, a lot of people are going to do just that, especially if they joined the site recently and didn't get a chance to fully explore their character the way they'd have liked.

I think it's a safe bet to say we'll be seeing some characters reincarnated in a slightly altered form in the new timeline.

It does make me feel a little weird, though, like, the Mods keep saying they want us to not worry about the new timeline and just enjoy our current stories, but like... what's the point? You know? Like, between now and the timeline shift, I don't know how much progress I'll make with my character, but it will all be reset anyway, won't it? Basically. I mean, I'm sure I could work something out with the folks that I've already got "plans" (I use the loosest definition of the word) with, to like, re-collaborate to have our characters meet up again or... >.< ech.

In any case... I can see why the mods would rather we stay focused on the story at hand, but as to how I'm supposed to not worry about all the logistics of this timeline shift and how it affects me, my character, and her relationships to other characters, that I don't see. I feel like I can hardly do any planning because they refuse to tell us anything about it. And they're not telling us anything so that us planning doesn't interfere with the story that's here. But that seems like a null value to me since it's all going to mean nothing in the end, right? It's like getting into a car blindfolded (as a passenger of course) you know you're going somewhere but you don't exactly know where that is or how you're going to get there, and the driver keeps telling you not to worry about it, but that only makes me worry more.

Hey, no existential crises allowed. ;)

Its cool to plan, but try and stay focused on the present. The new timeline is still pretty far away, and we've got a lot of fun stuff coming before it closes out.

It's just a little nervewracking that everything I do from now until then might be reset like one of those instant death games. Like, no lives, no checkpoints. Just go back to the main menu and hit start.

There's a reason I don't play those sorts of games.

Every story has an ending. There will be plenty of notice (and time) before the credits roll on the Legacies timeline, though. Don't fret!

It's just that my story just started, and so have many other stories of people who have joined the site recently.

I'm rather concerned regarding this as well. As you must realize, I don't wanna start a char that will immediately be a waste of writing.

Blue's been here a while, but the point he makes stands. I'm sure a lot of new members might be feeling the same way, worried about stories they start ending before they can really blossom, and having to start all over again, or feeling rushed into a resolution. I'm sure you guys are working hard at making sure the transition will be as smooth as possible, but since I am not entirely sane, I worry all the same.

You're right... it's better not to think about it too hard. It just causes trouble. >.<

I stopped developing the character I was obsessing over for the last two weeks, I'll use that guy in the next timeline. I'm making a different character that will be quicker to write up and has way less baggage. So I should be able to post up later today.
