@Hatebackwards

Use this timeline as a chance to test-run your character. That's what I did with Andromeda. I've already made alot of mistakes with her that I regret and look forward to changing when I re-play her after the reboot. While you can't continue with your characters from this setting, you will be allowed to start new versions of them from scratch, that's what I'm doing.

Personally I'm over this timeline and I look forward to altering my characters to fit a brand new setting. I'll be honest though, the one thing I am stressing over is whether I'll actually be able to play a member of the Sith Order... that's kinda imperative to my entire RP repertoire >.>

Glad to see I'm not the only one freaking out...But I hope we DON'T have to sign up to the factions again? Or do we?? And would we have to change the background of our characters at all? I suppose some tweaking will be necessary, but are we allowed to maybe add events that we roleplayed if we feel like that should have happened? ok..still sort of freaking out xD I mean a little unfair to reset the whole character story if someone doesn't want to, isn't? :(

Yes, you will have start over entirely, as all the factions and the whole setting will be new. That's not a bad thing though, not to me anyway as I heavily enjoy character creation. While you can replay a new version of your old character, they will still be a separate character to the previous.

You're fortunate you've only just started and haven't developed your chars that much. Many folks, myself included, have had the same characters for years. I started with Satoryu in 2012 and I'm going to start her over as a child again after the reboot.

but don't stress too much now, enjoy the remainder of the timeline and use it as an opportunity to decide what you like and don't like about your characters in preparation for the next.

For someone like me who slowly develops a character over two-four years (and the upper limit is only set because my home-rp-site went down), these timeline switches seem rather absurd. ..I understand my roleplaying style is not the only one, and that some people might enjoy 'changing the decor' like in a theatre. But it's not something I enjoy.

I would have said that I would keep my character as she is, with the most minor tweaks I could make. But I'm not sure that I could continue writing her at all if the threads that I put my heart into will stop meaning anything. Choices, choices.

Ye I know what you mean, @Zee. Even if my characters are new, I put my heart into developing their story and personality in every post, and I really loved the staff that has happened to my main and the characters she met, relationships she started to develop, etc..I had big plans for her..now all up in smoke really...A little hard to swallow, I have to say :(

I dislike change myself, believe me when I say I was incredibly shitty about the reboot when it was first announced. Now I'm looking forward to it, because when you write as the same character in the same setting for three years your ideas start to develop beyond that and you want to move on to something new. That's how many of the more senior members are feeling right now.

You will still put the same passion and vigour into your characters after the reboot, so look forward to enjoying the new relationships they will forge. I had a romance planned for Andro (who I've only been RPing since February) which won't be completed, but I'm still eager to see the new characters people will have post-reboot who she can interact with when I re-write her.

Honestly If I could have my main character's experiences still count I wouldn't have an issue. But sorry guys I'm being a cry :p. Going to continue as is for the moment and see what happens.

I definitely recommend starting from scratch with each timeline. I had a char I was super attached to last timeline called Val. I absolutely adored that char and developed her from a kid to a Jedi Master, and she even had a husband and kids. Developed her for years and I'm pretty sure I had a few sniffles when I had to let her go. I was determined to start a new char, so I started Andraste back in 2011, who started as a kid and grew into becoming the Empress. Completely different, completely new, and it was the best decision I made. Will I be sad saying goodbye to her? Hell yeah! That's 4 years of writing! But I'll still do it. I encourage you to not rehash old chars, but to start fresh. You absolutely will find a new char to grow fond of instead of repeating the same thing.

I can't believe how many people here never wrote anything into their profile bio, but just left it with the initial write-up! Many update skills and possessions, but don't touch the bio. My Jedi's profile with thread list is 26 pages!

For me having enjoyed developing my characters so long, I'm glad for a reason to put them down finally. I need closure to do so, as if I were coming to the end of a good book.

For the new guys, finding the dedicated RPers, you would be amazed how far you can progress your character story in just a few months. You still have time. Just wait and see. You might not feel badly about the idea when the time comes if you keep at it.

Sixth Timeline: The next timeline will be Stone Age Naboo. Basically we will be covering the Naboo Civil War, in which Gungans and Humans will be forced to combat each other with rocks, grass, and bad singing.

Hey you! With the power! Make it Galactic Civil War or like immediately after it.

Oh well. Fingers crossed for classic Galactic Civil War or roughly in the same time frame as KOTOR/KOTOR II. Post-Endor would be acceptable leading up to Legacy. Please don't do TOR or The Prequels.

It will be set in the story of the official Star Wars canon, rather than the continuity of the EU/Legends, so while I can't comment right now on what the timeline will be, I can rule out certain things. One of them I can rule out is post-Endor, since that story is only just starting and there's no way to really know where it's going to go yet.

We'll have more info soon!

I'd also add: this will be our sixth timeline. There's only been one timeline where we've actually carried over characters from one to the other (since there was only a 20 year gap). This isn't new, we do it every few years, and it's always lots of fun. Trust me - those of you worried about it now will surely be really excited once this gets real and you start to think of ideas for your characters!

If you don't mind me asking, why do you place so much emphasis on being in line with the canon? Even this current timeline is based off the old EU.

Because with the EU having gone the way of the dodo, the new group of members we're going to be getting here once Episode VII comes out are likely not going to know about the EU. Even now, as a site that was founded in the KOTOR era, we see a lot of people who have never played KOTOR before, and aren't really familiar with its story. So by basing it in the official canon, which is very limited right now and therefore gives us a lot of freedom, we don't tie ourselves to a story that the influx of members we expect aren't familiar with. It makes whatever story we go with as accessible to as many people as possible.

This timeline also started in 2011, nearly three years before the EU de-canonization was announced, so we continue to follow the EU in this timeline because our site's current history is still based on it. But the next timeline is a full reboot, not just in terms of following the official canon, but also in terms of it no longer being connected to the mythology of the five timelines we've already had. This timeline is the end of our site's nearly eleven-year long mythology.
