...is the next timeline going to be in the past? Is it gonna be a past timeline of distant past things that's based on canon things?

The new timeline will be a reboot of sorts. The previous timelines, including this one, has remained in the same continuity. Events in the first four timelines took place in the past of the Fifth Timeline. The Sixth Timeline will be a refresh, journeying through a new epic.
