Open to anyone!
Korriban

It was an opportunity of a lifetime and Theia wasn't going to let no pAdAwAn ReStRiCtIoNs stop her from going to Korriban for what was supposed to be the party of the century. The curiosity of the galaxy seemed to hold the ruby desert planet closely to its eye as hyperspace travel suddenly exploded to the once believed to be abandoned world of the Sith (or at least it was what her history books have told her); she did understand its connection to the dark side, but that was as far as her knowledge went. However, Theia wasn't going to this world to do buzzkill jedi research, she was simply going as just Theia Durand, that teen from Naboo.

When she arrived, she was quick to spend credits, being a sucker for shiny things and the markets seemed to be packed with nothing but shiny things. She was smitten by the gold jewelry and the intricate designs that were so well worked, it looked as though it took generations to perfect. Every so often, Theia found herself looking down at her new gold cuff bracelet or gently touching the gold drop earrings she had picked up. There were so many different smells of spices that filled the air she was uncertain where it came from or if Korriban just naturally smelled this good. Besides vendors there was entertainment everywhere; from dancers that jingled with their medallion belts and others that would eat fire or even swords without even flinching. There was enough happening that Theia had to stop every so often to reorient herself, which seemed to always conclude with a snack at hand. Meats, pastries, fruits, she was going to be so sick in the morning from all the rich foods. Though she was most fascinated by the caf maker who warmed her a small cup with heated sand, and after that cup of caf, she had enough energy to run non-stop for the length of the celebrations.

Dusk was approaching and fireworks were being launched all around the city, people still partying, singing, dancing, and the holo's giving play by play recaps of the wedding ceremonies. Theia paused eventually to watch along side other girls who looked about her age.

"That Ilyan is so lucky, I wish I can marry a King like him..."
"No way, I would rather want to grow up in the palace like Princess Thalisa, just imagine everyone serving you."
"He is so hot... you think he would take another wife? Maybe me?"
"No way, me!"

Theia grinned to herself as the girls started to bicker and Theia let out a long sigh, finding the Korriban King was handsome as others observed; it was something about how effortlessly serious he seemed drew in a mystery to people like herself. Or maybe it was a teenager thing like her Mama would tell her when she talked about the dreamy polo players at the other academy. She found herself starring for a long time at the holo, flashing many images of the King, her cheeks turning bright red when she eventually realized she probably was watching for a bit too long.

Karai was busy walking the streets seeing the sights and occasionally pinching a item or two from a good stall when no-one was looking and the guards were distracted. Just as predictable as those of Ur he thought, so easy to fool. He was enjoying being fed properly for once and not actually being told to get lost. He was still wearing the traditional attire he had been wearing at the weddings themself. It was keeping him cool and shared under the sun.

He was observing some fire dancers and sword acts when he spotted what he thought to be a familiar face among the crowd. He saw some unknown red headed human, although a young one. Although not a fan of humans he figured it didn't mean they didn't have to be polite.

And he wasn't going to make a fuss in the city.

Instead he observed as some of the other Purebloods looked on with suspicion and caution, with children looking curiously before being ushered away by the mothers. Such was his they viewed outsiders all over Korriban. With curiosity and suspicion. He chuckled a little. As he noted that she was looking at the king on images above and staring. Walking up to her, he soon spoke chuckling at it.

"You look anymore you might start looking like me." he joked "I am Karai." He extended a hand "Welcome to home, hope you like the city of gems. Heard to tell it was a war zone before isn't it." he said.

She heard some other girls starting to swoon again over the king and Theia took one more look before hearing someone beside her speak about herself looking like them. The redheaded teen shook her head and looked up, in fact way up as the sith figure towered over her. Though catching her daydreaming only caused her cheeks to glow several shades of bright red. He introduced himself, which surprised Theia given the response from others, however, she wasn't going to let this opportunity go to waste.

"I'm Theia, this place is actually really cool." she said, genuinely impressed. The stories she had heard about Korriban were ones straight from horror-holo's, but in fact it seemed just the opposite and the people who resided here were just...like the rest of the galaxy. This of course caused some level of conflict within the teen as she tried to rationalize what she knew to her new knowledge.

"Its stunning here, and your king and his wives, are like super gorgeous." she grinned, her attention slightly shifted as someone passed with some delicious smelling cakes, "Ooo, you know where to get those?" she asked him.

The wedding of Lord Arcanos turned Korriban into a party filled planet. In every corner of the world there were people celebrating. Even the street fairs had joined the celebratory atmosphere. There were different types of items and food being sold, and the sweets seemed especially appetizing.

Chasdrym had left the Academy to participate in the celebrations, mostly with the purpose of tasting the local sweets. He wasn’t only a baker during his free time, but he also appreciated eating them, even those that weren’t made by him. If he liked, the Sephi would try to replicate the recipes. This was the reason why he had bought local ingredients in the past weeks.

At the moment he was eating some type of sweet that he bought in a stall. According to the vendor, its main ingredient was honey from bees of a certain oasis, where a very sweet flower was endemic. The Sephi wondered if it was a lie solely to justify the price. However, it was very good and it was worth the money spent on it.

He would still search about the existence of that honey from rare flowers, though.

While he walked in search of new sweets, Chasdrym saw Karai in the middle of the crowd. With his huge size, the Pureblood was unmistakable. He walked toward him, with people this time not staring at him. Perhaps the typical attire that he was wearing helped him blend more among them. Or they are too drunk to notice the Sephi walking among them.

The Sephi arrived near the Pureblood right on time to hear a girl talking with him. “Excuse me.” his face remained stoic, while he looked at them. “Hello, Karai. How are you?” he said with his typical neutral voice, before turning to the human. “Hello, miss. My name is Chasdrym. I overheard what you said about the cakes and there is a stall at the end of the street selling them. I can show you, since I was going there to buy one.

Karai was still curious, if cautious about the human. His old tendencies to dislike them hadn't entirely faded, he looked down, having to in order to actually see her, the height differences obvious. Although there are some even taller than him that walked by and she would soon find it was going to be more common around the city. Massassi grew tall and muscular in contrast to the shorter Kissai around, or even the Grotthu.

She would soon notice slavery was still thriving here, an ancient way of doing things. It was deeply embedded and cultural.

He nodded approvingly, amused at her response. If only she knew this was just the surface and how such cities hid secrets. He heard the name. Theia. Not something he had heard before but he supposed he could try remember it. He had to admit though the king was a good looking guy, as was his wives. He had seen them up close when he gave them gifts, they were even more stunning in person. As he spoke he felt something from the human, something familiar. She had the Force, he could tell.

He was about to offer a location for the cakes when the familiar voice and feeling in the Force approached. Chasdrym. They seemed to have a habit of just running into each other, not that he would complain. He was beginning to enjoy the company, even if they did have little emotion in their face. A rather nice face and blue eyes if he were being honest with himself. They just seemed to get along.

He smiled a little.

"Chasdrym. Good to see you again, out for more baked goods are we?"

He considered something since all three were here, and seemed to have a hankering for cakes.

"Perhaps all together? It's better as a group, less chance for thieves. Especially in the market. I should know I was one not so long ago. I would suggest hiding valuables inside your clothing and close to the chest. They are less likely to reach for it."

With that they are soon led inwards, to a grand market where there were several bakers, cake stalls spices, vegetables and all manner of product found throughout the galaxy and also some local produce found only on Korriban. Like the local delicacy of a fried Korribani beetle.

To her luck, someone knew where to get the cakes and it seemed like he knew Karai; her thoughts danced as to how they knew each other as her light eyes danced between the towering figures. At least with their height, if she stood at just the right angle, they could block the sun from beating down on her. She probably should have brought something that better covered her head as by nightfall she will be as bright red as her hair.

"Hi Chasdrym! I'm Theia!" she gave a little wave, Karai suggested they could all go together, especially to watch out for thieves. The teens' brow narrowed slightly in concern, never had she really needed to worry about something like that, it was what security droids were for when herself and her mother ventured into cities. The difference now was, she didn't have a security droid, let alone a droid, who was back at the temple protesting her leave. Theia took Karai's word about the thieves, pulling her sleeve over her wrist to better hide her bangle. It was so pretty, she didn't want to end up losing it the first day she was here.

In the grand market, Theia was taken away by the numerous stands of food, silk, spices and other trades. She didn't really take notice to the other sith purebloods present who seemed to actively avoid the teen or give her looks when she walked just a tad too close to some of the adults who were just trying to get by with their day among the festivities. "Are you guys from around here?" she asked especially seeing that Karai seemed to move easily through the crowds as they reached the cake stand, "You sound like you know each other." she smiled as she traded some credits for a cake drenched in a honeyed syrup. She gave extra credits to the vendor to cover for Karai and Chasdrym if they chose to get some sweets too.

Karai listened unsure just how much to tell her, so instead chose not to elaborate on the fact he was in the Academy. However it didn't mean he couldn't tell her they new each other and were acquainted or that he was somewhat local. Perhaps not the same city but at least to the planet.

As they walked Theia would soon find he was correct, with a Pureblood child and older teenager being chased through the market with a golden necklace, chased by a angry merchant and a guard. They disappeared into the crowd. Little did she know she was also being watched by a Little Bird. A spy of Thalisa, they were throughout the city and Korriban. Recording everyone and thing. Karai nodded his appreciation at the credits as he spoke.

"You could say that. We do know each other, could say we bumped each other another time. I am not actually from this city originally...I'm from the City of Ur. City of Kings they call it, it's the oldest among the cities. It's one of the more hidden cities, considered a holy city some say. Outsiders are not allowed in at all, it's considered so holy. Only those born there or royal and nobility get in those gates. I guess it's lucky your allowed in here, it's not the same everywhere."

Yes, this time hoping to taste rather than buying ingredients.” he said to Karai. What the Sephi could say, he really had a sweet tooth. Then, he turned to look at the girl. “Hello, Theia.” there was no emotion in his voice, but he wasn’t being cold to her. His ever calculating mind was already studying if she could be an ally. Due to that, for the time being, he would be friendly with her.

Or at least as friendly as a Sephi could demonstrate.

Going there together will be good. Especially to avoid those.” he pointed at the street urchins that were prowling the street. Some were already fleeing after they stole from their most recent victims. Being in large numbers seemed to scare them away. Although the two Acolytes could easily deal with them, Chasdrym wanted to avoid that nuisance.

This could destroy the clothes that he was wearing and ruin his nails. He had painted them early that morning with black and blue patterns, and it took a lot of time to do.

When they arrived at the stall, Chasdrym bought a cake. Karai was faster than him in answering Theia’s question, immediately talking about his hometown. The Sephi concluded that the Pureblood still missed Ur and wondered if someday he would be able to see the famous city.

We study in the same Academy and share some classes.” the Sephi said with his typical neutral voice, before biting his cake. If Karai didn't reveal that they went in a date together, would not been him that would do it. This one was very good too, he would seek the name and recipe to make later. After swallowing the sweet, the Acolyte turned to look at the girl. “Did you come only for the festivities?

Arla wasn't entirely sure what had drawn her back to Korriban after all this time. Sure there was the fact that the King was having weddings, but that wasn't really why Arla was here.

Maybe something from the darkness of this world was calling out to her once again. It had been nearly a decade since she had been here and spent her time among the desert tribes. It had been nearly a decade since the Sith had been thrown off of the world by the Empire. A decade since Arla had left the Order and any desire to be a Sith behind.

And yet, she had chosen to return now. She had met Arcanos once before - although he'd been Azar then - and she knew there was for all intents and purposes no chance of meeting him in a market, but she had come here anyway.

She had dawned her old blue and grey Sith robes, throwing up the hood to block the sun from her pale skin. Her lightsaber was tucked away out of sight as she perused her way through the market. She reached down and plucked a dahlia - said to be the favored flower of Andraste and grown in gardens here in Korriban - from one of the venders, tossing down money to pay for it.

She placed the flower behind her ear, just barely poking out and visible from under her hood as she moved almost lazily through the market. She actually gave pause for a moment as she spotted someone who could have been Theia's doppleganger. The two had never actually met before, but Arla had always kept tabs on the girl, viewing her almost as a cousin and part of her extended family.

Several more moments of watching and Arla found a reason to insert herself into the conversation if only so that she could establish if this really was a wild Theia and - if so - what the kriff she was doing on Korriban. Arla and Ezra may not have been on the best terms, but... wait, did that mean Ezra was here too?

Not likely. His face is a little too distinctive, she thought to herself. She had no idea - dare she even say she doubted - whether or not Theia would know who she was on sight, but either way, Arla wouldn't overplay her hand too early.

I couldn't help overhearing: you're from Ur? she asked. It was an opportunity to ask not only something that would get her involved in the conversation but also something she was genuinely curious about.

As is obvious enough, I'll never go there so I'd like to ask what it's like, she said.

Listening carefully, Theia found herself hard pressed to divide her attention to her new companions and the deliciousness of the cake. It flooded her with memories of baking sweets with her mother and she couldn't help the little hop she did when she took another bite, savoring the treat. "Oh, I've never heard of Ur, but I respect that. There are some places I think that don't need the extra traffic, especially if it is a holy place." Theia said taking another bite as Chasdrym picked up off of Karai; her gaze studied him silently, noticing quickly his lack of affect when he spoke.

It very much reminded her of Uncle Em, and even Ezzie and Jayna; it was probably a Sephi thing, and it didn't bother her like it once used to when she was way younger. "Ohh!" it clicked for the redheaded teen that the sephi and pureblood did go to school together, though she wondered why Karai didn't just say that. Theia didn't give it much more thought, let alone, not giving any thought as to their academy meaning sith, "I'm at the Kime Enanrum Academy of Arts, I'll start my second year soon." she shared before taking a rather larger bite of her cake, "Byeah, we don't really learn about Korriban growing up, more like setting for a horror stories, but this place is nothing like that." she said, pausing to see another individual approaching and asked about Ur.

As eagered as Theia was to absorb everything about this place, she couldn't help but to notice a familiarity with their new guest. Her eyes were distinct, but beautiful, as though she had seen them before. She didn't want to come off as a weirdo though with her starring and so she quickly turned her gaze to Karai to hear more about Ur.

Korriban, a planet Kaedan never thought he would set foot on. He was lucky to be given the opportunity to be there in service of EZTech. For the time he was there, he wasn’t going to be doing anything Jedi related. This is also why he chose to dress casual. A comfy tee, some jeans and a matching jacket was his fit. He left the things he didn’t need - his lightsaber and other things that would identify him as a Jedi - on his ship that was parked in a hangar. In his satchel, he carried his EZPods, EZPhone and a datapad provided for him to record the necessary data.

It was quite the occasion. There was a wedding ceremony. The idea brought a smile to the young knight’s face. He wondered if he’d ever fall in love and further than that get married. He loved the idea but was that path truly for him? He could only hope so.

As he walked through the many streets, he heard many voices. Knowing it was time to get to work and that sightseeing would have to wait, he grabbed the datapad and approached some of the locals. He began polling them and recording their speech. Of course, he made sure they were aware before he started so that he had their permission. He also reviewed pure blood texts and took some holoimages of them so that they could be reviewed. The process took a good while but it was worth it.

Once done, Kaedan put the datapad back into his satchel and walked off with a smile. Now that he had done his job, he was free to explore. As he walked to the end of a junction, he noticed someone familiar. Theia. She was among some others. He didn’t want to impose though so he figured he would simply give a greeting and be on his way.

He walked closer to the group. He was a bit nervous about randomly greeting people. He didn’t want to impose. It seemed kind of rude. Well, it was just a simple hello, right. Kaedan approached and casually spoke.
“Hey Theia, others. Hope you’re having a good day today.”

As Karai was talking he realised quickly he probably already said too much. They was only so much he was probably permitted to say...even from the street. Sometimes he did get into the moment. Despite people asking he decided to not elaborate further and played it off. As the crowd steadily gathered he spoke "No. I was just joking, I'm really from here in Murzana." he lied of course chuckling to make it genuine and just enough they hopefully wouldn't be able to tell if he was lying or not they just had to trust him "I have heard of a legend about such a place...more a myth though. Who knows if it is real or not. "

As the subject changed he spoke then, in terms of Korriban in general "I can see where some might think it's all horror. I suppose out in the desert, some stories are true and may be where those stories come from...monsters lie in the sands. But most places are like this, just trying to get by."

He wondered "So what brought you here in particular? Other than the stories I mean."

Karai suddenly seemed uneasy when Ur was brought up again, as their new guest asked about it. However, her attention turned briefly to another familiar face, Kaedan, whom she didn't expect to see here at all today. "Hey! I'm having a blast! You should get some cake from that vendor!" she told him pointing him in the direction; she was absolutely having probably one of the best days, which was no joke, Theia was absolutely in her element being out and about and not having to worry about appeasing the jedi masters in the temple. She wasn't sure if she should be surprised though to see Kaedan, she was certain there were others she knew who would be visiting today. Even her old school friends said they were going to come, but so far she didn't see them.

Karai had explained more about the reasoning for Korriban being the setting of horror stories. "I believe it, the stories had to come from something." she said as her mind briefly drifted to the scary stories her mother told her growing up. She knew her mom believed in ghosts and some how the stories she would tell her had an authenticity to them that made it hard not to believe they didn't happen. Her gaze returned to Arla, still trying to pinpoint the familiarity she presented which Theia couldn't exactly pinpoint; her mind trying to conclude it was just assuming, but something didn't sit well with her.

"I just really wanted to see what Korriban was all about." she said to Karia while taking another bite of her cake, "I like how your king opened for the people to come and see it. As you said, it was a war zone, but now, its great to see that life is flourishing."

The Sith went on to say that it was all a big joke, but Arla saw no reason to press the topic further

Mmhmm, Arla hummed cryptically.

It all felt a little weird, but Arla's mind was pulled to questioning what Theia was still doing here.

The appearance of someone else that seemed to know her at least made Arla feel... a little better? Maybe? Honestly, not really. Too many questions.

It's certainly not what people make it out to be, Arla said. It wasn't even what it had been when she was here a decade ago. In many ways, the planet had come forward leaps and bounds.

What do you think of having outsiders here? she asked the Sith, piggybacking curiously off of what Theia had said moments earlier.

Karai was somewhat relieved they didn't decide to press further and left it at that. A crisis averted. Instead opting to answer the latest subject, and yet he hoped to find some time with Chasdrym. He had enjoyed the time with him last time, and had the carving ready in his pocket.

"Some stories but others not so much. I mean we thought sand worms were a myth until we saw them, some say the desert dwellers have found a way to ride them. But who really knows." He considered the next question as he spoke "It is. Although life here has always found its own way to survive as much as the people. Sometimes working together such is the case of the Tuk'ata hounds you may have seen around the city. They make great security hounds."

He turned to regard the strange elf woman, it reminded him of the Sephi but with much more pointed ears "For myself I'm ok with it so long as they don't go snooping in the wrong area or cause trouble for myself. Most are just cautious and curious about the newcomers, and hope they don't ruin what has been accomplished. What do.you think of us? Are we everything you imagined of our kind?"

Riding worms? Even as myth or something that has yet been seen by the greater masses caused the girl to contort her face in mild disgust. She imagined a regular worm big enough to ride, and the amount of slime and goop that would be dripping from it left her with unease. Though noticing how it was impacting her appetite for this delicious cake, she decided to try an stop thinking about it, forcing herself to take a bite and be reminded of greatest flavors in the galaxy.

"Tuk'ata hounds..." she whispered to herself, turning slightly to look up at some of the guards who had the canine beasts at the their side.

She listened as Karai continued about strangers visiting; she imagined it would be difficult to navigate given their King opened Korriban and its festivities to the greater galaxy. The unknown always drew in a crowd as people filled the streets, came and went, and also promoting or dispelling myths about the people here. "I've really enjoyed everything and everyone so far." she said as her EZphone buzzed and she looked at her reminder.

"Hey, they're gonna be doing a tournament with different warriors, you all want to go?" she asked looking between Karai, Chasdrym and Kaedan and then finally on Arla, who she felt she was starring at a lot and things were going to be awkward. "You can come too," she told Arla, "I feel like I know you from some place, maybe we can figure it out on our way there." she grinned.

Arla listened as the other two conversed. She had never been the small talk type anyway, and she was sure there was information to learn here if she had the patience for it, but she wasn't really sure she had the stomach for pleasantries and flattery.

It's been a very interesting place, she said. She almost commented about how different it was from the way she remembered it, but opted not to tip her hand too much just now.

The markets are stunning, and the cities are beautiful and have an old memory to them, she said. Arla had traveled the galaxy and seen many places that were old and resonated with the Force, but Korriban was - and probably always would be - one of the most beautiful in that regard.

I'd love to, she said when Theia invited her along to what sounded a whole lot like a gladiator match. She'd heard they still held such events out on Rattatak as well, and the thought brought back long gone memories of Celeste. How many people over the years and Arla seen come, burn brightly, and then die violent deaths? It was a dangerous world they lived in.

A lot of people say I seem familiar because I look like the Thornes, she said. That was all true, and, of course, no one could actually connect her back to her real family. No point in denying what anyone could see just by looking at the holonet.

As Kaeden greeted the group, Theia returned the greeting and suggested that he tried a treat from a vendor. "I will do just that. I'll be back in a bit." And so, Kaedan left the group to buy cake from the vendor. When he received the cake, he looked it over before taking a small bite into it. His eyes shot opened as a smile formed on his face. He quickly took another bite, savoring the taste presented.

He walked back to the group, enjoying the sweet taste of the cake. He listened as they spoke about what the pureblood thought of outsiders of Korriban. As long as people didn't go doing things that they shouldn't be doing - snooping around or otherwise - then they would be fine. It was a perspective he wasn't quite expecting from the pureblood. There were many places where the people weren't keen to outsiders and they made that known. Here was seemingly different.

Kaedan went to take another bite of his cake only to realize that he had subconsciously eaten all. The flavors were unlike anything he had before. He really enjoyed it. He made a mental note to buy another one or more than one before he left Korriban.

Just as he was about to bid them farewell, Theia brought up a tournament that was going to take place with different warriors and extended an invitation. Seeing this as a huge opportunity, Kaedan smiled. He wasn't really in a rush to return to deliver the data and he had a bit of time to enjoy the festivities.
"Sounds fun, I'm in." He folded his arms before he turned his attention to Karai. "Are tournaments a frequent thing here in Korriban? Also, what are the most exciting things to do while here?"

Karai let the two woman speak to each other, they seemed to know each other somehow. Throughout the conversation he had kept himself distracted by Chasdrym being there. Although his attention was drawn back as the human male spoke up and the mention of visiting the arena was made. It did sound slightly more exciting although he had seen a few and participated himself.

He considered what else his people found fun. And remembered one or two things.

"Fairly frequent. Gladiator duels are used to earn freedom from prison for some crimes for the Kissai and Massassi, at least thieves do after enough times in cells...I may have had to do it once or twice." he admitted "Other's do it just to prove their strength. Most times it's just entertainment using Grotthu against beasts. Today I hear it's a special tournament with top gladiators brought in from all the other cities for this event. To celebrate the wedding with sacrifices to the gods."

He considered the second half of the question "As so far as exciting things. Depends what your after I suppose, although I do enjoy some sand surfing and the festival dancing." he remembered dancing with Chasdrym, and how he had enjoyed it. He approached Chasdrym "Looks like there is a plan to see a tournament. Would you want to see a gladiator tournament with me? It's quite a spectacle. I got something for you when we have time." he inquired with a smile, hoping he would. They had some catching up of do and a game that he wanted to continue.

Chasdrym remained in silence while Karai talked with the others. The number of their small group had increased with the arrival of two other individuals. The Sephi showed a brief interest in the woman with pointed ears, wondering if she had his same species or was an Annfyn.

Her lack of emotions on the face showed that she had some Sephi’s heritage, but Chasdrym couldn’t be sure. She could still be a hybrid and he has no interest in talking with one of them, unless he was directly addressed and.

Then, he left the Pureblood deal with all that conversation. After all, they seemed to be very interested in the local story.

His attention only turned back to the conversation when Karai mentioned gladiator games. He had yet to see that part of the local culture. “I would like to go with you.” he said, looking at the Pureblood with a stoic face. Obviously, he didn’t show how curious he was to know what the red-skinned Acolyte wanted to give him.
