The heart of Yavin's jungles had rarely been explored, so much of it was untamed and wild to even the Jedi who had taken up the jungle moon as their home. The dense canopies and winding rivers posed itself as a great challenge and test for all ranks of the order, and within it lingered tests of all kinds. The small class had found themselves trekking through the dense jungles of the planet, across thick roots and over small banks and gaps. The group would find themselves surrounded by thick jungle walls and thick green rooftops which brought little light to the jungle floor. Bats could be seen screeching and fluttering in a mass migration and the force trembled and oozed with life.

Along the base of a large cave structure, which sat at the mouth of a shallow brook was where the Jedi Knight would stop. His hands dropping to the side of his hips as he looked over the class of students. The young Drast's amethyst eyes shifted between each student as he carefully studied them for any signs of discomfort. He himself was used to the difficult tasks that many Jedi chose to neglect. The life of the secret Shadow order was a life that sacrificed even more than the regular brothers and sisters of the Order. He had seen a Sith face to face and bested them, but that was merely one -- possibly thousands lingered in the galaxy, and there would be more battles to come. These students had to learn that the most peaceful and pacifist ways that they had shown on Ajan Kloss had come to an end, it was the Old Council's methods which had lead them to neglecting the Sith and allowing them to nearly destroy their order; this could never happen again.

Aran would bend down slightly to get a good look at the group, his fingers twiddling at the side of his utility belt. "How many of you have truly seen combat?"

Jay hadn’t neglected his physical endurance and strength training. His stamina was good. Yet, it clearly was not good enough. As they moved kilometers through the dense jungle jumping brooks, dodging vines, skirting wild animals and the like, he could feel tiredness sink into his body, and the real training hadn’t even begun! However, Jaysen managed to keep up and never once fell behind. Instead, the fatigue simply reinforced how much harder he needed to push himself before he could be of use to the order.

Every time fatigue set in, he utilized that time to perform moving meditation. His mind reached out to touch the living force, to connect with the abundance of life that existed all around him. For better or worse, he was part of this, with all the good and bad that went with it. As they finally stopped in that dark place, walls of green and wood all around Jay’s eyes went wide and open mouthed he watched the bats fluttered.

Instinctively he reached out with the force to connect with all that was around him. Honestly, he had never been this deep before, and it was amazing. A hand went to the kyber crystals around his neck, and he clutched them. “Look at this, Melo’ia….” When he finally came back to the present, his crystal green eyes looked closely at their instructor. He admired the amethyst eyes; he hadn’t seen colors like that much on fellow humans.

As the teacher asked the question, a wave of shame fell over the young man. He shook his head. “No. I have only training. W-when the planet was attacked, I was evacuated. I was protected, I didn’t fight.” Lips pursed and he looked at the instructor. Images of Melo’ia flashed through his mind. It was the second time in his life he felt like he had failed by doing nothing, by just being protected and giving nothing back. “I want it to be the last time I feel that helpless, so here I am. I seek your guidance.” His voice trembled a little, however, his eyes showed he was serious.

The jungles of Yavin IV were a nice place. When staying at this place, Elidan always felt more connected with the Force. Even knowing that there were several dangerous predators, the Padawan still felt peace when he was there. Nature always had this effect on him.

However, this time he wasn’t in the jungle to appreciate nature. Elidan and other Padawans were going to participate in a training session made by Jedi Knight Aran Drast. He was going to teach them tactics that they could use during lightsaber duels. Due to it being only a class, the Padawans ended up needing to replace their sabers for training ones.

The place that Knight Drast had chosen for the class was near a large cave. Before the class had started, Elidan was admiring the migration of the bats. There were probably millions flying in a large group. The Padawan had read about this phenomenon before. When their food becomes rare, these animals would fly away. Their departure marks the beginning and end of the monsoon period.

He turned his attention to Aran when he asked the padawans if they had already participated in combat. One of the other Padawans, a boy called Jaysen Torra, told his experience. Elidan felt some sympathy with him. Their experiences were similar, with the auburn-haired boy also being evacuated while others remained behind to fight.

The boy picked his Datapad and typed a message about his experience. “I never was part of a battle. I was on Ajan Kloss when the attack happened. I was evacuated with other Younglings and didn’t participate in the battle.” the events of this day still haunted him. He felt so useless for not being able to save his friends on this day. This was one of the reasons for him signing up for this class. He was going to learn, so he would be able to help in the next battle.

Anig'zagut had signed up for this class, deciding that she should learn some combat, or at least practice the little she knew.

The Twi'lek had come to the forest with her mother many times as a child, but never quite this far. It was unfamiliar, but it still echoed of home. This was the place, the moon, she'd been born and raised on, and when the Sith had come, she had helped her father with the wounded in the aftermath.

Ani trailed the slightest bit behind, but she kept up easily enough, even if she was sure the Knight was going easy on them. Her bare feet kept a grip on the earth better than she believed any boot would, and the Force sang to her. She knew how to avoid things that would harm her.

When they finally stopped, Ani breathed hard from the physical activity, but she showed no signs of discomfort. She watched the bats, looked at the area around her. She understood why her mother did what she did. Spending time out in nature, with the Living Force, was calming and rejuvenating.

It occurred to her after a moment that someone was talking. She turned to look at the Knight once more, listening to his question and then her fellow Padawans' responses before answering herself. "No. I've seen combat, as in I've observed it, but I've never participated in it."
