Guy Gavriel Kay is a phenomenal historical fiction writer.
Stephen King is a great rollercoaster writer.
Dan Simmons is one of the more inventive authors I've read.
Eric Flint is a really cool alternate history author.
Bernard Cornwell is another amazing historical fiction writer.
Harry Turtledove is another really good alternate history writer.

Eve.

They say her gospel was kinky.

But in all seriousness, I'm not really sure who my favorite author would be. I'd have to give that some thought since there's so many good writers out there.

Author/Favorite book(s)

Isaac Asimov/Buy Jupiter
Philip K. Dick/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Arthur C. Clarke/2001: A Space Odyssey
Robert Heinlein/Starship Troopers & The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Lewis Carroll/Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
C.S. Lewis/The Screwtape Letters
Tolkien/The Lord of the Rings
Julius Verne/A Journey to the Center of the Earth & Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
H.G. Wells/The Time Machine & The Island of Doctor Moreau
Herman Melville/MOBY-DICK WOOOO ISHMAEL

^ My top ten in no particular order. A few runners-up are:

William Golding for some of his books about Neanderthals/ancient man (a literary fetish of mine) and Lord of the Flies
Robert Louis Stevenson because Treasure Island is sex
Yann Martel, for his great book Life of Pi, which I consider to be one of the best books of all-time despite not being very well known.

Get out *threatens Niner with a sword*

eh shut up.

What I meant by that is that I read so many books by so many different authors there isn't any ONE author that I consider my favorite. And considering your favorite author is a kid's book author....

If I have to pick on then I say I really like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn for One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

I forgot Douglas Adams, but Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is and still was epic. Marvin the paranoid android is one of my favorite characters ever.

A few other people I think I forgot were Stephen King, Michael Crichton and George Orwell, but I don't think any of them would make my top ten but I liked a lot of their books. Another one that I doubt any of you have heard of is Isabel Hoving because she wrote "The Dream Merchant" and it was absolutely fantastic.

That is all. =p

eh shut up. :CStern:

Hes not just a kids author, his work is actually good, and hes just one of many authors I enjoy. I'd probably get banned on spam if I made a list of all my favorite authors.
he seems like a better idea man, and usually his writing feels stale
I dont quite feel it stale. The only objection I have is in its more children centered protagonists, like Artemis. However I enjoy that series, characters like Butler "Domovoi" especially. The dialogue is also something I find clever.

Get the **** out, he suffered from a severe case of depression, not paranoia.
