BIOGRAPHY
X3R was originally built in the crumbling empire of Xim the Despot. Part of an order assembled on the ancient forge world of Thanium, it would not be the droid's fate to join the fabled kiirium legions of the empire; he and thousands of his brethren were, in fact, built to provide war reparations for the Hutts, the victors in an all-consuming war between Xim's empire and the ancient Hutt Empire.
X3R was shipped directly from Thanium to the Hutt world of Vontor, where he was installed in a subterranean fortress where one of the Hutt clans stored weapons they had accumulated over the millennia. Positioned as part of a last-ditch defense system for the base's central core, he and a number of other Guardian-class war-robots would spend the next several thousand years in storage pods, undergoing regular diagnostic scans and battle simulations to keep them ready for combat at a moment's notice.
All this changed when, one day, General Z1MM, an antique central control computer which - like the slumbering droids it oversaw - had originally been programmed with loyalty to Xim, reverted to its original programming and turned on its Hutt masters. The Hutts, in turn, kidnapped a group of specialists who they tasked with disabling the computer and returning the base to Hutt control. Although Z1MM employed legions of more modern war machines in an attempt to stop the intruders, it eventually came down to X3R and his brothers to serve their function as a last ditch defense.
X3R, the only one of the Guardians in his unit to engage the intruders directly, proved a difficult opponent. Though theoretically obsolete, the robot's sturdy construction allowed him to weather a startling amount of damage, and it took the entire group to bring him down. Even this did not destroy him, however, and he was partially repaired by a group of other droids making their way to Z1MM's core, all of them infected with the Instance XIII dataplague. Although they tried to infect X3R, the droid's obsolete interface socket prevented the required connection, and the war-robot escaped after destroying the infected droids.
X3R made his way to Z1MM himself, now tasked with helping the intruders rather than hindering them. The base's modern droids, he knew, would be riddled with Instance XIII infections, and they could not be permitted to take control of the remaining droids through the central computer. With some persuasion, he managed to broker a truce between Z1MM and the intruders. It was eventually decided that Z1MM would hold the line against the infection and seal the fortress permanently, while the intruders and X3R would escape to warn the Galaxy of the danger posed by the new dataplague.
X3R escaped Vontor, and now wanders the Galaxy, tasked with surviving to continue the fight. What form this fight shall take, and what his role in it will be, X3R does not know, but General Z1MM's final words to him echo in his databrain.
"You are to continue the fight, in whatever way you find most effective. The will of Daritha Xim endures in you! Victory and honor!"

X3R is an ancient battle droid, designed to fight in pitched battles against numerically superior foes. Although modifications to his chassis for the sake of practicality have indeed removed many of his built-in weapon systems, X3R is a powerful hand-to-hand combatant, and is physically able to carry very large and powerful hand weapons with ease, both ranged and melee. Though his tactical database is highly obsolete in the present day, X3R has endeavored to update it, learning new strategies and combat styles wherever he can.
Notably, despite being physically very old, X3R is not especially worldly. In practical term, he is newly activated, and will have much to learn as he goes out into the Galaxy.
