"Speaking," Caliban spoke up, grabbing the attention of the gathering as all hell broke loose, "of loss of political power, might I remind the honorable Chancellor that the New Republic suffered a mass exodus of member states that far exceeds any loss that the Free Worlds might have suffered." The not too distant decision taken by Cato Neimoidia and its allies to switch allegiances to the Consortium was not a matter that anyone would forget any time soon. And while he knew it would hurt the New Republic, he was also sure that what he was about to do might be the only way to help it in the long run. Political aspirations and greed had taken precedence over what the was right. For too long had power hungry politicians like Xerxes manipulated the New Republic for their own gain. It had lead to the formation of the Consortium, and later to the actions of the Senators of Cato Neimoidia and its allies. And this, this stunt, was very evidently another such ploy. Well, he was tired of those games, and it was time someone faced the consequences for their actions.

"Given the basis of the Chancellor's proposal, a more fitting redistribution of votes would be the reduction of voting power of the New Republic in favor of the Free Worlds and the Independent Systems Consortium. It is only fitting, given the loss in our political power." He was quiet for a moment, to let his words sink in, to let the weight of his actions take hold. "I hereby propose a couple of modifications to the Chancellor's proposal. Firstly, to propose an investigation into whether the change in leadership within the Free Worlds actually impacts their ability to govern their worlds, or participate in their body in any way, thereby influencing their voting power. Secondly, to redistribute a chunk of votes previously in the New Republic's control to the Independent Systems Consortium. A logical conclusion upon taking into consideration the New Republic's own loss of membership, a much more easily quantifiable metric than vague evaluations of political power."

The senate was starting off with the Chancellor's first topic and then it was obviously going to get a negative response from the Free Worlds Alliance delegation in attendance, and it did. Vetra's expression was unmoving when they spoke out, unamused with the uncivilized antics the governor of Ploo II and Rrodossk. Their outbursts only serve to hurt their cause and make non-FWA aligned senators vote in favor of the resolution.

It's weird, how the representation for the primitivize and tribal wookies are trying to argue with some logic.

Then it happened, Vetra's interested shifted to the Senator of Courscant as he spoke. A New Republic senator countered the New Republic Chancellor's proposal. She covered her expression with her hand. A good counter, she thought, especially from one in their own group. This would sting and hurt the Chancellor's chances of passing the current bill, the proposed modification did spark interest and was especially curious.

Vetra would continue to observe, wondering where the talks will go now. She doesn't feel inclined to put her two credits in at this moment but when the time is right she will most certainly do so. Vetra would look towards the ISC representatives, curious on what their say on this will be.

Emryc was entertained, to say the least, as the bold proposal was brought to the floor. He listened at the immature responses from the FWA senators and then the dramatic counterproposal from Caliban Drast. The half Sephi watched with quiet amusement as if watching a reality Holoshow. It was embarrassing considering that this was being broadcasted across the entire galaxy to once again reveal to FWA’s civilians how foolish their senators sounded.

He thought over Caliban’s counter proposal and thought of the ramifications. On paper it looked great - more votes for the ISC and more power to overrule. However, what kind of message did that send to his citizens or the citizens of FWA or New Republic that may yet choose to swing over to the ISC?

All eyes were on the ISC in the senate now, and this was a unique opportunity. Emryc was quiet for a moment as he considered his options before he finally spoke.

“The ISC began as a marginalized group in this senate,” His baritone boomed across the chambers, “Often the New Republic and Alliance brought anti Sith proposals to senate and consistently forced the vote to overrule the Consortium as a result. Fortunately, the Consortium prides itself in doing the right thing and recognizes that reducing the voting power of any governing body here will not be in the spirit of democracy upon which this senate was built,” Emryc looked over at them all, “How the Alliance chooses to represent itself in the Senate absent a Prime Minister is quite frankly no one’s business but the Alliance and I would assume they can meet internally to decide.”

Emryc paused for a moment before continuing, “I support the motion to toss out the proposal entirely and suggest we maintain the number of votes we have today.”

He glanced over towards Dusty, “And I recommend the Alliance Senators display a bit more decorum and professionalism when addressing the floor. This is the Galactic Senate, not a cheap cantina in the lower districts of Nar Shaddaa. Set an example for your people or consider giving your position to someone who can.”

For the first few minutes of the session, Galek remained in his seat - silently listening to the exchanges across the chamber while idly resting his chin against his knuckles. From the very moment he glanced over the agenda, the Induparan knew that this resolution in particular was going to be the source of fireworks - and he could only internally smirk that the ISC was, as per usual, left unscathed while the Republic and Alliance tore each other to shreds. His expression was entirely passive at that moment, hazel eyes flicking between the profanity-laced outrage of the Alliance Senators, before promptly flicking over towards Caliban and his own amendment.

The former might have been entertaining, were it not for the fact that FWA Senators making fools of themselves was becoming painfully repetitive at this point. The latter, at the very least, was an unexpected twist.

Galek couldn’t deny that he was, initially, torn on the resolution. The prospect of additional votes and influence to the ISC - at the expense of their rivals on the Galactic stage - was tempting for obvious reasons. Even still, to openly vote in favor of such a proposal was a double-edged blade. It was powerplay, no matter how much the Chancellor attempted to explain it away, and that would be the only way it would be perceived by the public. The Consortium had far more to lose in damaging its reputation across the Galaxy, and everything to gain in rejecting the very principle of the motion.

It wasn’t until Emryc finished speaking that Galek rose from his own seat - approaching the podium and proceeding to flick his mix on. “Honored members of the Senate,” He began, his sing-song voice echoing through the chamber. “I rise in support of the President’s motion to dismiss the resolution and subsequent amendment.”

“Since its very inception, the Galactic Senate has strived to provide an equal voice to all of our citizens. And too many times has this body failed in that objective - disempowering the voices of its members in the Consortium, and forcing them to adopt resolutions detrimental to their constituents.”
He leaned forth, his hands neatly folded upon the top of the podium. “I would be loathe to commit that same mistake again.

He straightened at the podium, his gaze flicking towards the Chancellor. “Irrespective of any internal changes to the Alliance leadership, any effort to unequally re-distribute votes - to any government, “ Even if it was his own, “Would tip the balance of power within this body, and runs contrary to the very democratic values upon which it was founded.”

“I encourage my colleagues to vote to dismiss this resolution.”
With that, Galek took a step back - clicking off his mic.

From all that could happen during this session, Sibyl didn’t expect that she would see the Senator of Coruscant not only going against a decision of the Chancellor, but also proposing a modification that would weaken the position of the New Republic. Perhaps the Republic wasn’t so united as Xerxes liked to show off.

Then, Sibyl had another surprise. Rather supporting such a proposal, Thorne proposed that it should be dismissed. It made the Governor contemplate what was going to happen if the ISC accepted it. The most obvious thing was that they would have more power in the Galactic Senate.

However, the possibility of the ISC attaining more power made her remember how some people already thought that they were a bunch of power hungry individuals. If they voted in favor of such a proposal, the ISC could be showing to the entire Galaxy that they were indeed this way. Perhaps Caliban wasn’t so stupid like she had thought before and he had settle a trap for them.

After Galek showed his agreement to President Thorne, Sibyl decided that they were right. Supporting it would end up being bad for the ISC’s image in the long term. With that in mind, the Brentaalan rose from her seat and activated the microphone of her pod. “I agree with President Thorne and Senator Ordalos. The Galactic Senate is an institution that seeks to promote democracy by giving voice to all. Proposing the redistribution of votes by taking them from another member isn’t something that a defender of democracy should defend or agree with. I support that it should be dismissed.

The reptilian senator from Trandosha looked on, shocked. The Senator of Coruscant would propose such a modification? That was such a bold face turn, a member of the New Republic sniping down their own proposal to gain more power and instead to give away their voice. He blinked and paused for a moment before moving forward to his microphone to speak.

"I... to object with thissss propossssal. The Ssssenate isssss meant to be a place of democracy and sssso all voicessss can be heard. Removing voicessss issss sssssomething I am here to sssstand againsssst, wether it issss focussssed towardsssss the Alliance or not. I sssssecond the dissssmisssssssal of thissss modification." He let there be a pause of a heartbeat after his words, allowing it to hang in the air before he stepped back and sat down. This was meant to show that both the FWA is not full of animals and can be civilized, and that they were not hypocrites.

He softly tapped his claws against the table infront of him, his eyes slowly turning between the other organizations. He knew he was seen as an animal, a monster, just because how he was built and his cultural garb. He let out a soft sigh and leaned back, waiting to hear someone else drop a bombshell.

The resolution stood on the grounds that both his own Government would voice their support in backing said motion. Understanding that yes it may be a small power play, but one which would strengthen them against the ongoing Galactic Strife between the Sith and the FWA. However most of their voices were silent and the only one that did speak chose to instead side with the ISC, another of the Thorne fanboi’s it seemed.

Alexander had hoped that with vocal support from the other sitting members of the Republic, that the Consortium would be more inclined to vote with the proposition understanding that it would benefit them. But the feeabled non-existent voice of his fellow Republicans had all but strangled the motion to death before his seat had a chance to warm to his butt. President Thorne's words just put a bullet into the dying creature.

Alexander stood as the Trandosian sat, he didn’t need to hear anything more. There was no way to salvage this, the almost complete silence of his Government on this matter probably showed signs of things to come with all the motions he had for today. But he could only hope that someone down there in the Blue covered seats had the guts to stand up with him.

“My Honourable Colleagues of the Galactic Senate, I have heard your words from all corners.” His eyes specifically settled on Caliban as they toured the room. “I have many a comment to make on why I believe in this bill and its fairness, but I am not a fool to fight against the tide of popular support. As you all said, this is a Democracy after all. Madame Speaker, I withdraw this bill from the senate. For another time.” He smiled before taking his seat. It would be a short rest before he returned to stake his colours to the mast again, perhaps this time they wouldn’t be torn down by foul language and mutinous words.

Jin had arrived with little fanfare. He greeted no one, answered no questions, and slipped into his pod as if he’d just snuck through the backdoor. He hadn’t been in the mood to deal with anyone during this particular assembly. Well, anyone besides a certain someone seated across the chamber, their arm draped over their seat like nothing mattered. His greatest rival. The same man who, coincidentally, had been harassing him over text for the last six months with each, progressively more ridiculous, HoloNet broadcast: Senator Cassian Graves.

He had considered blocking Cassian for sometime now. Still, the other man would have just started sending letters by carrier pigeon instead, so he figured he’d as well have played these little ‘games’ of his. A game that, as it so happened, Jin intended to start right now. Upon noticing the Senator in his own pod, he smiled. Discreetly—as other delegates distracted themselves with another proposal that would go nowhere—he took out his phone and shot him a quick text:

Funny. I can see your bald spot from here.

Satisfied, he folded both hands in his lap and refocused on the proceedings, blank-faced, even as Senator Drast offered an amendment that should have thrown Jin out of his seat. He wasn’t entirely sure why a member of the New Republic would have wanted to reduce their own government’s voting power, but he had a feeling Drast just wanted to stir the pot—if not make the Chancellor look like a complete idiot. Which seemed to have worked, given how quickly everyone tore the proposal to shreds. Good. Jin didn’t need an even weaker Republic.

While relieved, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes as the vote came to a head. The Senate was little more than an echo chamber at this point, and if one more person used ‘democracy’ and ‘Senate’ in the same sentence again, Jin thought he might groan aloud. Of course, that wouldn’t stop him from doing the exact same thing.

He stood, ready to offer his own input, when the Chancellor himself spoke over the assembly, looking about as ashamed as a soiled puppy. Jin sat back down. Well, he thought, a little more irritated about having the rug pulled out from beneath him than the fact that the Republic had been publicly humiliated, That proposal was more short-lived than Emil. He sighed as his aide, Venka, handed him a datapad listing the next item on the agenda. After a quick skim, he snorted a laugh. Then, he took out his phone again and fired another text to Cassian:

Oh, you’re going to love this next proposal.

The Speaker

Once more, the Speaker rose up from her seat - stepping up towards the podium. She lifted her staff, slamming the butt of it against the floor of her pod in order to bring silence to the chamber. Her gaze flicked over to Chancellor Xerxes, giving the man a simple nod once he finished speaking. “Very well." She cast her gaze back towards the rest of the chamber. "The Resolution has been withdrawn from the floor.” There would be no need for a vote at this point.

“With that, we may begin deliberation upon the next order of business: The New Republic proposes the sponsorship of a non-voting envoy from the Sith Empire, to participate in future sessions of the Galactic Senate. She waved a hand, gesturing back to the Chancellor. Her hand-movement was mirrored by another camera droid panning to the man for a second time.

“To present this resolution, Chancellor Xerxes, you once again have the floor.”

He hoped the Speaker would give him some respite before once again being called to the forefront of Galactic Democracy. But that was not the case, Alexander had hoped that the first motion could allow him an easy way into this one, but it seemed that today was going to be a hard slog for the Supreme Chancellor. Taking another deep breath the Chancellor stood once again, his seat not even warming from his brief visit.

“My Honourable Colleagues, our great chamber here was formed to help establish ties between the Great Governments of our Galaxy, The New Republic, Free World Alliance and Independent Systems Consortium. To prevent the escalation of conflicts, to foster civilised discussions and form a Greater Galaxy for every sentient being to live in. Although it has often been difficult, with conflicting desires from each of us, we have worked through this together, to achieve a strong and lasting peace between our three Governments.

However, however, even though there are three of us who sit here today, there is a fourth Government that represents a large portion of the Galaxy's population which does not sit with us. I, of course, speak of the Sith Empire.”
Alexander expected disgruntled voices to rise and he wasn’t surprised when they rose like an orchestra to its conductor. He increased his volume to counter the dissidents.

“As Senator Rrodossk of Trandosha, rightly said all voices should be heard. Yet as we sit here, a ‘Galactic’ Senate, a large portion of the galactic population does not have a voice or an ear within this chamber. Why should we continue to disempower and marginalise the voices of billions of people within a Chamber built to Champion Peace and Prosperity for all.

Now I understand that many of my Honourable Colleagues within the Free World Alliance have had past experience with the Sith that does not sit well with them. However I ask these same Colleagues, how much of this could have been alleviated if conversation could be had within this great chamber?

I, personally, was able to sit down with the Sith Empress in a civil manner and talk out our differences, ending in a peace between our two Governments. I wholeheartedly believe that if such a discussion could be arranged between all peoples, we would have true peace.

I am a realist however, I understand that all progress takes time and that introducing the Sith Empire to this chamber is not something that can be done overnight. Hostilities run deep on both sides of the aisle. But I believe that the introduction of an official Envoy of the Sith Empire, not the Sith Order I would add, would help lead the entire galaxy and every living person within it to a better tomorrow.”
With that he was done, stepping back away from the edge, he waited. Waited for the uncouth and ravenous dogs of the Alliance to rip at him as they had done with every chance of peace for their people for the past dozen years. Not one of them realising that they shared the blood of the dead with the Sith Order.

Carrick was darkly amused by the idea of the New Republic handing over some of its voting power to the ISC. As someone who didn't care much for the Senate, and was grateful that it couldn't effectively order any member to do anything, he was generally opposed to anything that added more votes and more powers to people who were not the ISC. But if the representatives of the New Republic wanted to argue for diminishing both themselves and the FWA then who was he to argue?

But, in the end, he agreed with President Thorne. It was not their place to dictate that another galactic power couldn't rule themselves properly without a central figure. They, actually, probably couldn't in point of fact but Carrick saw little reason in drawing attention to it publicly. Much better to use it to their advantage later. He took a sip of the tea that had been delivered to his seat and savoured it for a moment.

He didn't have to publicly vote to strike the proposal down in the end.

When the matter of representatives of the Sith came up he raised an eyebrow before setting his tea down to pay closer attention. That the proposal came from a member of the New Republic, its Chancellor, was of little surprise. No one in the FWA would suggest it, after all, and the New Republic was removed enough from its own war with the Sith. Someone from the ISC might have suggested it, but Carrick would not have been the first to do so.

Leaning back in his seat, Carrick mulled over the idea of bringing the Sith Empire in as a non-voting member of the Senate. Having the FWA at war with the Sith suited him fine - it kept both sides focused on each other and not the ISC. The ISC was making large inroads in areas of interest for both the Sith and the Mandalorians - giving them a voice might make them think twice about going to war over those contested interests.

At least until the ISC was in a position to crush any such thoughts of war in their cradles.

Indeed, something to make the Sith Empire more complacent sounded good to him - like inclusion in a pointless political body such as the Galactic senate. Let them get bogged down in the miasma of Galactic politics like the rest of them. At least members of the ISC, NR and FWA had practise at it.

However, it seemed counter-productive to give them a public voice when they were still currently at war with one of the other parties of the Senate. Carrick raised from his seat and took a step forward to reach the microphone closest to him.

"Chancellor Xerces, first I must applaud you. Many people hold on to lingering hatreds with former enemies - it speaks well of your strength of character that you do not. I support the spirit in which this proposal is raised."

He nodded once to the Chancellor.

"However, I would propose a change to this proposal. The FWA and the Sith Empire are currently at war with each other - I would have it so that the Sith Empire can join our assembly with an official envoy, if not more, only once they are at peace with the FWA." he argued, gesturing to the Chancellor, "Their relations may very well improve in the Senate, but the matter of their peace should be agreed between the two of them alone prior to their inclusion. No one insisted on your own peace negotiations being broadcast across the Galaxy - nor were the peace talks between the ISC and the Hutts. An audience could prove counter-productive to say the least. Who would make concessions for peace with the whole Galaxy watching for weakness?"

He turned to the assembly as a whole.

"With the change to the proposal we shall have Peace, Inclusion and Prosperity - but I feel they must follow in that order or we invite chaos."

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl wasn't a fan of the Galactic Senate, but it did have its moments. Apparently, the New Republic wasn't as centralized as it liked to claim- or perhaps, these agenda items had been proposed without the knowledge or approval from his own faction. Either case was embarrassing at best and downright alarming at worst. A divided New Republic only made it more susceptible to influences from the Sith Empire and the ISC.

Despite Emryc's criticism of his fellow FWA senators, the aged Wookiee knew enough about FWA constituents to know that they wouldn't be turned off by such "unprofessional" behavior from their senators. Diversity and expression were celebrated in the FWA-- as was the history of telling power-hungry politicians just where to stick it-- and a quick check of his Switter feed showed a trending poll heavily favoring the Glymphid in a no-holds-barred match against Chancellor Xeres, #MakeItHappen. So long as Dusty didn't make a habit of such outbursts, he would be fine. That such a fiery display appeared to rub the prudish politicians of the ISC the wrong way only added to the Wookiee's satisfaction as the Chancellor from the New Republic rescinded the bill. ISC cabinet meetings must be very droll, indeed.

Perhaps most surprising was the fact that the ISC had helped tank the proposal. Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl couldn't remember the last time that Emryc had agreed with him. Like everything the ISC did, he was certain that it was part of their carefully-crafted public image, but the Wookiee wasn't about to complain. Although he expected the ISC to also agree with him on the next proposal from Chancellor Xeres, the FWA still had its entire voting bloc to throw against the idea; a bloc that Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl was all too happy to be a part of.

However, the Wookiee held his tongue and waited to see where the discussion led; perhaps some of his colleagues in the ISC and NR were brave enough to publicly speak out against the Sith, and everyone knew what the gist of Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's stance was, anyways. Ancient eyes flicked towards Cassian's pod; the Senator from Onderon had been silent thus far.

The previous motion’s conversation moved past him with such a pace that he did not have a chance to respond to most of the comments before the snowball began crushing his motion. This being the more important of the two issues in his mind, could not afford such a snowball. So he rose to reply to the ISC Secretary of Defence’s counter argument.

“My Honourable Colleague, I pride you on making your voice heard and understand your concerns and comments with regards to this motion. However I believe your amendment to the proposal is at odds with what many of our colleagues have already voiced their support of, Democracy.

I propose a scenario if we proceed with your amendment. Let us say the Republic, Consortium and even members of the Alliance vote in favour of this amended motion. An overwhelming majority. But then a few minor members of the Alliance, perhaps even ones who do not sit in this room today, refuse any opportunity of peace with the Sith Empire, or even go on to provoke hostilities further by attacking the Empire. Causing this motion to exist in limbo with no sign of progress, thus holding this great assembly and the chance of a better Galaxy, hostage for their own pride.

I believe, that, is against Democracy and the Values we all just highlighted only a moment ago.

By opening up this Great Chamber to all Galactic Governments, it allows its members to ‘ask’ for mediation and support through troubling times. Be it War, Disease, Famine or any other disaster the galaxy may throw at us. We will not force the Empire and the Alliance to make peace before us like actors in a play. If they so chose to do this privately they have the right as Independent bodies within this Chamber to do so. But we will stand beside all parties, to pursue a better galaxy for us all.”

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl did have pride. A lot of it, in fact. But his previous decision to stay silent was disregarded as the subtext of Chancellor Xeres' speech became clear. The Wookiee could feel several sets of eyes in the chamber flit towards his pod as the Chancellor mentioned members of the FWA refusing peace with the Sith.

"The Free World's Alliance does not fight for pride, Chancellor" he said, rage smoldering in him like the aftermath of the Sith's bombardment of Kashyyyk. "We fight for survival." Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl gazed around the assembly before continuing. "The 'past experiences with the Sith' that you mention include innumerable war crimes against the people of the Free World's Alliance!" That the Senate was considering this at all was a testament to how far the body had fallen since its inception.

"Have you forgotten that it was the Sith who started this war? Is it not true that the Sith have consistently been the aggressors in this conflict? Not once has the Free World's Alliance invaded sovereign Sith territory; we've only sought to liberate what the Empire invaded by force. And how many billions of the 'unrepresented and marginalized' citizens you mention are on former FWA planets conquered by the Sith?" Fury blazed in the Wookiee's eyes, his voice dropping almost to a whisper.

"You speak of peace like someone who has never had to fight for it, and your privilege blinds you to the reality of this war. If you want a reminder of why we resist, you are always welcome to tour what's left of Kashyyyk."

Rrodossk knew he had to throw in his words, the Alliance needed it. He had a plan though, and one that would work if somehow he could convince a certain senator to listen to his ally...

"I wish to sssstep into thissss converssssation and proposssse... a compromisssse. Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl, let the Sssssith sssssit in on our sssssenatorial meetingssssss sssssuch like the one we have now. What we can do isssss propossssssse they face punishment for what atrocitiesssss they have committed, but let thisssss be heard: if we are presssssented with any atrocitiesssss we have committed, backed by irrefutable proof, we mussssst accept punishment ourselves. Sssso I vote in favor of thisssss resolution. Let the Sssssith join issss.

Assssss a galaxy, we musssssst put forward a sssssstandard in which we conduct warfare. One whosssssse goal issssss to prevent atrocitiesssss from occurring and what punishmentsssss committing one would entail. Until we have that essssstablished and sssssset in ssssstone, I believe negotiationssss are our bessssst way. I for one wish to sssssay I find the assssssssault on Kashyyyk morally reprehensssssible on any governmentsssssss' principlessssss. And I perssssssonally wish to ssssssay... Trandosha wishesssss to offer our condolencessssss. Our sssssspeciesssss may not have the bessssst hissssstory, we have one of the mossssst bitter rivalriessssss in the galaxy, yet we ssssstill never wish what happened to your planet on any of our foesssss."

Rrodossk swallowed hard at the end of his speech, he knew he was either about to be crucified, praised, or both. A Trandoshan was nice to a Wookie and apologized. That would make waves. Yet he knew not even that may sway the senator. He awaited his inevitable fate with a cold look out to the Wookie, then the rest of the chamber.

Things played out as Emryc expected. The Wookiee coming in with guns blazing, always with his facts wrong. It was a testament to his half Sephi traits that he didn’t very pointedly roll his eyes. At that moment he wasn’t too much in agreement with his Secretary of Defense either. He waited for Aezz to finish nonetheless, always one to politely wait his turn instead of rudely interrupting.

“It is an objectively false claim that the Alliance has never proactively attacked the Sith on a world that was not claimed through aggression. In fact, the Alliance made a show of attacking a Sith Academy unprovoked where children are taught and trained. While the Alliance media could very well have been doctored to claim no child died, the reality is that we will never know because the explosives vaporized all life on site and I don’t see any Alliance or Republic worlds talking to the families that potentially lost their loved ones in the attack,” Emryc cut in sternly, “And with the Jedi more or less the armed militia of the Alliance in everything but name, one could argue the Alliance has been striking back at the Sith defensively and offensively for the entirety of their war against one another. And don't bother with the fighting for peace lecture with any member of the ISC because we, more than any governing body here, know what it's like to manage war torn and abandoned worlds.” @SlagathorTheUnknown

No one here could refute the fact that the Jedi had always been the Alliance’s defense force. They could dance around how it wasn’t an official combat arms all they wanted, but virtually every engagement had Jedi presence and defense to where the Order was largely seen as an extension of the Alliance’s military force. The same applied for each proactive Jedi strike into Sith territory.

“If we’re going to be touting the spirit of democracy, we need to extend that opportunity to any entity that is recognized as a collective government instead of being selective when it suits us,” Emryc stated flatly, “The Sith Empire meets such a criteria, and therefore I concur with their inclusion in the Senate and with voting rights.”

Cassian sat alone in his designated repulsorpod, comfortably leaned back with his feet propped up. He'd arrived earlier, right before the proceedings had begun, but had forgone any pleasantries with his colleagues. He simply wasn't in the mood, nor did he have the energy to engage in small talk that didn't matter, to smile when he didn't mean it, or to exchange a wave that was merely out of necessity.

The Zeltron was beginning to wonder if these galactic senate sessions were worth attending at all. The most interesting moment so far had been the Senator of Ploo's suggestion to stick his boot up the Chancellor's exhaust port. FWA senators were colorful, if nothing else. That was more than could be said for the rest of the government lackeys in attendance today. By the expressions on their faces, he'd wager they did have something shoved up their exhaust ports, and unlike Emryc Thorne, none of them had the extra padding in their nether regions to make it bearable.

Not even the look Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl threw his way could prompt Cassian to speak up. There was no point in arguing the FWA's voting power with the NR or the ISC. Xerxes had been desperate to get his greedy little hands on the FWA's planets ever since he'd taken office. First Jakku, and then Telti, and now it was their votes. Discussing it with the ISC was also pointless, as there had been nothing but bad blood between the two factions in recent months. In the end, its governors would just fall in line with whatever Emryc Thorne said, regardless of what their constituents said. At least they could agree on something. The FWA could never agree on anything, always squabbling amongst themselves and never accomplishing anything.

It showed, too, particularly when the Senator of Trandosha showed up in an outfit that looked like he'd pulled it straight off the discount rack at Spirit Hallowe'en. He reeked of bantha piss, as if he'd rolled in it earlier that day, and for all Cassian knew, perhaps that was what passed for cologne on Trandosha. Finally, someone to rival even Vaisra. But at least Vaisra had enough sense to dress properly. Any dress code that might have existed before had apparently been thrown out, and security would let anyone in these days.

Since when had Sibyl Lassiter started dressing like an overpaid chorus girl? Cassian supposed he couldn't lay all the blame at her feet, poor girl. That Gungan heartthrob had probably thrown her over for another woman, and now she was willing to throw herself at anyone willing to look past her personality—if there was such a person. Cassian doubted it, as they'd have to be a masochist to even consider dating her, even with all of Brentaal thrown in. Sibyl should've seen the breakup coming, really, at her advancing age.

He couldn't decide who was more desperate for attention—the Trandoshan or the witch, but his gaze inevitably strayed away from them, passing over his colleagues as a tourist might observe a group of baboons in a cage. Ugly and absolutely primal, but nonetheless fascinating. He couldn't pry his eyes away, wondering what they might do next, and he wouldn't have to wonder for long, his phone vibrating in his lap.

The Zeltron stared down at the text message, blinking a few times. Vaisra usually ignored him like the plague, and the Zeltron often wondered if he'd simply blocked his number. One hand shot to the back of his head, as if to check if there was actually a bald spot there. He wouldn't be surprised, given the amount of times he pulled his hair throughout the day, but it certainly would put a dent in is image. Pheromones could only go so far. He had to have the good looks to back it up.

Speaking of hair, he texted back. I see you're still growing yours out. Desperate to look the part of a princess for your mother? Surely you must know the throne will never be yours. But if it makes you feel any better, you'll always be a princess in my eyes. The Zeltron smiled to himself, pleased to finally have something amusing to entertain him as the senate session drug on. The next proposal could change the course of the entire galaxy, and Cassian would listen in silence, at least at fist, as his colleagues debated it amongst themselves. @Song

The last resolution went down and was withdrawn, Vetra need not do anything really. Vetra perfers to only use it's voice when it's warrented, not willy nilly. The next resolution is proposed and it's a hot topic, she can already see the passion and fury by the senators. When silence would fill the air, Vetra would then speak. "My esteemed colleagues. While we are voting and discussing the Supreme Chancellor's proposal - even though it is a galaxy of war, with many casualties in this - that we look at this rationally and logically. We must not let our emotions get the better of us." Vetra presented herself as a cool head.

Vetra said with a neutral tone. "Whether some of us might like it or not, President Thorne is correct, the Sith Empire is a legitimate government, and the war with the Jedi and FWA does not change this." Vetra nodded in approval of her own words. "Also in addition, since this is a body of intergalactic cooperation, the Sith's willingness to integrate into this body in some capacity demonstrates it's willingness to engage diplomatically with the galaxy, The solution to the war will not be found instantly, but perhaps this could be a start, a key moment. And I urge both actors to work towards a diplomatic solution to this war." Vetra would then pause and declare her vote. "I vote in favor of the inclusion of the Sith with voting rights as well." Vetra stated, presenting herself as another voice of reason, rationally and logic.

Moments passed, and Galek merely leaned forward in his seat - patiently allowing a few more voices to join the choir before adding his own. Naturally, he wasn’t particular surprised to find members of the Alliance frothing at the mouth - and he took a short few moments to consider the amendment put forward by Carrick as well.

Truthfully, it wasn’t a difficult conclusion to reach. Unlike a great many of his colleagues, the Induparan wasn’t blinded by some inherent bias against the Sith Empire - and he was keenly aware just severely it would undercut his own argument to vote against their inclusion - even if others couldn’t. And for once, the Induparan found himself in some disagreement with the Secretary of Defense.

The Consortium had only benefited from the war between the Empire and the Alliance - and deliberately pushing them toward peace, noble as it might have been, simply didn’t serve the Consortium’s - and more importantly, his - greater interest.

The Induparan drummed his fingers rhythmically against the side of his seat - allowing the ring on his finger to clink against the metal while the thoughts swirled in his mind. Finally, he slowly rose back to his feet - a single step forward putting him before the Galaxy. Once more, Galek activated his mic - hands coming to rest against either side of his podium. “My distinguished colleagues,” He began, allowing his gaze to drift across the room. “Not so long ago, I stood before you to advocate the inclusion of the Corporate Sector into this body. The inclusion of billions of sentient lives, all affected by the decisions of this august chamber, and yet with no voice to represent their interests.”

He stood up a bit straight, his gaze flicking towards one of the camera droids, “I believed then - just as I believe now - that the Galactic Senate has a duty and obligation to be a beacon of democracy in this Galaxy. To thrive, with each passing day, to provide a voice and proper representation to the trillions of lives who may be fundamentally changed by the decisions made in this room.”

“I believed then, that the Galactic Senate fell short of this obligation by excluding the Corporate Sector and all of her people from participation. And it is my great honor to know that we have corrected this grievance,” He gestured a hand towards Liaison Solaris. “And I believe now, that the Galactic Senate is falling short of this obligation by excluding the Sith Empire - home to trillions of lives, across countless planets - from a voice in this chamber.” He said firmly, fingers curling a bit tighter around the podium. “The Galaxy that we seek to create - the one in which this body was founded in hopes of achieving - is one governed by democratic values, free and fair representation. That is the spirit in which every member of the Galactic Senate ought to be accountable to.”

“It is in that spirit that I have advocated for the inclusion of others into the Senate, and why - only moments ago - I vehemently dismissed the notion of stripping votes away from one of its founding members. And it is why I rise in support of this resolution now,”
He glanced towards the Alliance section of the room. “If we believe ourselves to be acting upon democratic principles - if that is the spirit in which we operate, then it is abhorrent to selectively pick and choose to whom that applies.”

“Even the Jedi Order was allowed a voice in this chamber, up until the very moment their own actions led to their revocation.”

“I can assure you, Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl, that those in this chamber - myself included - are intimately familiar with the tragedies that have befallen Kashyyyk - as I am sure you are well aware.” His words cut like ice, that not-so-subtle strike at the Senator’s own behavior towards ISCRA on that fateful day. “Nevertheless,” He straightened, “Opening dialogue with the Sith Empire - bringing them to the tables, as the Chancellor suggests, may very well be the only way to bring this conflict to peaceful conclusion.”

He turned his gaze back towards the Speaker, “Indupar seconds the motion to invite the Sith Empire to join the Senate, alongside granting them full voting rights within this chamber.”

While the last item on the docket was withdrawn. There were many strong opinions about the agenda that followed. Well voiced, strong opinions as a matter of fact. His fingers quietly tapped on his knee as he listened. Carefully taking note of everyone's concerns. Listening to Galek the new representative of Bestine made his decision. Not that he needed to hear Galek's words to reach it. His decision had already been made by what he had been thinking since talks on whether or not to include the Sith in the Senate began.

As Galek finished, Kenjack took a stand. Switching on his mic he rested his hands on the podium as he waited for the noise in the room to die down some before beginning with a calm, "My venerable colleagues." He will look around as he began to speak, "War is a horrible chapter. While not everyone will feel the affects of it in the same way from one star system to the next I can assure you that a peaceful resolution is desired by all. But for there to be a peaceful resolution there can't be any biase. The Sith have shown willingness to integrate into this body. So we should give them the opportunity to do so. If we deny them based on malice or biase then we are denying trillions the ability to be heard and their concerns addressed in this body. To deny those trillions will be a unforgivable travesty." He paused for a moment to let it sink in, "Allowing the Sith to join may not bring the peace everyone wishes for straight away. But it will hopefully be a step in the direction towards peace."

Kenjack will then look to the Speaker, "I vote in favor of the Sith Empire inclusion into the Senate with full voting rights." He will then switch off his mic as he took a seat.
