I've only watched part of the anime. It's good, but not my top choice, though it is number 2 or 3. I liked Near's character, though towards the end (spoiler alert) I felt like they did a total ass pull when it came toward discovering the fake notebook.

Yeah that's true to a certain extent. I hated how childish Near was tbh that really got on my nerves. Lol I love how all their names are the exact opposite of their character attributes. Mello- He is certainly not mellow and is way outgoing and explosive. Light- LOL he is one of the darkest characters in the story. Near- We hardly get to know him very well or his character so he seems very far.

But yeah, the only interesting part after L's death was Light's death.
