If Christians continue to wish me a "merry christmas", then I will wish them a happy ramadan in a few months.

And may the Gods watch over you as well.
For this christmas year, i have the story of the bastardization of an actual holiday.
Jesus was born in the spring time. Most christian theologians agree on this. The catholics took what should be a sacred and immovable event, and moved it to the same time as the biggest pagan festival in northern europe to help convert them, which was Yule.
Yule was a 12 day festival. (12 days of christmas) Where you would sing (Yule-tide carols) dance, celebrate the passing of the old year, and look forward to the new. Make Vows and pledge oaths (both of which were sacred) for the coming year (new years resolution).
An Evergreen fur tree would be decorated (christmas tree) with various things, and candles would be lit around it. (christmas lights, also the tree and candles symbolized life, which continues onward and endures through hardships.) and gifts would be given, but not in abundance. The gifts would mean something special to the individual, so that thought rather than greed was of importance. At the end of the festival they would bring out the tree from last year, and burn it as it had been preserved. (Yule log) to symbolize the passing of the old year. That years tree would then be taken down and preserved as well.
The protestants continued the bastardization of the holiday, despite the fact they had "grave disagreeableness" with the catholics. Not enough however to have their lords birth moved to the correct and propper sacred time, however.
And that's how christmas came to be. Happy Yule everyone.
Yay, tell us another one, Uncle Sheo! :D
Merry Christmas.
