This is what happens when you try to get something large-scale going in an RP, but it's unavoidable. I've seen it in literally every setting possible. We can talk our way through it, though.

You could do it in-thread as your first post - have it documenting the trip down from orbit to the surface. Remember, this is a huge battle; there will be things shooting at you, and you're plunging from space into a planet's atmosphere. You're all experienced soldiers, so you can distract each other from the situation by getting to know each other.

That's the only way I see it working, but you're welcome to try something else as long as you think it'll work in-thread.
