Is it really that hard to get that amount of signatures [votes whatever], really hard, today when we have the internet and in America?

Doesn't the US have like 300 million people living there. I'm pretty sure if you wanted to ban ice cream or build a new death star you'd get that amount of signatures in a day. This "issue" just seems silly to me, to be honest with you and I'm pretty sure in case they don't decide to just ignore this they will just deny it.

Out of curiosity though, since I'm blissfully unaware of what celebrities are doing, what did he do to get this kind of response?

They essentially listed a list of very serious reasons as to why a death star could not be built.

If I recall correctly it included the United States of America not having enough troops to garrison in the station, not having any enemies on foreign planets, current funds being too low for proper construction and maintenance of a Death Star, and a too obvious weak point.
