OK.

I play Guild Wars.

Or, at least, used too. Have tons of luffly screenshots for writing influence, still.

City of Heroes was the best MMO I've played. Fresh, extremely customizable, and an incredible selection of powers and you can even choose you're heritage. The "swords & sorcery" MMOs are way too stale for me.

They need to make an MMO based on Shadow Run using a similar engine as City of Heros/villains.

(shadow run the pen and paper RPG not the shitty console game that needs to die in a fire and have its memory erased from history)

Bypassing all this shit about WoW (which, imho is boring as hell), SWG wasn't bad. Even with the Devs constantly tweaking shit cause they listen to every last complaint whether it has a decent basis or not, it somehow manages to be a playable MMO.

Another pretty good one is the Free-To-Play Rappelz. It's a fantasy setting, decently quick leveling and an easy-to-understand the item base. It is rather limited, but it's also quite flexible. I've not played the fourth update, however, so I don't know what they did for that.

If you're in for a long, long grind try 9 Dragons. It's set in legendary china, with the over-used dragons and the like as mobs. One cool thing about this one tho is it actually uses real martial arts from which the characters derive their attacks.

If you like shibby stuff, you can hit up flyff (Fly For Fun >.>). I've played it a bit, and it's definitely too..... for lack of a better term, 'cute' for my tastes. It's definitely aimed more for younger kids.

Finally there's LotRO. At first it didn't seem too bad. I mean, there is a lot of flexibility built into char development and the like. And then I actually paid attention. There's no naming flexiblity. Say the name I want is taken, I can't use '***** or *****' (i.e. 'markus or markus') or anything like that. Secondly, there's only 50 levels. At first it doesn't sound too bad, but with only fifty levels, there are some real nubs who have high-level characters. Essentially, don't instance with people, like, at all. If that wasn't enough of a deal-breaker, they limit access to the neighborhoods to those who actually have a house within them. If I'm in a guild, I likely wouldn't even be able to access my guild hall until I placed a house (which, btw, costs more than you're likely to make within the first fifteen levels after you get basic equipment upgrades). The list of reasons why I'm not currently playing LotRO continues, but I'll cut it short while you still have eyes >.>

A quick few notes for ya on MMO's:

Remember the fighting setup. There is always a tank (to absorb damage), a DD (damage dealer, aka dps or Damage Per Second who, obviously, does massive damage), A healer, A ranged dps, and a caster (dark mage). Using this and your prefered setup, you'll be able to adjust to the various MMO's you're testing fairly quick.

Try to steer clear of the ones which force a gender and appearance on you for picking a class. For example, I prefer to be either a tank or a ranged dps (with my builds, it's usually a combo ^.^). Traditionally within the community, I should be able to pick whichever gender and appearance I want for each of these classes. If a game doesn't allow that, it's likely they won't allow flexibility in other things as well, and that flexibility is key to winning fights continually.

Figure out the mount, vehicle, or fast-travel system quickly. It'll save you a ton of time in transit and will help you lvl faster.

Find something you wouldn't mind RPing in. For example, in SWG they have mando armor, which is an easy way to RP as a mandalorian. A lot of Role-players on a game can turn a lack-luster game into something worth playing. Even if the combat system still sucks, in most MMO's you can utilize an emote system which lets you role-play combat similar to what happens in the forum based systems. If nothing else, it's something to take note of :P

SWG was good till the CU came out. Pre-CU was godly, then sony touched it and suddenly it was filled with fail.

Obviously, this MMO is superior.
To bad that's an RTS, nub.

is it sad that I actually took the time to watch that whole gif? :CAbove:
I've seen it before, it's really funny if you're an avid RTS player.

you play guild wars cause there is no monthly fee, not because its better. It has a difficulty CLIFF not a difficulty curb.

:CAbove:yes.....'cause you know exactly what I am thinking.

I like that is looks more realistic and I find it more fun. Which means I think it is better. The graphics are far superior, there is an actual story. sure WOW was fun but I like this better.

Rappelz wasn't that fun for me. I was lagging 90% of the time the moment I set foot in a city. It was crammed with people.

I dunno, I've just always liked WoW. The graphics aren't the best, but they don't really need to be dazzling to have fun. I just like questing and raiding with friends, and I like the dynamics between different classes.

I always found the graphics amusing, it added an extra laugh to certain things sometimes, especially the paladin Tier gear...well it's amusing until they bubble and then its just bloody annoying.

Base 5x
Job 5x
Drop 3x

There is also a Testing server that allows players to try out the usually extremely expensive gears really cheap with even faster rates.
