Obligatory Post: Mandos will be an Indie Faction next timeline. Several players have already shown interest in making characters for it. Further details will be forthcoming once we know more about the timeline. That is all.

We haven't officially decided anything as far as leadership. Right now it's mostly a group effort of people talking about what they want the main Mando Faction to be like.

It occurs to me that the way this community handles Independent Factions and the resources they are assigned disincentivizes larger amounts of people cooperating together. I think the admins should consider awarding more resources to independent factions based on the quality of their faction applications and the number of people involved in launching the independent factions. I think long term this will help create more successful independent factions than exist currently.

I think it depends on the sort of faction that's being presented.

The Rim syndicate, for example, doesn't need much resources besides the corporate front. A criminal faction like that doesn't need a fancy fleet, as the criminals bring their own ramshackled vessels.

A Pirate faction, on the other hand, needs to start with ships and more specifically NPC'd ships. When it comes to this I might agree with you that the quality of the write-up factors in with the amount of ships and NPCs it can start with.

I think the number of people involved matter too.
If each indie faction is limited to a certain amount of assets to where an indie faction with 20 people at start up cannot get more resources than an indie faction with 3 people, this incentivizes the creation of multiple smaller indie factions, that are much more likely to fail, over a single larger faction that is more likely to succeed.
I included the quality of the write up because admins have made mention of players trying to use statistics to win instead of good writing. Therefore a faction write up that is well laid out, should be due more consideration than a bare minimum write up, numbers being equal.

Another example is the Bounty Hunters' Guild. At it's very core, all it really needs is a single base, as it's members would, and should, spend nearly all their time in the field collecting bounties and earning money.

I think if anything there should be a set standard. But maybe have the the administration take a view on one or two massive indie factions.

We'll see how people respond to the Je'daii concept.

I really like this. I may make a bounty hunter this timeline for this.

Mandos don't have to be cancer lol. You just gotta make sure there's more to the character than "I'm a badass fighter/leader and I'm devoted to family." I love that people are still interested in making a Mando indie faction as long as they do it well :D

The problem with Mandos is that, in the past, they weren't really Mandos. They where Fandos, people who just think of Mandos as literally the best greatest most badass warriors ever, and play them as such with disregard to, well, everything else. That lead to all the craziness with the Civil Wars, the debacle with the Sith negotiations, ext. Mandos who actually have characters that just happen to be Mandos are the best way to play, since being a Mandalorian isn't their defining character trait, and generally come off as less of a tool as a direct result.

Ditto. Exactly my point! :D If they focus more on the story rather than "me mando, me kill non mando", it could be great! I don't know who the people are who are planning on RPing as Mandos nest TL, but they should keep this in mind because I would love to see them succeed in making an awesome Mando faction. Even if for some reason the faction doesn't last long, I'd rather see it be successful (in terms of good RP and relevance to the story) during that short time than just fail because they were being boring and sticking to the stereotypes.

The general consensus seems to be for a more Mandalorian Crusader type of faction next timeline. More in line with, say, Space Vikings. Although, this hasn't been confirmed yet, and will likely be based on what the Admins decide to do.
