Fallout?
Nope.
Mad Max with Sci Fi elements ain't the jam we're spreading here.
Fallout?
I'd hardly describe Mass Effect or KOTOR as open world....
..because y'know, they're not.
I mean, imagine an open world Star Wars game were you could travel freely between Tatooine, Coruscant and perhaps Endor? Or another planet of significance within the franchise, with randomised space content like derelict ships and abandoned stations.
They could release the content over a period of time, shipping the two other worlds of the three via download after you purchase the game, it could even be incorporated into the story, like perhaps you are a mercenary/whatever stranded on Coruscant because of a blockade, so you can only explore Coruscant and it's orbit, until you download the rest of the game to your hard drive and then you have the full thing once the blockade is lifted.
Then you can roam freely to your hearts content.

What would be interesting about that kind of concept is if you remained an average person, someone without a great galactic destiny, and the story was set in a known conflict. Like, you're just some regular dude who has to do his thing and fight to survive during the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War or whatever. It could show you, in-depth, how regular people saw those wars.
I feel like you guys might be getting way too excited about an EA product. All of this would be nice, but you have to look at reality and who's behind the game itself. I don't think this will be good for anyone.
I'd like to be pleasantly surprised though.
I don't play video games. I have no emotional investment in this. Plus we're just spitballing. When we say we want to see something, we're saying what we want to see. The fact that a subpar company is behind the product doesn't mean we're going to scale what we say we think would be a good idea.
