I read the article with some promise. Then I saw its with EA.

R.I.P. dreams.

Still, a realistic open-world SW game will probably not be one world but perhaps multiple worlds that are somewhat enclosed. It would make no sense to have Star Wars as a game be only one world. Its a big place, you expect to go somewhere. Roaming Coruscant's ecumenopolis would be amusing for a time, but it would lose its... flavor, for lack of a better term, rather quickly. It would have less variety then Skyrim, which is harped on for its blandness in landscape enough. We need to see Kashyyyk, we need to see Boz Pity, etc. so something like how Mass Effect or KotOR worked wouldn't be out of the question, and its probably what we'll be seeing since its EA. Rehashing trodden ground is their specialty.

But in the end I don't really care too much about this. I've been getting sick of sandboxes as of late. What SW really needs is a new freaking X-WING GAME or JEDI KNIGHTS 4. But maybe thats just me.

I'd hardly describe Mass Effect or KOTOR as open world....

..because y'know, they're not.

I suppose I didn't articulate that thought all that well. I referred to it in the fashion of it being like KotOR with just a few select worlds with the areas themselves being open world in said new game, not that I meant to say KotOR or Mass Effect were open world. The thought earlier expressed of it being like AC is rather like what I had in mind.

And yeah there is no way this is going to be an MMO. Thats madness. EA is stupid and greedy, but not that stupid. It would sink whats left of TOR anyways.

AC Open World's, beyond the methods of traversing them, are pretty sub par to be honest with you.

I'd much rather a hardcore gritty Sci Fi cityscape for a video game right now.

For a Star Wars Open World game?

Give me three worlds of significance, and space exploration and I'm sold.

Well I hope not then.

EA Just won worst company in America a second time. Which though undeserving (worst company in America? Maybe worst video game company... or close before some of their greater releases recently) still says a lot of what people think about them. Hopefully if this does turn out to be an exciting open-world game, it takes itself seriously and isn't an ALWAYS-ONLINE thing.

I mean, imagine an open world Star Wars game were you could travel freely between Tatooine, Coruscant and perhaps Endor? Or another planet of significance within the franchise, with randomised space content like derelict ships and abandoned stations.

They could release the content over a period of time, shipping the two other worlds of the three via download after you purchase the game, it could even be incorporated into the story, like perhaps you are a mercenary/whatever stranded on Coruscant because of a blockade, so you can only explore Coruscant and it's orbit, until you download the rest of the game to your hard drive and then you have the full thing once the blockade is lifted.

Then you can roam freely to your hearts content.

You realize this is probably just going to be a clone of Skylanders/Disney Infinity, right?

What would be interesting about that kind of concept is if you remained an average person, someone without a great galactic destiny, and the story was set in a known conflict. Like, you're just some regular dude who has to do his thing and fight to survive during the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War or whatever. It could show you, in-depth, how regular people saw those wars.

I feel like you guys might be getting way too excited about an EA product. All of this would be nice, but you have to look at reality and who's behind the game itself. I don't think this will be good for anyone.

I'd like to be pleasantly surprised though.

I don't play video games. I have no emotional investment in this. Plus we're just spitballing. When we say we want to see something, we're saying what we want to see. The fact that a subpar company is behind the product doesn't mean we're going to scale what we say we think would be a good idea.

Ah okay. I just don't like it when people get their hopes up and are suddenly disappointed. It makes me sad. :(

It's be nice if it was something amazing! And yes I play games. Not a whole lot, but I do.

Yeah, we know next to nothing about the product and I honestly don't really give a shit that EA is involved, we're just throwing around ideas regarding the idea of an open world Star Wars game, because conversation, so untie your diapers kids.

The three world idea would simply serve to satisfy the scale and diversity quota expected with the Star Wars IP.

Epic and unique environments. That shit pretty much is Star Wars.

Tatooine gives you a hazardous environment, Coruscant provides a frantic urban environment and then either Endor or perhaps Dagobah would provide a more natural looking and aesthetically relatable environment. Decent map sizes coupled with space exploration and detailed character customisation in which you can choose your own story?

There's your open world Star Wars game.

If you wanted to go for a more relatable environment with the third planet, then I'd definitely go with Endor. Naboo could work too, depending on where in Naboo it was set. Same goes for Alderaan.

Naboo sucks.

Alderaan could be cool. A more Earth like world in General would be nice.
