I agree about the Wookiees. They did not look good. Which is disappointing after The Clone Wars, where they did a pretty good Chewbacca.

Ezra and Kanan definitely look the worst, the design choice for Zeb is also odd, and not in an interesting way. I think if they took out the stripes, darkened the pigmentation of his fur and then darkened and smallened his eyes, he'd look a lot better. Same goes for the Wookies actually.

Sabine and Hera in terms of facial features look great, everything looks natural, in proportion and not exaggerated or especially pronounced. Whereas Kanan and Ezra look like cartoonish Disney rejects with eyes the size of dinner plates and other exaggerated features. Their hair also looks pretty plastic and terrible, so there's this clash of grounded meets comical in the shows aesthetic right now that is pretty off putting.

I actually like Ezra's costume though, it's just utilitarian enough to be Star Wars in it's aesthetic and just colourful enough that it feels like a natural progression of that aesthetic, but it doesn't go overboard in that approach, whereas Sabine's design does.

The design on the left looks thirty times better and more Star Wars than the final design on the right.

Which is unfortunate tbh.

Keeping these posts in circulation ^^^^

Christ, compared to that the Wookies in this show look like basic story boarding animatronics.

What the hell is wrong with this shows animation department, they just devolved their tech by half a decade? Or where they simply pressured and rushed into making a new show from scratch with unfair deadlines?

From what I heard, it was the budget. They were talking about how hard it was to do the hair on the lower budget that they have for this show.

Budget would make some sense, admittedly. After all, they were previously being funded as part of Lucas' pet project that he had an actual involvement and oversight over beyond 'better run that by George real quick'. If they needed the money he could damn well do it, even if it also meant having to play along with some of his... less than useful direction. Now, Disney sees it most likely in terms of the financial investment, which means seeing returns before they fork over an increased budget. I mean, it being based primarily on Lothal does allow them to re-use scenery models to save some money.

Even still, it must have been a pretty significant cut in budget, given the end result. The show overall looks pretty bad right now and there are usually methods to hide that kind of stuff, which they don't appear to be using all that much, things like particle and lighting effects are usually pretty common computer generated tricks to hide poor quality work.

It'd have to be a pretty significant increase in order for them to up the quality for the next season.

A Zeb makeover/death wouldn't go amiss either.

Only design I don't care for is Kanan's and even then I wouldn't go as far to call it bad.

I liked Kanan's design. I also enjoy his character, especially after A New Dawn. Same goes for Hera. You get a better sense of who she is and what her goals are in that book, goals that will presumably also be revealed in the show at some point.

For those who haven't read it yet, I recommend it. It's not required to understand Kanan, Hera, or the show, but it's certainly helpful and rewarding.

...This alone makes me really interested to read it, more than I already was. When I have the spare money then.

I did the audiobook through audible, so I got to listen to it at work (since that seems to eat up all my time these days), I'd recommend that route. The star wars audiobooks have always been top notch with sound effects, music, and legitimate distinction between voices, plus Marc Thompson is actually a pretty good narrator.

Are the voices of the characters in the New Dawn audiobook the same ones used in the show, or is the text all directly narrated by someone?

I loved the episode in all honesty. There's a great feel to the whole show. The action isn't as lifeless as I thought it'd be and the scripting was nowhere near as cringey. I could even look pass the animation style!

I'm not sure what it was, but it really seemed to hit the nail on the head for me.

That's weird.

You're weird.

Yuppers. fanks bbe

I dunno. I can see where it could be improved a lot - in a lot of places too - and maybe it's because I was expecting worse, but I really enjoyed them.
