So based on these images, the other ones we've seen and the extremely short and rapid trailers I think the film currently looks kind of dull and cookie cutter, no matter how much I want it to be ****ing amazing because I trust Joss Whedon.

But he did make Dollhouse as well, which blew chunks. And he did write that Alien Ressurection movie...

But I digress, what do you think so far?

I'm on the fence, it's looks way too much like that GI JOE film right now.

Robert Downey, Jr. is hot.

That is all.

All of the other lead in movies have been good. I'm sure this one will be too.

If there's one thing that Joss Whedon has proven, it's that he knows how to make an ensemble cast work. I have no doubt that this film is going to be awesome. Probably not going to win any oscars, but it'll be great fun to watch.

See that's the thing, those where all different directors and writers and they where working solely within their origin stories, that's much easier then making an ensemble superhero film.

I mean the only other one we've seen is X-Men, but they made that all about Wolverine. And then Fantastic Four....let's just not talk about that.

I liked the Iron Man and Cap movies, but Thor felt a little meh. Some of the pics felt a little "ehhh," but it could be completely out of context and be pretty cool after all.

X men first class was excellent.

I'm watching the film for the fun of it. The enjoyment of seeing some of the heroes I read brought to life on screen. It will be a good film. All the past films were good, the cast is good, and the plot is a good choice. The Skrull invason is a really good choice for the avengers movie, as it can provide a myriad of situations.

It won't be some thought-provoking piece of cinema. It will be an enjoyable romp to watch with my friends. I can't ask for anything more from a comic book film.

Again, they focused the story around a central character (You could argue whether the main character was Charles or Xavier or possibly both). That was a little smaller in scale to the usual comic book fare as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the movie is going to shit, far from it. I'm merely hesitant based on what we've been seeing and through our prior experiences with hollywood comic book adaptations.

Yes you can.

All of the Batman films apart from the ones adapted by Schumacher where thought provoking.

So was the original Crow film and a few others.

This is one of the reasons I'm hesitant and cautious. The films we've loved in the comic book genre are mostly one's adapting origin stories, usually with a central character or two. This film is dangerously close to GI Joe territroy, even the look of the armour is similar.

A film about mutants with superpowers who are for the most part human during the cold war era is a little easier to adapt then a film about a neutered thunder god, a super soldier who wears the american flag for armour, a giant green monster and an alcoholic scientist in a mech suit.

All excellent storylines on their own, in the little universes they created but mashed together in a MOVIE setting, it can go either way. It could end up being ****ING AWESOME. Or you know, dog shit.

Sorry, but I enjoyed the Fantastic 4 movies and I don't care if they were not fully true to the comics or what people say. I love Ben Grimm and both of the movies.

I also never saw Wolverine and have no intentions too. Maybe First Class.

Anywho, this film is looking pretty tight, my only complaint about the teaser was it showed more Thor then Tony Stark or The Captain in it. I hope it shows them all equally and does not have one overpower the other immensely.

That right there, means you don't get an opinion. :bitchez

I'll be nice and say one good thing about the films, the effects, where semi decent. But that's like saying a rollercoaster ride was 'okay'.

It was badly written, acting was bleh and it of course wasn't true at all to the comics, which let's be honest, where pretty terrible anyway.

You should never see Wolverine, it fell into a trap many of these movies do, it kept referencing itself constantly and winking at the audience, attempting to cram in as many unnecessary characters as possible.

It might just be the terrible marketing campaign that has me thinking so cautiously but yeah, the marketing has been a little weird. Joss has been wrong in the past, unfortunately he not as 'clean' as say, Nolan. I want this movie to be good, I really do. The first full trailer they release better be something special.

Let's be really honest though, we stopped paying attention to their comics when Johnny Storm was killed off and ****ing Spider-Man was added to the team.

And even if the film did bad, Michael Chiklis was praised for his performance in the films, so that does not mean all the acting was bad. Plus the first film had Stan Lee's cameo an actual character from the comics, I believe.

For Avengers, Directors can usualy surprise people. Joe Johnston for example, has made hits and misses. He made some good films in the 90's, but then he made Jurassic Park 3, which was not great but not terrible. Then Hidalgo which was interesting, then The Wolf Man which was not better then the Original, but still interesting, then he made Captain America which was great.

This is me agreeing with you.

He was a minor character in the film, not the main character, his appearance on the film makes up roughly 25% of it. You just end up not caring about the character at all, especially in the sequel. In fact I'm baffled that we're even discussing it.

Plus the first film had Stan Lee's cameo an actual character from the comics, I believe.
So?

Directors are mediators in the realm of film, they're only as good as the studio allows them to be along with their producers and in turn, they're only as good as the people working for them, make-up artists, musicians, stuntmen etc.

Hitchcock has even worked on some horrible pieces of crap, but they make up 5% of his repetoire and the ones he did succeed with, where MONUMENTALLY praised and worshipped.

Joss Whedon has had four cancelled tv shows, wrote the script for the bad Alien movie (Well one of them), wrote for Roseanne for awhile, Directed an episode of Glee, a bad episode of the Office and to his credit, was a co-writer on the original Toy Story.

His credentials, no matter how much I love him. ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Which is one of a plethora of reasons as to why I remain cautious.

We finally have a trailer.

Aliens attacking New York City....how innovative. And a song from Nine Inch Nails is in the trailer...like EVERY ****ING movie trailer that's come out of hollywood in the last ten years.

Still there are some cool bits.
