Russell T. Davies was terrible.

Fix'd

Unless you really meant to say David Tennant was terrible, to which I'd have to reply:

I've never watched Doctor Who. I just wanted to invoke a reaction since I know people love David Tennant.

Troll fail. :(

You're no Prospero, but we still love you...somehow.

Anyway, Hobbit=Great, if you can get past the jarring frames that everyone seems to be able to see.

Honestly, for most people I think it's in their head, they keep hearing about this and it becomes much worse and noticeable than it actually is. I won't deny that it's there and that I just can't see it, or don't care, but it feels like it's something people are harping about too much, or want to criticize it because it's the thing to do. Either way it's pretty great.

I don't think you can make that statement when you didn't notice it. You may have been in 24fps, or maybe you were just in a standard 3D theater.

After a little research it looks like I saw it in 24 fps. I'll probably see it again in the higher frame rate and see how it looks.

I caught it last night and really enjoyed it. My gripe about the frames was more the 3D took away from the movie more than it helped. There were some cool aspects (I saw it in IMAX/3D.) And some of the fight scenes seemed to blur/distract because of staring at one area then someone's axe/arm/whatever comes swirling in and it just distracts the eye.

Other than that I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. I'm still disappointed its going to be released in segments though; I thought they left off at a great spot, and was balanced with plenty of light humor/action/story building; but I'd of loved to sit for another 2 hours to catch some more. Which says something about the film.

It is awkward in the first 20 minutes, but then your eyes get used to it and you shouldn`t notice it too much, I know I didn`t mind it.

As for the movie - I loved it. If I have to be honest I`ve never read any of Tolkien`s books and I blame it on the fact that when I first picked up the Fellowship of the Ring I was very young (like 9, or something) and hence quite bored by the awful amount of description and information about the hobbit families, which he put in the first pages. Although I do plan on reading all the books, or at least most. Still I loved all the characters, as much as I could understand them, especially Bilbo. I find him quite more attractive than the hobbits from LoTR, despite them being among my favorite characters as a whole, not just the LoTR trilogy.

I’ve been reading some of the reviews of this movie, and it’s painfully obvious a lot of reviewers know nothing about Tolkein. I’ve seen some say that the addition of Saruman is just a shameless connection to Jackson’s previous trilogy, showing that any reviewer who says that doesn’t know anything about the full history of Middle Earth outside of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Indeed some of the reviews I have read myself, deem the reviewer quite ignorant when it comes to the topic at hand. I`ve seen some go as far as comment that the Hobbit was not nearly as epic as the LoTR trilogy and protest that there was not enough action in the movie, while there was too much talking. I think that commentary doesn`t even deserve to be frowned upon...

This movie had me more drawn in than the Lord of the Rings films (which I saw as kid, ages 10-12). I definitely cannot wait for the next one. I give it 8.5/10. Mind you, I saw it in 2D.

This song is one of the best I have heard in the series, aside from Gollum's Song.

Just came back from seeing it. Was just...blown away. I mean, I'm a hardcore fan anyway, so I was bound to enjoy it, but even from a purism perspective it's really accurate, all of the right scenes are in there and done really tastefully, and the characters blend into the world so much better then I originally thought. I still have a couple of niggle with the artistic styling here and there, but it was consistent with the style from the LOTR movies so I can overlook most of it.

I'm really hoping Thrain's dwarven ring is mentioned at some stage - I was disappointed that Gandalf and Galadriel weren't wearing Narya and Nenya, especially in the close-up on their hands.

Yeah, they've never really talked in depth about what the Dwarven, and Elvish rings do in the films. Or what even happened to the Dwarves with rings. I have to admit I've never read the Lord of the Rings trilogy so I'm a bit behind on that.

Well, the rings themselves kind of just have subtle effects. The Dwarven rings caused one's kingdoms to prosper and abound in wealth, but usually wound up driving the owner mad with greed (though slowly, as dwarves are difficult to corrupt). The Nine rings of Men prolonged one's life (immortality being Man's greatest desire), but at the cost of their spirit...eventually their wills are enslaved and they lose their mortal forms to become the Nazgul. The Elven rings were slightly more individualized, but basically helped make the land or people more wonderous and mighty, and helped recapture the beauty of Valinor and safe from evil...but created a greater longing for the sea in the owner if they were Elven.

I think canonicly only...four of the Seven rings of dwarves were ever accounted for. The rest were believed to have either passed back to Sauron at some point or were consumed by dragons or lost in their hoardes.

Yup. The rings were originally given to Galadriel (Nenya) and Gil-Galad (High King of the Noldor, he passed Vilya to Elrond before his death during the Last Alliance, and Narya to Cirdan, who wound up passing it on again to Gandalf when he arrived in Middle-Earth)

In fact Saruman later found out that Gandalf was given Narya by Cirdan, and his jealousy played a big part as to why he sought to find and claim the One Ring as his own.

Yes, but, will The Hobbit 2 have Elves at Helm's Deep?

Everything needs more elves.

End of the second movie it turns out the Dwarves are really short Elves.
