Yes, I know it isn't going to happen, but if it was up to me, they should start in a completely different era to the end of ROTJ and use the existing material from the Expanded Universe. The EU doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves and since there's so much cool stuff in it, it would be a waste not to use it! I for one actually prefer the EU content over that of the films.

It would be a complete cluster**** of information or lackthereof if they chose to adapt something from the EU, so much of it either requires the inclusion of other material for the purposes of exposition, or it just clashes with other material to the point where it's almost impossible to determine what is canon and what it not.

Ignoring all of the EU altogether and attempting to come up with an original story is their best option.

Someone on Tumblr made this poster and I'll admit, for a moment there it had me somewhat interested in seeing these films.

I especially like that one, but that's probably just because Qui-Gon Jinn is awesome and he used a green lightsaber. Does that make sense? I think it does...

So did Luke Skywalker, which is probably why that lightsaber was green.

thar we go

This one is ****ing awesome. If they actually used this as a poster, I swear anyone who ever doubted seeing the movie would go see it. The message conveyed from this one says so much, compared to the others.

One thing I think will be incredibly difficult for whoever is writing all of these films, will be attempting to come up with any ideas that can be considered original. More and more, as I've attempted to create new and fresh concepts for my prequel re-writes, I keep discovering things in the various Star Wars wiki's that have already been done.

Whether it's villains, planets, technology or even designs in general, it seems like almost everything that can possibly be done within this franchise, has been done.

I've got a few ideas but i dont know if they would be too outlandish for the star wars universe. Theyre concepts that havent been done before from my understanding so far, at least.

Very few ideas are original. There are only so many different kinds of stories. The key is doing them in interesting ways. If you're trying to be completely different just for the sake of being completely different, then I'd argue that's just as bad as being a carbon copy. Just make things interesting.

Not really, we've got to the point in our culture, where a lot of our ideas that are being considered original, are actually just transformed amalgamations of lots of other ideas.

Star Wars, the original trilogy at least, is a perfect example of that. It's just a gritty Flash Gordon, with ideas stolen from everything from Fritz Lang to Kurosawa.

People love things they haven't seen before, hence trying to come up with original ideas.

Someone who never actually occurred to me in terms of future directors for the following two films after Abrams handles this one, is Rian Johnson. You'd know him as the director of Brick and of course Looper. Both where really great films, not without their flaws of course, but they're both great examples of blending genres and still maintaining smart and clever characterization and interesting dialogue. He also directed one or two episodes of Breaking Bad and will be returning to that role in the last few episodes of the show.

I think he'd be a great choice.
